The hit cap isn't the hit cap anymore?Follow

Okay, so I got 165 hit rating, and I still haven't gotten the head glyph (working on sha'tar rep), so I was thinking maybe I could regem a little for damage/crit/whatever (after I get a lil bit better gear than I have now, as you can see if you armory me, I've already put a ton of money into gear that mayyybe doesn't deserve it, since I should be upgrading some more of it soon, but humor me on that part, it's my money, and I'm learning stuff. :)).

Anyway, it looks like imba is saying hit cap is at 17% now, instead of around 13%?

I was chatting with someone briefly about it earlier, and he said that 177 is the new 164, w/ AF/EP.

I find it pretty hard to wade through tons of pages at EJ and etc, so I thought I'd ask about it here so that maybe someone could dumb it down a little for me. :) With all the changes, it's hard to get a straight answer about this, and I'm not expecting you guys to predict the future or anything, but could you give some advice about this? I even saw someone say that hit rating is going to "go away" in the expansion, which, well, I dunno what to think about that (then again, I laughed the first time I saw someone talk about a mage tank in Gruul's).

Whatever help you can give to explain this, and/or give advice about what to do right now would be helpful. I should probably stop spending money on my gear for the MOST part, because I'm sort of at a point where I'm going to be replacing a lot of it, since I have more opportunities to raid and do heroics in the next couple of weeks. I logged out in the gear I use for PVE, even though some of it is PVP gear, don't plan to PVP hardcore enough to wear my PVP gear for a little while, but the armory doesn't seem to have updated it; maybe soon.

(I have new neck, off-hand, gloves, and surefooted on my boots)

Thanks in advance for any infoz.

They got rid of the 1% constant chance to miss, like how it has been for melee for a while.

So where it used to be (against bosses that are 3 levels above you by default) you have 16% chance to miss, which you raise through talents (arcane focus or elemental precision) to bring it down to 13% chance, giving you the 164 hit cap.

With the removal of the 1% chance to miss, the cap increases by 12.6 hit rating to ~177 for 14% chance to miss (assuming you have elemental precision) or, like I did not choose to take EP, I need an spriest or moonkin to have their debuffs up (misery or imp fairy fire, respectively). for a +3% chance to hit.

Like Anobix said hit cap was moved. Full hit cap is now %17 or 215 hit. However if you're raiding and you can pretty much guarantee either a shadow priest or a boomkin are gonna be in the raid they give 3% hit so now you only need 14% to cap. If you're planning on putting points into EP/AF you'll need even less. With 3 point in EP/AF you'll only need 11% to cap which is only 139 hit. So the hit number is actually alot lower than it used to be. But because of this it also allows you to keep high hit, and maybe drop 1-2 pts into EP/AF and pick up some more useful talents. There's a chart on the oboards i'll paste it in.

IFF= Imp Faerie Fire M= Misery HP= Heroic Presence(Draenei Racial) AF= Arcane Focus EP= Elemental Precision

IFF/M HP AF/EP Hit Required to Cap

N N 0 215
N Y 0 202
Y N 0 177
Y Y 0 164

N N 1 202
N Y 1 189
Y N 1 164
Y Y 1 152

N N 2 189
N Y 2 177
Y N 2 152
Y Y 2 139

N N 3 177
N Y 3 164
Y N 3 139
Y Y 3 126

Thanks, guys. So I was talking to some more mages about it last nite, and they said that the ~177 hit would be for lvl 80, not 70? (See, I'm really not good at maths)

Also, is anything over 177 a waste? I am sitting at 183 now, after getting my head glyph and a new wand. I switched out a PVP gem (+SP) to replace one of my veiled topaz, but, as I said, I don't want to do too much switching around (aka spending money) right now. My stam is too low, for sure, though, so, maybe I'll try to juggle something. Anyway, I noticed a real difference after I hit/went past the cap, and am eager to get my damage up as well.

The hit cap is going to be much higher at 80 than 177.

Assuming you have elemental precision or some form of +3% hit buff (be it a raid debuff or whatever) then yes, anything over 177 is useless as you don't need 101% chance to hit a mob.

Thanks! :)

I was sitting here trying to assplain this to my fiance who took his degree in maths, to see if he could dumb it down even further for me, and, while explaining it to him, I actually got it (I think). lol.

So I guess it's like, we have a 13% chance to miss (asssuming things), so we get our hit rating up to 13% chance more to hit, which cancels out the miss. Right?

And so THIS would be excellent news for us, 100%

No wonder I was doing so much damage at 183 hit, I was actually hitting everything everytime. :)

Yeah, I know, it's Trill, but I hope my musings about it will help another blonde somewhere. :)

You nailed it.

1% chance to hit (at 70) is 12.6 hit (round to 13).
