Wotlk arena..Follow

#1 Oct 29 2008 at 1:34 PM Rating: Decent
Hey,

Been thinking of which char to lvl first in wotlk and so far it will be my paladin. So nows the question: What specc would be the best for PvP and why, holy or ret? (doing 2v2 with a hunter)

Retribution. Healer/dps combos in 2v2 only work if the damage player has a mortal strike effect (warrior) or exceptional control over the enemy (warlock). Or even a combination of the two (rogue, with wound poison and great CC).

Ret/hunter would involve a combination of controlling one enemy while pew pewing the other. Using CC and frost trap to line of sight an enemy healer, or peel one member of the opposing team away while you burn down the other. I think ret/hunter will be an interesting combo.

Edit: Kinda realised hunters actually have Aimed shot. I don't know if they have enough outs to survive and kill well enough while under pressure though.

I think that Ret/Hunter could definitely work 2v2... or at least be very interesting to try.

For CC you have repentance, stun, and trap.

For interrupts and other ways of dealing with healers/casters you have stun, silencing shot, viper sting, concussive shot, and a few other tricks.

If the hunter gets in trouble, they can disengage now or even feign death (you would be surprised how many people fall for that in a fast-paced PvP environment... at least long enough for you to get out of serious trouble).

The Ret has instant FoL, HoF, HoP, Bubble, Holy Light or LoH if absolutely needed.

I think some of the hunter talents I mentioned would require the hunter to be MM spec, which is actually quite good now. Ret/MM Hunter played well in the arena could probably rack up a decent rating.
