I know that everyone has basically decided that a full exotic BM hunter really isn't in much desire for the WOTLK raids, but does anyone think that Bliz will sometime after the release give exotic pets more of a buff to make them more raid friendly? My other question is that while specing into the full BM for the exotic pet doesn't really work well in WOTLK raids, what about for just pure leveling from 70-80?
Granted many people will say that it's just a personal preference, that yes leaving out that one point in BM and putting it into MM will increase your dps as well as using cat/scorpid thereby allowing you to level a little faster. So have I basically just answered my own question? Is the exotic pet, more of a frill than a help?
OH one other thing, has anyone tamed a spirit beast or a rhino? I haven't had a chance to try out the new patch on my hunter since I've had a bad virus on my computer so I am curious if anyone likes either of those pets. Thanks

We are not in WotLK raids yet. Still raiding BC here. Yes we have WotLK talents but thats it.
Try it out and see for yourself. Until they do buff the sxotic pets damage they WILL BE LOWER THAN a hunter with a point in GftT.
Soon (no clue when) exotics will be getting a 10% bonus to overal damage done. If that happens with WotLK, then i will put a point into exotics and most likely use a devilsaur. Or if i can get and test one a Spirit beast.
If this change happens before WotLK hits us i will still not spec into exotics. I really dont see how they will out dps my cat when they will be constantly focus starved. however testing will be needed.

Yeah, but with the 1 point in Exotics, you open up a whopping FOUR points in your pet's talent tree, don't you?
I don't know.... 1 point of GftT, or 4 Pet Talent Points....
I asked the same question in another thread, wasn't sure about the answer.
It would likely have to be tested (which we can do now) to find out. Personally, at 70, the loss of the other talents you need to bypass to get a 51 BM is just too much, not only GftT. So, I don't see it being something useful at 70. At 80 is another matter.

The only way that the point will be remotely useful for a level 80 hunter is if the exotics do get a buff to damage. Otherwise, the 4 extra talent points are useless, since we can get all of the DPS-oriented talents at level 72, and two points into Rabid by level 80.

I don't think anyone's said full BM is not desirable for WOTLK raiding--I personally will be filling out the points for most of the talents I've already started picking up, and to me that means full BM.
What full BM is NOT desirable for right now is TBC raiding, due to focus starvation. Those extra four points for your pet mean nothing if he can't use his special abilities.
It is possible that a full BM spec might work now, IF the exotic you choose is in the Cunning family and you pick up Owl's Focus--I'm not quite sure, and since I don't feel like leveling an exotic right now, I'm probably not going to find out.
