Haven't been on lately much so all the patch stuff is still pretty new and getting used to it. Could someone summarize what exactly happened with shot rotations? Steady Shot was changed so 1:1 is different now? I've also seen earlier threads mentioning that shot rotation macros are dead , haven't seen explanation why though. What is a good rotation for a BM spec hunter now post patch?

Thanks.

Shot rotations are dead. There's a few threads here on the front page about it already.

Simply put, autoshot is now unlinked from all other shots. They cast when they cast and do not affect GCD, etc.

So now, you only have autoshot and whatever you want to toss downrange.

Many are going for autoshot and spamming steady shot then keeping other specials in reserve.

I am currently using a Steady, Aimed spammable macro that seems to work the best for my toon with her current gear level.

You now have test dummies. Find whatever works for ya. Have fun.

Thanks for the reply. So just to clarify, there is no longer any need to worry about losing DPS due to shots "clipping" autoshots?

no.

And for the rest, BM spec just shoots steady now, M shoots steady while keeping serpent sting up and fiing chimera when it's off cooldown and SV shoots steady's while keeping up serpent sting and shooting 2 explosives when lock n load procs.

@ sloshot

"Shot rotations are dead. There's a few threads here on the front page about it already."

I read all of the threads on the first page of this hunter section and you posted another - very interesting - one:

I'm not dead yet! Macro Madness...

Do you mean that all of those are dead? If not, what have I misunderstood?

Here is what I was using:

#showtooltip Steady Shot
/cast !Auto Shot
/cast Steady Shot
/cast Rapid Fire
/cast [target=pettarget, exists] Kill Command

I have not gone far enough into Marks to use your first macro, with Aimed Shot, so what would you tweak in that?

@ His Excellency Aethien

"And for the rest, BM spec just shoots steady now"

Ok. Nothing else? Ever?

Someone, in one of the threads, spoke of putting out massive dps - indeed topping his/her chart - using Volley.

You cannot, as far as I know, do anything but auto-shot through a volley.

Do you mean that in ordinary circumstances, nothing other than Steady need be spammed?

If so, in which circumstances would you be using the volley / auto combo? Just tighly packed mobs?

Thanks all.

Volley is AoE damage, it doesnt top steady until you have a pack of mobs.

And yes, all BM does now is fire steady shots.
SV keeps up serpent sting and fire's explosive shots when lock 'n load procs
MM starts with serpent, then just fire's steady's and chimera when it's off cooldown to refresh sting and boost dps.

There is a difference between a "shot rotation" and a "shot macro." Generally, a macro will produce a rotation, but the perfect rotation as we once knew it doesn't exist anymore. You just use stuff as they come. shot rotations are dead. Macros are not.

As a BM hunter, I use a macro to /castrandom Steady Shot, Arcane Shot and Multishot for myself, Kill Command and Rabid for my pet, and handweave Serpent Sting. It drains mana like mad, so I only use it when I have a ret pally (which is always for 25-man raids now). When I don't have a mana battery, I just use the old "3:2" macro with the KC/Rabid line.

In a top-DPS situation, a BM hunter should at least keep Serpent Sting up. Even without a mana battery, it returns more DPS even if it sends you into Viper a few seconds sooner. Go test it out on the Testing Dummies. It's a freaking godsend that Blizzard put those into the live servers.
