Combat techniques? (for PvE)Follow

I've been playing for just over a month now and have a 37 Warrior. After redoing my talents after the patch, they look like this:

http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=LhrhzZhvx

Pre-patch I had Piercing Howl, and my sequence (always Battle Stance, always dual-wielded swords) was:

Demoralizing Shout, Piercing Howl, Heroic Strike, Hamstring*, occasional Slam (didn't see much benefit), HS, PH refresh, HS, repeat until dead.

* - Use this only if fighting a mob that tends to run.

I was always starved for rage. Now that I know a little more about the mechanics, I re-did my talents as above, and while I tried Slam, I still don't see much benefit from it. Instead I'm using the following, mostly on level 31-38 mobs:

Charge, Demoralizing Shout, Sunder Armor, Heroic Strike, SA, HS, SA, HS, Rend, HS, Execute

Before the Execute there may be one or two additional HS's (where I *might* mix in a slam, but usually not). I figure by the time that third SA goes in, they are essentially wearing no armour. I can Execute in the 500-800 damage range about 75% of the time.

This appears to be an effective sequence, but as I say, I'm a relative noob. Most of the stuff I've read on Warriors has been targeted at the level 70 guys, with the exception of some levelling guides. I would love some feedback on battle techniques, moreso in the vein of attack sequence as I've outlined above.

Thanks!

Wow, not one response in 3 days. Surely someone has to remember how they got to 70?

Honestly, swing sequence and such don't matter too much while leveling. You just need to always be using your most damaging attacks over and over. I do think you're on the right track with the shouts though. Debuff the mob as muhc as you can than just lay into it.

To be fair, you can't use the build that I was using at that level because Blizzard has changed the Arms/Fury trees around quite a lot.

I'm assuming that this is your character. If so, the first thing you need to do is get up-to-date weapons. Cruel Barb is great at its level, but you could find greens that do more damage at your level. DPS is ~the most important stat (see the stickies for more detailed info) -- don't keep an outdated blue when you could replace it with a better green.

Personally, I've always been a big fan of a 2H/Axe build at your level. I'd try to get my hands on a Whirlwind Axe, and replace it with Bonebiter once you can run through Scarlet Monastery. Ravager is also a nice toy if you can get Herod to drop it though.

If you want to stay with a dual-wield build, Vanquisher's Sword, Sword of Serenity, Glutton's Cleaver, various other blues, and even a lot of greens would be an improvement. Without some pretty good enchants though, I'm pretty sure that you're better off going with a 2H build for a while yet and just picking up a 1H for if you want to tank something.

Attack sequence is going to depend a lot on whether you go with a 2H or with 1H weapons.

Slam mostly benefits you when using a big 2H weapon (you get more damage compared with a faster weapon of the same DPS), and especially if you can pick up Improved Slam (now a fairly deep Arms talent). I'd personally suggest this build as a sample 2H Arms (Axe) build for leveling (note: you can take off 5 points to get to a level 37 build, and I'd personally max improved slam before Mortal Strike). You could also choose to max Cruelty (and I'm sure many would), but that keeps you away from Improved Slam / Mortal Strike for a long time.

Attack sequence would vary based on level and # of mobs.

At level 37 (one mob):
Charge** >> Rend (x1) >> Overpower (whenever up) >> Heroic Strike (if over 50 rage)

At level 41 (with Improved Slam for 0.5s cast time)
Charge >> Rend (x1) >> Overpower (whenever up) >> Slam >> White hit >> Slam >> White hit >> if you've got a ton of rage or a healer, Mortal Strike

For a pack of 2-4 mobs:
Charge >> Berserker Stance >> Berserker Rage >> Sweeping Strikes >> Whirlwind / Cleave (you can do both ~at once)>> Slam

I never really spent the rage on Demo Shout or Thunderclap unless I was grinding as Prot. I also don't usually Execute unless it's a tricky pull, mainly because I like to have the rage to play with at the beginning of the next pull, and things drop really fast if you can get rolling with a 2H build.

Probably more than you needed, and I'm sure it's not 100% the most efficient strategy, but it'll speed you up a whole lot, IMO.

** Charge is great for building rage, but if you've got a bunch of enemies around, pull with ranged.
