DW Spec Vs Enrage (Noob Q)Follow

#1 Oct 23 2008 at 1:18 PM Rating: Decent
My warrior is currently 14. And I'm having a hard time deciding what to choose as I level.

I'm going...
5/5 Cruelty
5/5 Unbridled Wrath
1/1 Peircing Howl (its fun in pvp to have :P)
4/5 Commanding Presence

Sound good?

But here is the hard choice, I can either go 5/5 DW Specialization or 5/5 Enrage.

I am mostly leveling if it makes a difference, probably solo 90% of the time.

Ok, to start with, unbridled wrath is, imo, not very good. As far as I know, it's PPM, which means that any real benefit you would get from dual wielding is potentially wasted, so ultimately as a result, it doesn't generate enough rage to make much of a difference. Not that you should be having rage issues as Dual Wield, anyway.

5/5 UW also means that you have no points in Armoured to the Teeth ... change that ... asap ... your first 8 points in any build should always be 3/3 AttT, and 5/5 Cruelty. You can put 2 points into Imp Demp shout then if you want (That'll reduce the AP of most mobs to as low as it can go), or 2/2 booming voice ... 3 minute Battle shout > 2 minute Battle Shout.

The point in Piercing howl is personal choice (as you say, nice to have in PvP encounters, but it's also handy to act as a boost for Heroic Strike, which does more damage against dazed targets) .. I would use the point to max out Commanding presence though (but again, personally, I don't see it being a difference either way).

As for your original question, for soloing, you'll need both Enrage and DW. Where to put 5 points first ... that'd be DW spec ... the increase in off hand damage is constant .. not reliant on a proc, and if you're doing your job right, you may land up by cutting the mob down before Enrage has chance to proc - so in those situations, you'd have wasted 5 points (not really, but it's kind of a good example).

Extra white damage also means extra rage, which will make UW even less worthwhile ... which means being able to heroic strike more, as opposed to simply waiting for white attacks to do the work. Rend and thunderclap are also quite useful early on, so apply them as well, but they need rage.

When you hit 36, and get Whirlwind, you'll have more to spec rage on (fortunately, you'd have maxed DW spec by then). Level 40 introduces Bloodthirst, and then the fun really starts - it's attack power based, so you'll want to concentrate on that as much as possible. After that, your next most important talent points (3 of them) go into precision.

This is simplified to a large degree, I'm just attempting to address your question (and your proposed talent point spending) directly, and offering titbits of advice regarding questions you may have going forward after the level you're talking about.

Good luck, I enjoyed levelling my warrior, it was really a blast.
