Leveling build after new patchFollow

I am rolling a priest, currently level 16. Could someone help me with a good build for soloing PVE? I assume I will be going down the shadow tree but would like some input on which talents to pick first.

If good gear is necessary for the build I have money to buy (this is the 4th character I am leveling).

Thanks!

You'll get a lot of opinions on this. Mine is just one.

If it were me, I would do this up to level 40, then bop over to the Discipline tree for Meditation and Inner Focus, then back over to the Shadow tree and fill it in - by then you'll have a pretty good idea of your playstyle and which talents to priortize first.

For gear, I recommend stacking Spirit first, then Stamina and Intellect (roughly equally), until you get to the level where you can start stacking Spell Damage Spell Power. :) After that, Spell Power is king.

I will probably combine healing a few instances with solo/quest leveling. Any talents I should pick up from the Holy tree even if I go shadow mostly? I know this probably isn't the "optimal" solution for either DPS nor healing but I will probably do a mix at least until a more dedicated talent tree is required.

I don't mind keeping some healing gear on the side.

The good news is, you can level as Shadow and still heal instances pretty far up with no points in Holy. In fact, it's even easier with the spell power changes; you really won't need an extra set of gear while leveling.

A Holy/Shadow spec is not usually recommended because the talents don't really work together that well.

All that said, if you're going to do something fancy and different with a hybrid build, I'd consider Improved Renew and Divine Fury the Holy talents to take if you're only going to put ~10 points in that tree. I'd fill in the rest of the first level with Healing Focus to get down to Divine Fury.
