Last few days I've somethimes noticed my combat text (SCT in my case) saying: 'Resisted (Cower)', wich is odd, since I never use cower. So I started paying attention to it, and I found that Cower would just sometimes be put on auto-cast, wich seemed to be quite random too.

So I ticketed a GM today, who said it was a known issue and they were working on it.

It's kind of annoying since I don't have Cower on my petbar, because there simply isn't any room left for it. I also realized that standard combat text doesn't say when a Cower gets resisted (does it?). So, when soloing, you might want to check your pet spellbook every now and then till it's fixed. ;)

Yeah, it's been known for a while. It goes along with the prowl bug with cats. Basically, everything that can be autocasted, will be autocasted. Also, everything that is on autocast in your spell book will cast, even if it's not on your bar.

I wonder if all the gms that have been contacted by this are banging there heads against the wall screaming....when will the madness end! I hate the bug. You can turn cower off in your spell book but watch it. He'll still use it lol funny

Since the expansion I've been running with a cat. I noticed that prowl and cower will autocast from the spell book. If I go to the spell book and set prowl and cower to not autocast, mounting and then dismounting will set the prowl to autocast while logging out and then back in will turn both cower and prowl to autocast.

Just put the following line in your shot macro and never worry about it again:
/petautocastoff Cower

Alternately keep cower on your pet's button bar along the bottom of your screen. If you have it visible there and turn it off, the game will remember its off. If however you merely turn cower off in the pet skills pop-up window, the next time your pet disappears when you mount up, etc. cower will mysteriously turn on. You'll have to open up that window and turn it off again.

I've found that if I keep Cower in my bar, it NEVER turns itself back on. Even if it did, I'd notice pretty quickly as I look at its icon quite often to make sure it doesn't have the auto-cast sparkling dots.

If you don't have it in your bar, it turns itself on constantly. Sometimes it is after a hearth, sometimes it is upon logging in, I don't know.

I know it is annoying, as pets have a plethora of abilities and a very limited amount of buttons to put them in (WHY can't we put pet abilities in NORMAL action bars!?), but sadly the only way to fix this, is to leave Cower in your pet action bar.

This is what i have been doing from day one and it works for me , same for stealth mode , so far all i have done is make sure those two are in the action bar and it stops any problems.

I totally agree. The prowl and cower is a big pain. I also put both on my bar and that does help alot but I really would love for them to fix it. I dont know maybe I am just to much of a noob but I really don't see the point in either. I love my cat and since the patch he just isn't what he was :OP.

Cower is used in instances; it prevents your pet from pulling aggro, though I can't think of many instances that a pet would pull aggro. The only time I could really think, is when you are trying to DPS an add (such as Curator's sparks, or Mana-Tomb Prince's orbs, etc) that you don't want your pet tanking. It is also useful if you are kiting mobs/objects and you want the said mob going after you (who is running around spamming shots while your pet chases and DPS's it). The pet will use cower, to reduce its threat, to make sure it doesn't get hit.

Prowl is used for mainly PvP; if you are a Night Elf, this combination can be deadly in the right applications. Get a cat, and go sit in some room, say a Tower in AV, or the Flag Base in WSG, or at the flag in a EotS/AB node, use Shadowmeld and Prowl, and wait for some poor sucker to come on by, not expecting an ambush. Two hunters doing this can really ruin someone's day; pick off the pesky healer before he can have time to throw heals on the DPS class with him, for example.

It could also have solo applications, if you are breaking into some cave/area with aggressive mobs, and you see a patrol that you don't really want to fight, shadowmeld and set your pet to prowl, and let the patrol walk on by.

Also, watch your Agressive, Defensive, Passive settings...

I've had mine shift around when I didn't shift them around. I'm not sure if it's a Blizz bug or a UI add-on bug. I'm watching it closely now.

I noticed the same thing when I was using my cat.
I never seldom pull aggro from him using auto or steady shots.
I finally said to heck with it, moved growl (which is always on) from the pet bar and put cower on the bar.
Now I can just turn cower off when it autocasts.
Simple solution to an irritating, but small, issue.
When they fix the bug, I'll put growl back on for easy access while running instances.

i have tried all the above ... whether prowl is in spell book or on pet bar ..it STILL activates constantly! one gm told me ..to simply get another pet, pffft, i LIKE my cat, just hate the fricken bug. i was on mount, then attacked by several mobs which caused me to dismount, up pops my cat in prowl mode, taking a tad too long to assist me with mobs, nearly died, but did not.

i understand, that with all patches, especially big ones, it simply means, tons more patches to fix all the annoying bugs. i also understand that this will be the NORM, for all of us, until they fix all the bugs from the release of Wotlk and thereafter. however, that does NOT mean that any of us LIKE it...in fact, we despise it.

so far, for my hunter and warlock, the problems are ..pet lagging so far behind i lose him constantly, and this damn prowl issue.

PLEASE, blizzard fix these issues asap

Oh yeah ..my pet is a ghost saber

hugz and kisses

My pet problems have been serious since the patch. My cat will randomly charge mobs in instances (not fun!), switch from passive/defensive to aggressive, prowl when I don't want it to (of course), and sometimes he won't stay on target. The worst part is--it's all random! Sometimes he's fine, sometimes he randomly charges & aggros! Also, has anyone else had a problem with auto-targeting? After I kill something (sometimes with nothing else in range), I will automatically target another beast/human/whatever. I accidentally drew aggro this way in Steamvault. Please, Blizzard, fix this stuff quickly!!!!!!!!

I would think you need to run your repair exe ? thing ( mac user so not sure of correct name ) as every reply i have seen on the cower/prowl bug and i also have 3 hunters with cats have fully cured the cower/prowl bug with the icon on the actionbar ? so if it is still not working i would think you game is a little screwed up ?

Yeah, if putting prowl and cower in the pet action bar and turning them off is not working, its probably something more systemic. If on a Mac, run Disk Utility to repair permissions. If on a PC run your hard drive's error check.
