Since the nerf to the clefthoof set what is the replacememt for that (previously) phenominal set? S2 gear? Badge gear? D3 set?

The MT in my guild is using a combination of S2 and Arena.

Ditto, PvPurples, baby.

I myself swapped in the S2 chest I already had from/for PvP, ground some honor for the S3 boots, and spent arena points on the S3 pants because they don't require rating. If I didn't suck at arena so bad that a 1550 rating was difficult I woulda gone for the S4 pants of course.

I haven't done too much research into this, and I may be off base with this thought, but with WotLK now imminent I don't think I'd do a battleground grind if I were you, since you clearly don't enjoy it. Battlegrounds are fun for me now that I've got decent PvP gear and understand the strategies, and they are the perfect fit for my typical available playing time, which is brief and unpredictable. Arena? Well 10 losses go fast, lol.

Once WotLK hits it'll be all about leveling, and you'll be able to get away with your current gear until you get the new drops/craftables. So what if heavy clefthoof will get replaced by some green drop you get at 72 whereas the PvPurple equivalent wouldn't see an upgrade until level 75...how much playing/calendar time will that represent? Weigh that delay against the AV grind you clearly dread.

I don't mind the PvP aspect of it as much as I mind the 'grind' part (I have 8k or so Honor) but I would rather get into the raids now and get into the "in crowd" of raiders in my guild now while I have the oppertunity(sp?).

I replaced mine with Tunic of the Dark Hour , Midnight Legguards and Sunrage Treads . But I enjoy running heroics in addition to raiding whenever I can.

You could also just get the AD drops from the necropolis event. They are better than the Clefthoof stuff and fairly easy to get. Shoulders and hands cost 15 runes per. The legs and chest are drops. I got two leg drops in a short time last night so getting them shouldn't be an issue.

If none of these or other suggestions happen just replace with Northrend quest/dungeon gear. Link your armory; you can probably do a bunch of raids now anyway in these nerfy times we live in.

I replaced mine with the PvP blues that you get for honor with factions as I hate the AV grind.
Ran Kara yesterday and got a 2 purples to replace some more. I'm not really going to worry either, as Lich is here in 2 weeks or so.

Very true. I have been off-tanking in BT as I'm working on replacing my Heavy Clefthoof set. I very much doubt I could have done that pre-patch, even with the bonus armor on the Heavy Clefthoof set. I'm leaning toward the PvP route because at the moment it's really some of the best gear around. And, the effort needed to get it really isn't that high in the big picture. The armor values and the high stamina alone make them really worth it. But, they also have the additional stats which boost dps.

Unfortunately, it's not quite that simple since the chest needs AB marks and the boots need EotS marks.

My thinking is that I can grind BGs for a few days and get gear that will last well into the mid-70s. From most accounts, really decent purples won't be replaced right away. So to me, the idea is to be better prepared for leveling, with good gear, rather that waiting for who knows what kind of drops or quest rewards in the early levels of WotLK. It also gives me a short term goal while waiting for WotLK.

My 2 copper.

I'm not sure WHY you would replace the set at all. There is still a pretty good amount of health and dodge in it. Don't forget that defense rating still adds to dodge.

With the nerf to heroics and raids, there's really no reason why a clefthoof equipped druid tank couldn't grind heroics, Kara, even some raids, etc for badges and loot. Badge loot gear is generally better oriented to PvE if that's your goall.

I'll compare the Merciless Gladiator's Dragonhide Tunic to the Heavy Clefthoof Vest

1. Armor. The Tunic has over 200 more armor than the Vest. This is a big jump when in bear form.

2. Stamina. The Tunic has 3 more stamina than the Vest.

3. DPS. The Tunic has Strength that gives dps that the Vest does not. Also, increased crit % from Agility with the Tunic.

4. Dodge (including that from the Def) on the Vest is effectively cancelled out by the Agility on the Tunic.

Out of those reasons, for me, number 1 is the most important. With the nerfs to the Armor on the Clefthoof set and the fact that we no longer need additional defense rating, the Clefthoof set is really just kind of mediocre now. It doesn't take much effort to replace it with PvP alternatives that are a lot better.

You certainly can still use the Clefthoof stuff. I am. It still works fine. But, I'm also looking to keep improving right up until the Xpac is released. Therefore, I'm going after the PvP upgrades.
