Magisters Terrace TankingFollow

Hi All

Just tanked magisters terrace for the first time, and I have to say it was awful. It wasn't helped by the rogue continuely accidently pulling, and the hunter pulling when everhe felt like it. Took me three fights before i got the change to buff myself with food.

Anyway I noticed I got my **** well and truly kicked, now I'm wondering whether it's my skill levels, my gear or talents(probaly all three). I have tanked almost all the normals before MG without a problem, although I haven't tanked any heroics yet.My talent choice was a bit of a knee jerk reaction to the new patch, I wanted to get playing as soon as possible :).

What do you guys think, here's a link:

Thanks

well for one your still critable i think you need like 475 deff to be uncritable against lvl 70 mobs so that will help alot.

sadly you have alot of dps gear on. personaly i would put it in bank and just go to ah and pick up some "of the champion" to get your deff up some. you gemed your belt for the bonus of +3 agi when you should have tossed = +12 sta or +9 sta in there for the hp. on your chest you have atk power and sta gems i'm not sure if thats for pvp since sorta looks like it but go for deff and sta or even resil just to get you uncritable untill you can pick up a better tanking chest eather in mech or aldor rep. Can't remember if the scryer has one or not. Same with helm and gloves the parry rateing on gloves is ok i guess but make sure you have some deff gems or sta gems not hit and agi one.

all in all get uncritable #1, then stack hp and armor and dodge and all that good stuff. sorry not more helpfull been awhile since i lvled my pally prot or even played him lol been on my druid past 3 months.

The chest piece is because i haven't had better drop yet, and I can't quite afford to buy a nice epic chest piece, couple more days doing dallies and I should be there.

Isn't uncrit for regular mobs 485? And then 490 for raids. Well either way, definitely get that pronto. Then get your health up. You are definitely what I'd consider too low for MgT, not just cause you can be crit, but maybe more importantly because of the massive magical damage in that instance. Follow the gear guide in the sticky up top going through more regular runs and keep improving that gear set to be more tankish. At least hit uncrit before trying MgT again is my recommendation.

EDIT: for I have been corrected :)

475 is uncrittable by 70's, and then 5 more defense for each level above you the mob is. ?? Bosses are counted as 3 levels above you, so you need 490 against them.

You're going to need to get a lot of gear replacements. You'll need to change out all those DPS pieces for tanking stuff. Shoulders, chest, belt, boots, the blue ring, and the sword.. You're far too low in Defense and HP for MgT.

Make sure people listen to you, they constantly will not listen, but just force them to.

All those caster groups, you have to pull with your shield, then run behind a wall, lay down consecrate on the corner so they run through it, then let the casters run to you. Positioning casters is a pain in the butt, all your DPS will be impatient little sh*ts who don't want to wait (they'll intercept or stunlock before the mobs reach you, but tell them not to be noobs and explain 50 times in the dungeon you are LoSing mobs), and let the casters come to you.

Make use of CC till your gears at the level you just dont care anymore, try not to run with total idiots. It's simple really, you shield pull, they CC, you run around the corner let the rest come to you. It really is amazing how many people are just clueless and impatient, but eventually you'll get enough gear to just AoE tank everything provided you have a decent healer.

My biggest peeve as a tank is those people who do not wait until you LoS the mobs. But it's by far the simplest way to tank everything.

Enough MgT runs under your belt, you'll figure out which mobs do the most damage (those mage type mobs with the stacking haste buff are insane, make sure to kill them fast). Use stuns on casters, remember Lay on Hands is a 20 min cooldown now so don't be afraid to use it a few times in a dungeon if it's a long run.

Thanks for all your advice, i will start instancing for gear. I normally use LOS for casting groups (which is, as you guessed, where i had the problems), but couldn't see how to use the surroundings for this i.e couldn't see any convenient alcoves or walls. Anyway, started to change my gear this week :).

Scream at people if need be. But when you use your surroundings, and you will do that a lot, they have to attack following a pattern. Even when after I started AoE tanking everything I'd still get annoyed when people decided to start attacking before mobs would get inside my consecrate.

Buy a couple of new items off the AH and have fun tanking XD. A mage is an obvious bonus always, so bring one as often as possible.
