Question about healing as a boomkinFollow

I am but 4 levels away from a new level 70 and this one is a druid, my new main and soon to be a dedicated healer. I have however a question that i was unable to find answers for in other posts.

In general i always assumed that up to outlands healing as non-healer spec should work out fine and in outland it might get a bit tougher, but it wouldnt require you to be resto/holy to heal the easier instances. I have just done Slave pens (lvl 65) and i am boomkin specced all the way, with +340spelldmg or so and a rather limited mana pool (5-6k or so). Healing was like a walk in the park.

So when will it actually require me to be resto specced to be able to heal? Is it heroics or shattered (normal) or kara. Of course it is gear depended, but for sake of argument assume im mostly in quest gear and some instance loot. Is it because i have played a paladin a long time i know how the instances work or is it because of wotlk talent changes that a boomkin can heal quite well?

Please share your experiences and advice.

from what all i've read and that it's heroics but some people do heal them depending on group make up and gear of healer and group.

Well, since there isn't any longer a difference between +spell DAMAGE and +HEALING, all our gear will have +spell power. Which involves that you can use your boomkin gear for healing without too many problems.

The PRO to resto is that you use your HoTs with reduced mana cost. THAT might be a problem. With 700 spell power I was able to heal the Heroic BF. And as a moonkin. The MAKER wasn't a problem, KEL'IDAN was a bit of problem, since it was tanked, unfortunately, with his face at us most of the time. Which made his shadowbolts hit all of us, and quite often.

At BROGGOK, or what his name is, we wiped once, as the mage died first, so...no CC. But I survived to that.

It was hard, indeed, but doable. Though I don't suggest healing as a moonkin.

Never.

I've leveled 1-60, played 60 endgame, leveled 60-70, played 70 end game, all as Balance and have healed dungeons every step along the way when needed. As long as you level and grab a hold of heal gear options (which is now the same gear as your DPS, or close to it) and buy upgrades from rep vendors and dungeon drops, you'll be fine. As long as you know how to heal well and be aware of potential spke damage, you'll be fine, and won't even need to respec. We might not have as many tricks as our resto brothers and sisters, but we have a pile of mana regen (and some new talents that also help healing, including the HoT/DoT extending talent)

I would say that you could heal most of the time fine as boomkin spec. If you are talking about more serious progression of end game content I would say go resto but otherwise boomkin works. Lazy progression would be fine for boomkin.

We should be having dual specs coming up soon anyway so if you wanted you could do a doomkin and a tree spec.

you do realize the new +spell power nerfed healing in boomkin a lot. before you could heal balanced spec if you had sufficient healing gear, now that all healing gear was nerfed in half this won't be so easy

Aside from the fact that healing spells get more out of Spellpower than DPS spells, my dps gear now has more spellpower than my heal gear, so I'm actually healing better in my dps gear now than my healing gear before. Admittedly my gear has more crit, but meh.
