Hey guys,

So, I reactivated my subscription to check out the post-patch goodness. I am a little overwhelmed at what pet I want now! I like the new pet system very much, as well as the new pets. Because of the change to pet modifiers and abilities, Ive even given consideration to pets that once were not very good (spiders for instance). Anyway, I think I would like to have one of each type of pet (tenacity, ferocity, and cunning). I know for a fact I want a rhino hands down to fill the tenacity slot. However, I am a bit up in arms on the others. So what have you guys found to be the best dps pets so far? How about tanking pets? So many choices...

Of course there is no best pet ;)

However I currently use a cat as my dps pet. Scorpids with their poison again scaling so very well are very strong on dps (as they usually should be tank pets). They can compete with cats.

Right now I'm rolling a Gorilladin when I'm grinding and a Devisaur for my DPS'n in instances and BGs. Now If my server would stay up long enough to get more then 1 BG in...

Edit: As soon as I get around to it, I'm gonna get the white cat from Winterspring just to try out cats ands dinos.

I've been leveling a Belf hunter(lvl 44 i think) and alternating between the black panther and a spider that i picked up in the ghostlands when I first hit level 10, I was trying to keep them at the same level. I really dig the new spider abillitys, the web thing is gonna help in PVP.

But at some point when i get back on my 70 hunter I want to pick up a Marshfang bleeder. The poison should be very handy for PVP too, gonna try both when I get some time.

Gorilla's Ive always liked myself. Now, it seems they could make for great solo/tanking pets. I think I may just play a gorilla until I can tame a Rhino. I would get a worm, because ive heard some good things about them, however I really dislike the old worm skins.

I Run the Kurken (Core Hound type). Lava Breath will be one of the Stronger Skills for PVP, expecially with New Pushback mechanic. Of course, for that you have to be BM. With the new Pet family skills I think there are alot of strong choices. I like Core Hounds because because of the length of the Debuff. I know when I play a caster in PVP I get into certain Rhythyms of spells, and 10 seconds at 50% can really mess with someone. Affliction Locks, of couse, get a buy on that one

No.
It's a neat ability, I'll give you that.

But hunters are still a drainclass in pvp.
So we still live for viper sting, wich means we need a scorpid, and an MM spec.

You might be able to make a BM spec work in a dps team, and then a Corehound could be very useful.
However, hunters have never had much trouble with casters anyway, so gettinbg a cat to counter stealth (with rake bleeds) and going with a 50/21/0 build to maximize BW uptime (max about 30% uptime I think) and a pet that does massive damage looks more promising to me.

At the moment my 70 hunter has fallen for a Wasp , no buzz ? ( perhaps that is bugged ) Pun intended . but seriously i do like the 610 armour reducing effect mine has , to me that means i kill mobs a lot easier.

I tried the Kurken and if they stop the screen shake and that thumping walk i might unstable it again.

I intend to try every pet family but so far the Wasp comes out on top for holding my interest.

I really like my gorilla for aoe farming, leather and crap in nagrand. I can round up about 8. let him do his thunderstomp twice and then volley.

Cat is my DPS pet. Will try a scorpid one of these days.

I have also noticed that the ferocity pets threat is HUGE. With points in whatever talent heals them when they hit, they never need heals when farming. The dps of the cat alone is enough to build threat faster than i thought would be possible. All in all a very good pet class..... still.

I have a cat for raiding. I'm never giving up my Wind Serpent- even if he just sits in the stable. I also have a polar bear named Cola sitting in my stable. I'll probably use him for leveling. I'm just not sold on Gorillas yet. I understand that thunderstomp is the ZOMGWIN skill right now... But they're just too ugly, and they pick their butts. Do they still do that after they're tamed?

I used to use a bat when it still had Screech for the AOE aggro, but i switched it out for a spider, i like to pvp so the web will be a great help there. I plan in using a gorrilla when i start leveling at about lvl 51. I enjoy my pets being able to hold multible mobs too much.

I'm still using the same Ravager that I tamed way back on Azuremyst when I was level 10.

52 levels later, in HFP, I'm still using that same Ravager.

I love some of their abilities too, I don't know if all pets have them, but jeez.... Carrion Feeder rocks, I don't have to buy food or keep a bunch of meat drops, I can just tell him to eat corpses every now and then. A Full Happiness refill every 21 seconds? Heck yeah! not to mention, it currently heals about 1k of his HP per tick, for 3 ticks.

Wolverine Bite kicks butt too. Ever seen a huge tall felguard get knocked on his *** by a ravager that doesn't even come up to his armored kneecaps? *snickers* That is quite comical.

Not to mention, Ravagers do so much freaking damage....

Only ravagers have that, but all ferocity pets have Bloodthirsty when talented (wich.. euhm.. everyone will pick)

Nope, Carrion Feeder is not ravager unique, it's a 3rd tier cunning ability.

All trees have a happiness increasing talent.

I'm currently using my faithful cat as my pet, seeing as I only specced 50 points into BM. I'm just not that interested in the exotic pets, but once i hit level 80, I might consider speccing it for fun.

I'm using a wolf. The attack/ranged attack buff from old, used to expire on one specialized shot, but now lasts for a full 10 sec. In which time, it seems the wolf is recasting. This affects you and your whole party, which is really nice, and the effect scales up with your lvl. I think at lvl 32 I'm at +60 attack power? With this kind of buff for 10 sec, it's enough to annihilate any mob, and set you up for easy, quick kills. Plus I just like the look of the black worgs.

On my 66 hunter (leveling Marks), I'm sporting a wolf pet. Seems to complement my build pretty well (Furious Howl stacks with TSA), and stuff gets blow'd up. I rocked over 1k dps on bosses in Mana Tombs last night, peaking at 1128 on the boss at the end of the escort.

Plus, orcs and wolves go together like peanut butter and bananas.
Don't we make a cute couple?

I have a cat, but he's special.

His name is Boomer and he's a Ghost Saber.

Check out the wowhead page: HERE

Check out the wowhad screenshots, from that link also. The ones from theASCHE360 and itsnotbarry really show the cool side of that cat.

That's how most cats look on prowl and it's not on prowl. Put him on prowl and it goes from that to damn near invisible.

Put it next to some patterned stone in a battleground. Make sure he's aggressive and stand on a slowing trap.

That rogue reckons you're distracted. Watch kitty eat his @***!

With the advent of the patch, I took my 66 Hunter full BM, and headed to Blades Edge for a try at a Chimera.

So far, seems to be a decent pet; he has a Frostbreath special which appears to be a nice aggro opener, in fact, I've never lost aggro with him, as compared to the Ravager, on whom I would lose aggro on occasion.

Good DPS as well.

So far I'm still rolling with my Owl. I'm kind of attached to her considering what it took to get her as a lowb Horde hunter. The disarm ability seems interesting, but it's going to take getting used to for me to see the PvP benefit. My pet is rarely close enough to me to make disarming an attacker valuable.
