I'm liking this one. Inuuro's Blade. I don't have an enchant yet. I tanked UB Heroic the other night and with a Mage and geared Rogue I kept agro by at least 3k above others. I had two times where I was fighting for agro with the hunter, but he had omen too and after one "um, watch your agro" comment I had no problems. I'm still sitting at 488 def :-( but we only wiped once.... pulled to many of those flying bugs things after the second boss by accident.

*edit for afterthoughts... Also, I'm only running 220sp. I understand that more = more threat and more damage, but honestly... it's not needed. Tanking heroics, HH, or even pve I'm always on top of the Omen Meter. Will I get more? Most likely, but I'm not in a hurry. I'm more intrested in getting my avoidance up to 102.4%. Yeah, I know that they took and moved crushing blows to +4 bosses... but I'm guessing that WotLK is going to have just that, +4. I'm also trying to regear with more stam and strength. Have to say though, mahlerite has something going

Seeing HotR hits for 1k(crits for 2k) in my threat set.
The Blizz hud keeps telling me that HotR is a high threat hit. 3 mobs with some high threat is always good.

One more thing... (now I'm ranting and you can stop reading if you want) I think that as I read over the boards we are losing track of what a Prot Pally is all about. Taking the hits, keeping the agro (and watching T.V.) WE ARE TANKS. Not dps, not mages, not warriors. We bring auras, seals, blessing to the table. With 220sp I'm keeping agro with a t5/t6 fire mage. Why take more? Like to see a thread along the lines of "How can I max out my stam so I can watch more tv while tanking five mobs!" and enough with the "more damage". We have all the tools. WE ARE THE BEST MULTI MOB TANK IN THE GAME. And we have the tools to be one bada@@ MT thanks to 3.0. With very little tweeking, you can keep your sp over 200 and still keep agro (it's all over the forms). Guess my point is, and the answer that needs to be put into words is...
Get a fast HIGH DPS sword, get the gear with Stam then Str. Forget the spell power and get your stam up!!! I mean it. I don't have one enchant, or one piece of gear with +sp. My stam is 734. With Touched by the Light that is 220sp. Because of our new wonderful talent, you don't NEED more sp. Get more stam (and you'll get more sp)! Here's a prot pally with 1095 stam (that's 327sp)His total? 354. Crank up that Shield Block! Stam and Strength boys and girls that's the ticked. I remember the day when Prot Pallys were spit on and laughed at as tanks. Now is our time to show them. Ahh, more rum!

I haven't had a good tanking weapon drop anywhere yet, and didn't really feel like cruising the AH and spending WAY too much (even if there was something there, which wasn't likely)...

Then I did a Heroic BF and dinged Exalted with Honor Hold... which allows you to get http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=29156;source=live

Not SUPERB by any means, but pretty darn good, and very nice weapon speed to boot!

With my current equipment and stamina, my spellpower is 327, so I don't think I will need a spellpower enchant on Honor's Call. I probably will go with Potency (+20 Str).

One other question though. I have http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=23517;source=live as well as the T4 gloves http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=29067;source=live. The T4 gloves give a lot of strength, but have no sockets and give similar defense to the Felsteels. The armor difference is negligible (Justicar 944, Felsteel 943). With the sockets the Felsteels, although lacking any strength at all, give WAY more stamina than the Justicar gloves. What is better? 35 extra strenght and some shield block value or more stamina? I like having a bigger health pool, so I am leaning towards the Felsteel gloves, but I still carry both around since I really am conflicted as to which is better. If I get a second piece of the Justicar set, the answer will be obvious of course.

If you only have 734 Stamina, (and 220 spellpower) with 488 defense, something is wrong. It is pretty easy with the quest rewards and AH items listed in Losie's Sticky to have over 490 defense and over 900 Stam (at least 270 spellpower) just from quest rewards, a few regular (non-heroic) dungeon drops, and stuff you can buy on the AH.

If you were Ret or Holy for a while after you hit 70 and already did some of the quests in Losie's sticky for other rewards, I could see your stam being kinda low, but probably NOT below 800. Do you at least have the cheap +10 stamina armor kits on all of your equipment that is not otherwise enchanted? At most those should cost 10-15g per kit and would increase your stamina by quite a bit I imagine.

I would have to see your armory to analyze why your Stam is so low, but definitely check out Losie's sticky again. 102.4 avoidance may not be totally necessary after 3.0.2, and a spelldamage weapon/enchant isn't needed anymore, but 95% of what is in that sticky should still be gospel for Paladin tanks.

Yeah. This was my first toon, and with 4 kids and a wonderful wife it took everybit of 9 months of free time to hit lvl 70. I did biff quite a few quests and ect.

When I became a reg here, and looked up the Def/Mig sticky* I got all gear listed for Kara runs. Some of it hot, some of it not. I had a def of 490 and was short Libram of Repentance for 102.4% (a little higher I think). Then 3.0 came out and I dropped to 48x def. Got exalted with Shattered Sun and got the new blade and shield.

My best bud's wife just hit 70 with her mage and he has a 70 hunter that we now run Heroics with on Monday nights. Last monday it was (our first) the daily (UB) and now have 5 of 15 badges. We are in our own guild and are lvling a holy priest (lvl 47) on Saturdays (and his free time) to replace the Hunter. At that point the plan is to fill in the blanks for 5 mans and run Heroics (or Kara) on Mondays and Saturdays. Guess what I'm saying is I'm building up badges to start getting some good gear. With that info, I would love any input that you have on gear. I've been doing searches and stuff, but haven't set my mind on anything. My armory link is in my signature.

LOL! No. Back around lvl 2x I saw the armor kits that buffed the armor rating and have never looked at anything of that type. I guarantee I will the next time I log on!! Without looking I know for sure my pants can take one! Thanks for the tip jeromesimina. I've also been working on my Fishing and Cooking for the free food buffs (but mostly because of the Achievements).

*I'm a pretty good tank, with help from my buddie (he's a 3 yr vet at wow) and honestly these fourms, this toon has turned out really good. The FAQ put together by Captian and Crew and the Def/Mig have been a life thread along with all the help from the regulars here. Just had to give props where it was due.

edit, Armory is back up Gear?
My neck isn't on the list, but it's a good piece. Mark of the Ravenguard
Thinking I'm going to trade up my Cloak of Eternity for the Devilshark Cape. But no big rush there.
Need to run Shadow Labs for the trink. But our mage needs some gear so no problem there either. Think I'll make that next.
And as stated before the libram is on the way. 10 more badges.
I changed my sword after the patch for reasons already talked about in this thread, other than that all my gear is off the list (-the trinket but that is it).

@ Simskin

The Dawnforged Defender is a good shield, but the Sunward Crest is still better for a Prot Paladin. I didn't look at your shield enchant, but +18 stam is cheap and a nice one for getting your Stam up.

The HH ring is cool, but should be replaced by a tanking ring, although that isnt a hurry.

If you are Aldor and can get your hands on at least 2 Fel Armaments to turn in for Holy Dust, you can get a defensive glyph for your shoulder (lesser glyph 2 holy dust, greater glyph 8 holy dust) If you have the rep and the holy dust for the greater glyph, your defense will be over 490 just from that. If you are scryer, they probably have something similar. Farm Fel Armaments over by Death's Door in BEM if you are Aldor.. I get 5-10 per hour killing demons over there on a good day, 2-3 per hour on a bad day. Also Marks of Sargeras by the ton.

Other than that, get the cheap +10 stam armor kits for anything else that isnt enchanted and you are looking fine! Should be able to do Kara post-nerf in your current gear with just a little work (and maybe switching out your shield and one ring).

Edit: If you did Heroic Underbog and it was the daily, that should have been 6 badges (one for each of the 4 bosses + 2 for the heroic daily reward). Also, here is my armory link although it won't help you that much YET since i am in mostly Kara/Badge/T4 gear atm. http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Emerald+Dream&n=arthang
