Affliction rotation in raidsFollow

#1 Oct 21 2008 at 4:08 AM Rating: Good
Hello,
I've been trying different rotations and frankly nothing is standing out.

My latest was CoE Corruption UA Haunt SL Drain Life. Then refresh whatever goes out first and use Shadow Bolt on Nightfalls, Drain Life at other times.

With the insane amount of raid DPS going on, I'm only doing CoE Corr on most trash before they start dropping.

Still, I only played my lock once in a raid setting and I'm sure by now some of you have better rotations (mine being jumbled up instead of pre-planned).
Any advice from the regular raiders would be appreciated.

Did they change Drain Life with the patch to suddenly make it raid viable? I didn't think so, but maybe they did. I would drop that from your rotation entirely and just use SB. You do have Bane right? Other than that, just make sure Haunt is up, make sure all DoTs, Dark Pact/Life Tap if needed, and SB in between. For bosses anyway. On Trash, Haunt then SB I would presume.

check this post I made

pretty much a full afliction rotation, though it may be a lvl.80 one depending on if you can get the CoA glyph now or not.

I use Drain Life for many reasons, which may all be stupid Smiley: laugh.
- It helps with the nightfall procs
- It does some nice damage when fully dotted (without Immolate)
- It replenishes my life, especially useful on AoE boss encounters and long fights that have me Life Tap a lot.

It was the same before the patch, but there are a couple of extra bonuses after the patch

- It refreshes Corruption (or am I mistaken here?)
- It benefits from haunt as an extra affliction debuff

Jenovaomega, I'm checking your linked post.

Thanks

no offence, but drain life isn't a dps spell. it's dps simply doesn't match up to that of shadowbolt as an afliction lock. now if they made a "glyph of drain life" that removed the heal component (and maybe added some addtional damage), then maybe it'd become an actual dps spell.. for starters it get a 50% reduction to bonus +SP due to the healing part, and it's actual damage simply isn't comparible to SB.

Healers always heal me (when they can) when I'm Life Tapping, so I've never had a problem with HP unless they're running low on mana. Much rather pop a HS then using Drain Life over my rotation.

I like using UA, Corrupt, CoA/D, SL, Haunt, Immolate. I like opening with UA because of the cast time and you don't have to move at the beginning of the fight. Haunt doesn't work at the start because you want it for your Corruption. Put Immolate at the end because it's my least damaging DOT so if I need to I can drop it while moving. Rest is refreshing DoTs when I need to and fitting in SBs when I can.

haunt does work at the start. corruption lasts 18 seconds, haunt cd is 12 seconds (soon to be 8). you HAVE to open with a SB+haunt if you want to maximise your dot damage by getting the haunt and shadow embrace debuffs on the target first.

thanks for the advice about opening with shadowbolt jen. I tried it, and my dps went up by about 50. I am in love with the new affliction, with eradication, heroism and full bane my SB's are down to around 1.8 second casts.

For the strangest reason, corruption has been ending early on me so when I finally get that haunt off (I'll probably be casting a SB or focusing on moving) it's already off so I have to re-apply it. Makes sending a haunt off in time for it tough.

do you have 5/5 everlasting afliction? because anything less will mean it'll come off. also remember haunt has to travel before it lands, so waiting until 16 seconds into corruption will lead to it coming off... cast haunt everytime it's off CD and corruption will stay on constantly.

Yup. What Jeno said. I don't like the Aff spec for raiding though. I want to go back to Destro ASAP - once I can figure out a non-fire useable spec that is...

However, to get from 70-80 - Aff is going to rock. I'm unkillable in TBC - so I'm assuming WotLK is going to be HARD.

what's wrong with fire dest? personnaly I'm finding it does some great damage (haven't tested afliction yet and i'm equaling/beating the better geared locks who're using 0/40/21 currently), I've been lacking behind on trash due to not being sure yet what spells I should be using and I still ***** up my boss rotation in certain situations... so I think once it's fully mastered I'll get to a constant 2.2-2.4k dps on most bosses. maybe 2.6-2.7 on brutalus (or more... got no idea with the changes)

the WWS of my latest raid, I'll see what we're capable of in tonights raid, presuming I get in.

For the last time, Jeno - I'm a warlock, not a mage. Shadow > Fire!!!!!

It ain't all about maths you know.

depends on why you play the game. for me it's all about the maths :P though I'll admit I should be 0/46/15 until lvl.80 for raiding.. but I prefer dest and it can match up in damage on alot of occasions :)

Are you gonna go Aff for levelling to 80?

Seem the only viable route to me.

all routes are viable, but afliction will be the fastest, always has been and always will be. and maybe, depends on if i'm after speed or fun.

Personally, I was pulling ~1k pre 3.0 as affliction, around 1200 as 21/40 destro sac.

My gear doesn't have a lot of crit/haste, so I'm finding affliction has been the best for me at around 1450 dps.

My rotation is SB -> Haunt -> CoA -> UA -> Corr -> Siphon -> SB -> Lifetap -> Haunt

SB until Dots come up basically.

But everyone should be aware that with the change to Amplify Curse, put the 2 points in Imp CoA and use that, it IS more DPS now.

Just did Kara last night as affliction. Here's what I did.

SB > Haunt > Corr > UA > CoA > Siphon Life > SB spam refreshing Haunt and DoTs as needed.

This was with Spellstone and no other buffs. I did as much DPS as I did Destro pre-patch with Oil and Food but no flask up. I also had no aggro issues, though the tank has gotten quite a bit better than the last time I ran with him, so I can't totally attribute that to the switch.

it's not an IS it's a MAYBE. after eradication procs, crit, haste etc.. including a CoD instead and beign able to get an additional 2-3 SBs per minute COULD be better than using CoA... but I haven't be bothered to do the maths yet so who knows.
