I was wondering if this the Glyph of Moonfire would be good for me, or not because of my playing style. I solo a lot.

I currently use moonfire to finish off mobs when they are low and running towards me. If I use this glyph I will get more dps but will loose the burst damage to finish off mobs.

Will this increase the tick damage I have to make it viable and act like burst damage all the time? I do not want to buy it if I am not going to use it. Currently I use the starfire and roots glyph which seem to work ok for me at this time.

I am just looking for others imput. Thx

Glyph of Moonfire isn't usually good for solo. Most of the time the moonfire won't finish out its ticks, or even come close. You're probably better off with something else for soloing.

Glyph of Moonfire (and depending on your point of view, glyph of IS) are more for group and raids. Personally I'm also using Starfire and Roots too.

Right now I do mostly raids and instances. I have Glyph of Moonfire and Starfire. My Moonfire initial crits are only about 300-400 and my ticks are around 600. This is with about 1.1k spell power.

Great for raids and instance, not so much for solo.

I do love having infinite Moonfire as I spam Starfire and slide in Insect Swarm when needed. I can usually get 4-5 Starfires off, refreshing IS when needed before I have to throw another Moonfire in to start over.

I will probably end up using something else once WotLK comes out and I start to level again.

Tried a Balance spec last night for the first time since 3.0.2, we went to Zul'Aman and I picked the Moonfire/Starfire glyphs.

I'm not exactly sure why or what, but it seems that the Starfire glyph RESETS the time on Moonfire, which means I only needed to cast Moonfire once in a fight and as long as a Starfire was coming at any reasonable time later I didn't need to cast it again. This saves alot of mana and time spent on reapplying it.
It's also probably a bug.

So seeing as I rarely reapply Moonfire, the use of it's intial burst is quite low, but the DoT effect is more significant. The Moonfire glyph just spikes this up for quite a net gain.

For soloing, though, it's not recommended as people have stated earlier. The ratio between the intial damage to the DoT damage leans alot more towards the initial, therefore nerfing it is probably a loss. Can do some math on it if you want, but it's VERY fight dependant. Generally, the longer the fight, the better the glyph is.

Hope I helped and have fun on your Druid,
Yuval.

Edit: L2Read before sending a post, minor fixes to grammar and such.

Yeah, next patch is fixing it to "Adds 3 seconds to Moonfire's duration, to a max increase of 9 seconds"

If you cast moonfire and then start spamming starfire, it will look like it resets it every time because Starfire is a faster cast than 3 seconds, but if you wait, or apply IS before spamming Starfire, it only adds 3 secs. At least it has been for me :P

That's what I thought too, but after allowing moonfire to almost expire and have Starfire hit before it expired, it does indeed reset the duration.

for solo play, and i dont know if this changes 60+, i've been using the moonfire and insect swarm glyphs and i use this rotation,

starfire -> roots -> MF -> IS -> pull a 2nd mob and repeat, if first mob doesnt die due to dots usually a quick MF will kill them, even with the reduced MF damage.

its very mana efficient, and even pulling as fast as i can i generally cant run out of mana with innervate on a 6 second cooldown.

From what I've done so far. The best possible utilization of the glyph of moonfire is in raids where you need sustained DPS.

I currently am using SF/MF glyphs and before each boss pull I pop everything possible for more damage. Trinkets/Dest Pots what have you. If you're spec'd 3/3 Imp IS it's even better because you will gain an extra 3% crit for Starfire when MF is up. When you do hit with Starfire it renews the timer, but moonfire will tick for the spell damage you had when you trink/pot'd.

Doing this with just SF spam on bosses has netted me 1800-2100 dps single target and I'm in all kara/badge/za gear, except for the boots off of ROS in BT.
