I have always classed myself as an average hunter, certainly not to the standard of most of you who post on here, but I can hold my own in a raid thanks to reading these forums.
To get to this standard took me two and a half years and a huge amount of "teaching an old dog new tricks"(41 year old computer illiterate who has never played another mmorpg in his life speaking :))

So with the arrival of the new patch I decided not to raid until after WOTLK and just start the long learning curve (again) whilst slowly teaching myself all the new skills pet talents etc.
Then our guild decided to venture into BT and give it a try on nerfed mode.

After some persuasion and a lot of promises that they wouldnt laugh at me and my lowly DPS with my new exotic pet I said I would join them.
Previous to this my DPS on a raid boss (MH/SSC and TK..But not BT as we hadnt done this before)was around 1300 on a good night.
We got going and I was absolutely stunned at the numbers that started coming from my damage meter,"It must be a bug" I thought.

So after muddling through the first 4 bosses and me dying a few times we called it a successful night and went to bed.

This morning someone linked the WWS report on our guildsite and I dont believe what i'm seeing. http://wowwebstats.com/vlsjfq4osptjy?m
Questions...
Has anyone else seen such a massive increase in personal DPS?
Is it because of new buffs from other players?
Is it because of my super dooper exotic Corehound? (doubtfull i know)
Can I do even more? (bearing in mind I am a noob at heart and will never cut out the odd stupid death)
Your thoughts and comments would be appreciated.

P.S. I'm soooo happy lol

I try to answer some of your questions :)

Yes, I have seen a huge increase in DPS since the last patch. The new talents really perform well.

No, it is not because of new buffs from other players. Buff stacking has been changed a lot, but overall buffs don't make you stronger than before the patch. The only thing that changed buff-wise is that most buffs now are raid wide. E.g. if you where stuck in a caster group pre patch you did not have a lot support. Now you can get a lot of buffs (like totems, heroism, ...) raid wide which both simplifies building groups and maximizes raid synergy (which of course makes raiding a lot easier and perhaps a lot more boring than before).

No, it is not because of that exotic Corehound. If you specced to 50/11/0 or 49/12/0 and chose a cat (or a scorpid) as a pet you would do more damage.

Yes, you can do a lot more ;) Spec 50/11/0 and get a cat (or scorpid).
Just to give you an idea have a look at this WWS: clicky. I really like my dps output against Teron Gorefiend ;)

You would see an even bigger DPS increase if you dropped the corehound and went for a 50/11 or 49/12 build for raiding. By all means, if you like the corehound, keep it, but if you really want to destroy the meters, get a cat and Go for the Throat.

And I saw a pretty big increase, too. Back in T5 content, I was topping the meters by a good 2-3% on bossfights. It started to even out a bit once my guild got into T6 content, but since the patch, I have to try to not by #1 or #2.

I don't have a WWSR on this because WWS was messed up at the time my guild took Illidan down, but I have a screenshot of what my hunters were doing:

Edit: Not entirely sure why the third hunter dropped out of the top 10. It may have been a mix of being on parasite duty and he might have died at one point.

Edit again: Mulgrin, I hate you. Since the patch, I've killed Gorefiend twice, and both times, I was the first (and only) person to get marked for death. I haven't been able to gauge my DPS against him /cry

Thanks for the answers guys :)
Damn those are big numbers...could either of you hazard a rough guess as to how much percentage wise my DPS would go up by going 50/11 with a cat.
Thanks
EDIT: lol Midnight yeh I got lucky twice in a row

I really do not have time to look up your armory. However, I would not be suprised if you where to see 2500 for single target and around 1800 for the raid.

I'd guess by at least 10%.
Careful aim gives you and your pet a nice chunk of attack power which adds a lot more damage than higher critical hits with special shot (and your crit rate is not that high, so careful aim is even better for you than it is for me).
A cat will do a lot more damage than your corehound because of two things: 1) More focus to dump on special attacks and 2) rake is a lot bettern than lava breath.
Just to give you an example:
Against Teron your pet did 42 bites in 150 seconds for 20k damage (that is your pets special which is used whenever it has focus).
Against Teron my pet did 43 claws in 69 seconds for 24k damage (claw is my pet's focus dumping special attack).

So while your pet has focus for a bite every 3.6 seconds my pet can claw the enemy every 1.6 seconds (it acutally has more than enough focus but uses some of its global cooldowns for rake and rabid).
Your pet looses a lot of damage just because it does not have enough focus.

according to a lot of reports a 0/54/7 build is also extremely high dps. The highest dps on brut right now is that build (according to the hunter forum thread)

Yes MM spec is currently very strong as well.
I'm not yet convinced that it is better than a BM spec and it is very hard to come down to good results for different reasons:
- All fights are so very short that crit luck can not really average out (hey, I had > 4k dps against teron because of crit luck and I had a meager 2k dps against brutallus because my pet bugged out (had 3.3k dps the week before with bad crit rates).
- Brut is a joke, every guild farming Sunwell for some time might kill him in a bit more than 2 minutes maximum which is so short that running out because of burn can cost you 500-800dps over the whole fight.
- Because Sunwell is so easy now you'll see a lot of people in off-specs and you will see a lot of raids bringing alts or sub-optimal setups. Thus you really cannot compare results for different raids.

Just to give a small example. Before the nerf of Sunwell we had 4 or 5 guilds which where able to kill Brutallus on my server. Currently I think more than 10 have killed him and 5 or 6 guilds killed Kil'Jaeden.

Brutallus is so easy now that it is hard to convince anyone to use flasks / buffood / weapon oils and so on (I have a hard time convincing our DDs to take demonslaying elixirs which are sponsored by our guild bank *g*).

There are currently not many raids which put much effort into clearing Sunwell thus most results won't tell a lot about how good a spec is.

Another small example.

Pre-patch, I logged out in Honor Hold as a Lv61.

I had tried, and had series difficulty, with quests near that Fortress in the southeastern part of HFP, I actually died there a few times trying to do the "burn towers" quest.

Post-patch, I apply all the talents, get everything ready, learn my new skills, and I go there....

.....and proceed to kill everything in my path effortlessly, neither my pet nor I died a single time.

I tested a scorpid after the big patch and was loving how well the scorpid poison was stacking. Has this changed? I wondering how long that will last, with scorpids being a tenacity pet and all.

I finally got to do Gorefiend without being marked for death. It was such a short fight that I was running 3150 DPS the entire time, except for the last 10 seconds... I got a construct on me because someone had forgotten how to kill them (lawl, they hadn't gotten ghosted in over 2 months), and I was getting debuffed. I ended the fight at 3k DPS exactly.
