warlocks after last patch.Follow

#1 Oct 19 2008 at 3:55 PM Rating: Decent
So do after the last patch how are warlocks looking.. Good? Bad? Neutral?
I have not played since S4 just came out so i was curious if maybe i should switch classes.

I feel sorry for anyone who chooses a class on perceived class ability. You should play a class because you enjoy it, not because it's "better", "bestest", "leet", or "Overpowered".

most think its looking bad atm, but that dosnt meen much for how it will look once they get it all fixed and we hit lvl 80.

Well in my opinion affliction is fairly good, its just more of the same but DOTs do more damage and you have haunt which is a shadowbolt/DOT/Heal thing.

Demo sucks hard, I did a felguard once (so to speak) and found that he was rubbish, I have had a go of demo now and Metamorphosis is.....underwhelming at best.

Destro is ok ish and the chaos bolt looks cool but is not terribly awesome.

I am yet to get excited by what is on the warlocks plate at the moment. (I still like affliction though as I have always liked it :))

I've always been a demo lock and I'm unsure about metamorphosis. I have it. Tried it out. Not too trilled with it.

I've always messed with different builds. Have never liked destro, so haven't tried it yet since the patch. Did give metamorph a shot, wasn't impressed or amused. Affliction is still the best imo, but farming and dailies isn't my idea of fun. Can't wait to get a shot at leveling as an afflock again with some new spells.

Also haven't been feeling the love in PvP. I don't feel like haunt is very viable in PvP and is just slowing me down.

But to Flixa, don't ask us try for yourself. Unless your account is inactive(edit: I see that you said it is)reactivate your account, jump on your lock quick, and beat on some dummies.

Well, just got done doing some PvP. Now, it seems like every melee class has some "kill a lock" button. Arcane mages just mow me down and pallies... well, I won't even go there.

I went back to affliction and it seems good in pvp settings where you aren't on the front lines at all (read, not AB, not WSG, maybe EOTS, definately AV). While a lot of classes got super-powerful new tricks, warlocks didn't seem to see that love (I have a 70 mage and 70 pally and pre/post patch is game changing).

Has anyone tried destruction for PvP (bgs)?

A warlock was my first ever toon first off. My dps pre-patch in the 0-21-40 destro spec was around 1250dps. With the same spec and increased spell power, it has dropped to right around 1000dps. I rock T5 gear and my friend with a mage in mostly blue and some epics can dps right there with me. What is the point of having better gear than him. I have tried Fire destro which isnt bad, and pulled just slightly higher numbers, but have a small dependancy on ur imp being out and vulnerable for his added damage. I have tried demonology, and while it is fun (Felguard) the dps is still lower than destro. I have yet to test out Affliction since patch though. And agreed in pvp we got the shaft big time. Seems like every melee dps got a huge burst, while we destro locks got a big time dmg reduction. I am not the most hardcore pvp'er out there. I have a modest 288 resilience and about 12k HP in bg's. But getting 2 shotted by pallies and warriors (titans grip) kinda sux. I have spoken to many locks on my server and all of them agree, and some of them are switching their mains for raiding until locks get fixed. I myself will still play my lock...but i will finish leveling my level 66 warrior a lil bit faster now.

Honestly, I have noticed my DPS to be slightly lower than normal. However, I don't see the problem, as before I was way over the top. Now the other DPS can keep up with me, and if they surpass me, I can attribute that to they had lucky crits AND mine were unlucky. I can verify this with recount usually. So they got buffed up to where we were, what's the big deal? You won't get invited to raids just because your a lock anymore, but because your reliable, come prepared and on time, and don't **** up. That's the way it should be.

Haven't noticed to many problems after patch, still near top dps in most heroics. Also, Metemorphosis is amazing for pvp, i completely own rogues with it. 16k armor, +20%damage, bad *** fire aura, a stun charge, and 50% reduced stun duration = dead guys. In cramped areas like attacking flag in wsg, immolation aura + hellfire = around 12k damage to most peeps in flag room, really useful in tandem with a healer. Metemorphosis is somewhat useful for running instance, but only if u have a crappy tank, been able to save wipes quite a few times. Not really worth the lesser dps though.

I heard blizzard may make it so u can dual spec and change back and forth in game. This would make demo a great second build. Really nice for grinding and pvp, then switch to the 21/40 demo/destro, or afflic for instances.

When i hit lvl 80 i think i'm going to try 53/18 as a raid build. The idea being to get your imp to crit alot and keep entire raid with the +10% of my spell dam buff, little lower personal dps but lets not be greedy. Still get to ruin and shadowburn so damage shouldn't be terrible.

The shamans wrath totem at level 80 will add somthing like 240 spellpower. As a demo lock you would need more than 2400 spellpower to get any use. If their are no ele shammys, then your buff is good. As of right now, my demonic pact should give out 190 spellpower (10% of 1900) but it does not in a raid environment. when my pet crits, I do not get any increase in spellpower when in a raid with a ele shammy with wrath totem out.

I'm very happy with how Warlocks are doing. Sunwell Warlocks may have seen a drop in DPS, but I know mine skyrocketed by at least 300 as soon as I respecced. Destro is actually fun to play now, it's a very well-done rotation. No more shadow bolt spam.

Compared to the DPS of other classes, we could probably use a little bump (which we're already being given), but overall I think we've definitely seen large improvements across the board. With the exception of Demonology. But who played a demo lock, anyways? ;)

from my experiences so far, a mostly Demo build is actually the highest DPS sepc. You just don't go all the way to Meta. Felguard still rocks though. Granted this is a 70 build, not 80, so it will change in under a week.

I believe warlocks will get what is comming to us come level 80. I heard a rumor that felguard will be doing around 1k dps all by itself. unconfirmed though... As far as demo locks go pre patch, yea, no one in their right mind used them, they just did not perform in a raid environment... as of right now, my dps is great and I dont have to stack haste like destro does.

also take note that blizzard made a point to make ruin attainable by all trees, not just destro. destro heavy locks only get soul link and demonic sac if you dont want chaos bolt, which is a good spell.

At 80 ill have be leaning on imp shadow bolt, bane and ruin and still have meta which IS a good dps boost, its like the priest PI on yourself.

imagine having 2500+ spellpower with imp shadowbolt and and ruin? I see great possilities.
