Protection Warrior PeeVeePee Huh?Follow

Disclaimer: There's a long story, skip down to the bottom to read the question.

Okay, with the new patch rolling in, I've tried both the arms and the fury specs. Thought Titan's Grip was neat but unsatisfying as a new skill and thought Blade Storm was really cool in how it does so much damage in so little time. So I've just been chilling, doing random stuff, and doing Hallow's Eve achievments when my Ret pally cousin wanted to do arenas for 1800 rating for the weapon. And we both realized that Ret paladins are incredibly overpowered for short term encounters. So I thought, hmm... maybe his burst damage and my bladestorm can actually help us win arena matches. So far we only got as high as 1700. But that night, after my cousin logged off, I thought it was impossible for a ret paladin/warrior team to get 1800 so I asked trade channel what the optimal partner for a ret paladin would be in 2v2. And for some odd reason, almost everyone answered, PROT warriors. Now, I sat there doubtful, thinking to myself "wtf?". I constantly thought that trade chat people were just being stupid and misleading so I talked to the one of the guys who suggested me the idea and decided to see for myself how prot has changed. So I switched to Prot and I instantly fell in love with it. The increased damage, and the survivalability just killed me right there. I found myself completing the "Iron Man" Achievment without any effort in WSG and other things that I couldn't have even dreamed of like 4 vs 1 situations where I actually came out alive. So then I thought to myself, "hmm, this might actually work."
But with very little experience with "prot pvp" I have many questions.

What gear should I wear? s4/3 PvP set? T6 Fury set? T4/5 Tanking set?

What weapon should I use? S2 axe or the Siphon from Supremus?

What shield should I use? Bulwark of the Amani Empire or S2 shield?

What should be my role in a Ret/Prot team?

What are some core talents that make Prot Warriors viable for PvP?

What are prot warriors' strengths and weaknesses?

What classes should I watch out for?

Thank you in advance, and much appreciated :)

Hiya

cofee time...

I want to participate in PvP 's as well and have same questions as y Rezellmine.

Thoughts just for theory crafting-not tested-just to be discused and reviewed

If I wear my shield during PvP 's then ...
Maybe some resilience gear should be preffered?
490 defence rating?? I guess I wont keep it to 490...but much less
Put on ++Attack power??
I ll put gear with +Shield block value(???)... I ll look my shield not as a defensive weapon but as an offensive one!
Glyphs of charge will be used??
Charge most of times -stun-charge-devastates( lots of those???)
We got 2-3 types of anti cc--> Trinket , Berzek rage and Glyph of something..( i dont remember)
My guess(?) is that the opposition group will simply not go for us??? So what exactly do we do in pvp 's ??

Any one tried PvP yet in protection ???

Have to state I've got fairly limited warrior knowledge, so if I get corrected the person to correct me is probably right. Here's my try though.

To be honest, I think it depends. The PvP set would get you more damage but less survivability. A tanking set would give you pretty insane survivability but less damage.

For a ret pallie/warrior combo... do a few skirmishes to see how it plays. I understands why everybody said prot warrior; a ret pallie can't really be nuked down as he has his bubble. Eventually, people will have to go for you. As prot, you have the insane survivability to take that beating, while dishing out enough damage to keep going.

DPS with minor CC. You can provide timely concussion blows.

Armored to the Teeth goes without saying I think. Aditionally... Toughness, Concussion Blow, Gag Order, Warbringer and Shockwave. Possibly imp Disarm or imp Spell Reflection, but don't pin me on those.

Seems obvious, not? Your strength is that you've got the single best survivability in the game and are pretty much unkiteable... Your weakness is your relatively low damage output; you automatically turn basically every fight into an endurance one, and for classes with average to good endurance and high DPS that could kill you.

Mage might still be tough, but I think Warbringer solves quite a lot of your problems with them. Warlocks might give you major problems (You'll only be able to break fear/seduction so many times, and even when you're near SL/SL 'locks take next-to-no damage). Boomkins might be trouble (they have a ******** of survivability ánd deal pretty badass damage), and protadins would probably be your anti-class.

I'm wearing 4/5 S4 and 4/8 T6 tanking set, but I'd imagine that's not an option for you. I'd wear the PvP gear for PvP and mix in some good tanking gear, with an emphasis on Shield Block Value and STR.

Siphon is much better than the S2 Axe. Bulwark is similarly better than the S2 Shield.

In a Ret/Prot team you have offensive dispels as well as quite a few stuns. Use Safeguard on the Retadin liberally; if it's a DPS/Healer team work out stun order between Repentance, Conc Blow, Shockwave and Intimidating Shout to just completely lock out the healer. If it's double-DPS, lock down one of the targets with stuns while you blow the hell out of the other one.

Prot Warriors cannot be locked down pretty much... ever. Intervene cuts your partner's damage intake considerably with Safeguard, you are a pain in the *** to kill with Shield Block and Spell Reflect, and you have a very high degree of control with stuns and silence effects.

In a 1v1, I put Prot Warriors now ahead of nearly everything. Casters get locked down and killed, melee DPS gets disarmed and killed. If there is a main weakness it's to Ret and similar classes that bypass a lot of your armor but aren't casters.

So far, Warbringer + Glyph of Charge + Glyph of Rapid Charge + Intervene makes me a speed demon. It's incredible.

i PVP in my full PVE tanking set, casters cannot touch me due to reflect and shield bash silence...now with warbringer, there is nothing they can do.

melee i laugh at their 50 dmg per hit ooooh scarey.

flag running is amazing, i had the entire horde side on my from their tunnel exit to ours FR and neevr went below 1/2 hp.

prot pvp is very fun.

Shift-Q is Berserker Rage. Shift-X in Defensive and Zerker allows the use of Intervene and Intercept respectively, and Execute is on a mouse button. I move using ESDF.

I haven't settled on a good place for survivability tools yet.

I'm having a hard time deciding. I want to play Prot in PvP, but is it worth it? I am currently specced Bladestorm and I have been arm PvP quite a while, but from what I've seen of prot warrs, it looks helluva fun! I used to play prot PvP, but it sucked. I couldn't kill sh*t! If I do respecc, what would my talents look like.
This is what I've come up with:Prot PvP

Is it viable? I skipped Damage Shield due to lack of SBV items. I have some, but only blues (rings, Time Warden leggins, belt, neck and back). Also, would I want to get Def or Resi? Other stats that is mucho importante?

This is my warrior atm: Thorûr

I'm willing to regem, swap out items, get new enchants, but I won't get my hands on any good epic tankpieces due to lack of playtime.

Any other heads up, reminders or tips are most appreciated!

For now, I think it's completely viable for the smaller arenas. And if you didn't put points into Damage shield, where would you put it instead?

Just a question. Aren't you completely rage-starved half the time as Prot in PvP? The only real rage management talent both specs pick up is Focused Rage. Or am I missing something obvious?
#15 Oct 25 2008 at 10:02 AM Rating: Decent
Actually in duels and 2v2's I find myself with too much rage to spend. Granted, I wear full pvp gear + shield instead of tanking gear. I still take as much damage as any other warrior with a shield. Rage gen is fine I think.
And the 6 second silence from Gag Order is amazing.

That's Macaroon.

1 is Concussion Blow. Shift-1 is Last Stand. 2 is Cleave, 3 is HS, 4 is TC, 5 is my Spell Reflect Macro. All of the buttons are marked, except for some shift-functionality which is hidden.
