I have a level 49 tauren warrior. I duel weild and currently have no shield. I am good at dps but really want to learn how to tank. I tried to tank once or twice but was told I wasn't good at it. I need to know what to do, how to tank, tricks of the trade. Any and all help is appreciated.

1. Get a Shield.
2. Be in Defensive Stance.
3. Use Revenge, Sunder Armor, Thunder Clap and Shield Slam.
4. Profit.

I tanked dm again last night. Think I'm getting better at tanking. Can't wait tell later instances. Me when I tank. I'll run at a group cast sunder armor right off the bat, then thunder clap after that. Dem shout, then keep thunder clap up. Don't have shield slam yet. Utarius I was gonna ask you. If you had your choice between a tauren warrior or an orc warrior now that the new patch is out. I'm seeing alot more warriors lol. :D

Edit: Forgot to ask this. When tanking. Is a slow sword with more damage better compared to a faster sword with a little higher dps. I figured the harder you hit the more hate you take. Was just curious on that note.

A little fuzzy question, but I'll assume you're asking which one I'd pick. I'd pick an Orc, for arena and DPS. I love my tauren for tanking.. and he can DPS very well, but I'd want an orc.

What you gain threat from now a days at low levels is:
- Revenge.
- TC.
- Sunder.

Sunder doesn't deal any damage. Now, while your white damage is a nice boost to your threat, it's by no means the main threat builder. The things that are require rage, so if you could up your rage generation a little: I'd take that chance.

If you didn't know: Fast weapons = Steady Rage gen (good), Slow weapons = Spiky Rage gen (unreliable, not so good). If, in addition to being faster, the fast weapon has more DPS, I think you should defo use it for tanking. It's a win-win situation!

Also, when tanking later on in the game, many players will have something called a Threat Meter. Get one yourself. It's for viewing who has the most threat, and you as a tank should be on top of it. There's one called Omen which is good.

Here's anoter checklist.
1. Stam is your friend as tank
2. Other stats like def, dodge, SBV or SBR or parry is also invited to the party
3. Try obtaining a second gear with these stats.
4. 5x sunders should be applied at all times.
5. Use Revenge whenever it procs
6. Taunt when you lose aggro (when your targeted mob goes for your friend)
7. Always tank in defensive stance.
8. use your damage migitation abilities (TC and Demo shout)
9. Stay focused
10. Interrupt spellcasters
11. notify other players that you need a few secs to build som threat (a few sunders)

If you lvl with a friend, try to let him DPS while you tank for practise.

I appreciate the advice :D. But as for tanking I think I'm getting better at it. Got my hate abilities set up on macros. Keep spamming TC. First mob I sunder and hopefully revenge is ready. Then I just dem shout and TC, with sunder armor. Havn't lost hate yet. Love taunt. Wouldn't know what a warrior would do without it. Utarius thanks for helping on weapons and such. As far as war's go you are the man. Keep reading your argument with mental and seems you to have diff ideas on how to level and when to start instances. One point I'd like to make is leveling fast isn't always the best. I see so many bad tanks who leveled to 70 in just few days still asking questions about how and when to use there abilities. Most of the time they ask in the instance and not before ><. I've wiped that way before. Not good. Why I'm taking it slow and learning it one step at a time.

I have whats called wondering eyes. I watch the whole screen at once. Like peoples health and who is attacking who. I will keep you updated on my progress. I'll keep the umm losses to myself and the wins on the forum. But all in all I'm loving my warrior. Utarius why an orc over a tauren. Don't you like the extra health boost and thunderstomp. I though taurens were highest in dps for war's. >< At level 60ish I'm switching to prot. Full tank from then on. Gonna tank ramps and ones in OL. Can't wait. Well on to questing and sorry for babbling on about nonsense.

I have a tauren, and I like the HP boost. I'd rather have +expertise with axes, Blood Fury and Stun Resist though.

I'm still learning how to tank myself. Not doing too bad if I say so myself. One thing that you "newbie" tanks might want to get is either the Glyph of Thunder Clap or the Glyph of Sunder Armor. So far I've found them both to help me greatly at the moment.

An increased range for my thunder clap plus the ability to add a sunder to another target. Was thinking about adding Barbaric Insults as well to have my mocking blow also act as a taunt if needed (for lower level tanking at least). Not sure yet though. I don't know if it'd be worth it to get for the higher levels as well.
