Boomkin HealerFollow

#1 Oct 30 2008 at 10:21 AM Rating: Decent
I level'd up feral untill my ding to 70 3 weeks ago. I have been heal spec'd since hitting 70. My guild needs the extra healer and have offered tp help me alot on equiping as such. Now with Wolk coming soon I was thinking of switching back to feral to level but was asked to go restokin/boomkin instead. What would be a nice build that I would still have enough to be an off healer but enough dps to beable to level/quest with. As a side note i wouldnt mind the ability in BG's to be able to fight back alittle instead of being pure heals. Im sitting at 700 spell atm but should be closer to 1k by wolk.

700 spell damage means 700 Heal +. I am pretty sure you can heal ok with a full Balance Spec. Myself (69 Full Balance except points up to OOC) and a Prot Pally (70 not near Kara Specced) solo'd Uveros (70 elite) with him Tanking and me DPS and off healing him. I could deal damage and heal him no problem and we vanquished Uveros with no problems. If there are any off healers in your group I am sure there would not be a problem at all as long as you outline who is responsible for healing whom.

Check out TinyTim's Subject "Questions about Healing as a Boomkin" http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/class.html?wclass=6;mid=1224833612225239672;num=6;page=1

Or

"Have you thought of your new build" by SomeDuud has lots of people's suggestion for various builds.

Check it!

Edit - Summary - If you are only assisting with healz you should spec full Balance and heal when necessary. I have found that I can DPS and heal when needed no problem with this build.

I will move on to Earth and Moon as soon as WotLK goes live.

With changes to spell damage the gear is just about the same so that is less of an issue which greatly helps.

The balance tree has some talents that help with HoT portion, crit and mana cost of your heals. Plus you can justify taking Dreamstate and Intensity for excellent mana regen on your slightly less efficient heals.

You will primarily casting Regrowth and your HoTs to heal. Healing touch would be mainly for use with NS. Not saying it is an extremely efficient build but this should be workable. Not the best at either but decent at both. With a good amount of crit would be better. As Regrowth would crit a lot.

Meh, you could also just go Resto and have DPS gear or the other way around. But if I went restokin I would do something similar to my linked build. Just my opinion, some of the druids around here may have a better idea as they are more familiar with the play style.

I'm pretty sure dual specs won't be in for WotLK ship date, so it will probably be in with the first major content patch. No source, just what I think I remember reading on mmo-champ.

Astarin is correct, the dual-spec is supposed to be coming out with the first content patch in the expansion.

Sometime between the Xpac launch and the third Expac.

In other words, no.

On this subject I am tempted to level as Resto Spec as with the changes to spell damage I still seem to be kicking out a respectable amount of damage with the added bonus I am almost unkillable.
This means I dont have to muck about with my keybinds and UI for instances when the guild want me to heal them or pay for a respec. Is anyone else thinking along these lines or am I going to have real issues further into Wrath when I start getting new gear? Keep in mind that for BC I leveled up as protection pally with a bit of Holy so am used to stuff taking a bit to die.

Are you more PVP or PVE inclined, and if PVE, then do you want to heal heroics or raids?
One does not necessarily need to be a fully specialized healer to heal for raids now a days, at least not if the other healer/s are. As long as you are fast, have good gear, and have a good rotation (get Healbot or something similar). I've healed for Karazhan on as a Balance druid and Shadow priest (the latter before the 30% nerf), and I think ZA.
I dont really have much of an opinion on off-spec healing in heroics, other than one needs 800-1000 HPS to run smoothly, and of course the tank's capabilities should be sufficient. I sometimes end up healing in heroics when the main healer dies, and it's not difficult when it's your average 3-4 pull.
Get the add-on called "Recount", and watch the healing done and the damage taken, next time you are in a group, then judge what is sufficient to keep everyone alive.

I like DPS too much to experiment too far into the Restoration tree, so someone that actually is a hybrid should advise you more.
If you're serious about hybrid healing, then WOW Wiki suggests that you go as far as Dreamstate and Moonkin Form in Balance, then the rest into Restoration.

As of now making the restokin build is a little screwed up with the talents right now. Personally I think you can still do the restokin build but it's much much easier now if you want to heal to be resto. You're still able to do decent damage in solo PVE that it won't affect you much at all.

Or you can go balance and just blow things up.

IMO: Go balance!
