What does your interface look like?Follow

There are three reasons for me creating this thread:

A) I want to show off the kick *** interface I build yesterday; I specced 51 points in holy and ended up with more abilities than bar slots so figured it was finally time to download an interface mod.

B) I'm actually curious as to what your interfaces look like. I might learn something from them.

C) My server is down -.-

As for me, yesterday kind of bore the best idea I've had in years, interface-wise. Take a look at this baby:

http://img253.imageshack.us/my.php?image=newuibellunv9.jpg

I've stuffed all my mounts, HS, etc in the right hand of the screen. I'm used to that and have always liked it. My 'main' set of bars is the one in the lower middle part of the screen, it holds all my heals, shields, etc. The bar next to that is filled with stuff I need with me at all times, CC, and abilities like Mind Soothe/Levitate.

My hotkeys are bound in really logical ways. Holding control equals 'buffing mode'. Nearly all my hotkeys cast some kind of buff when control is pushed. No modifiers means I cast a normal heal, and holding shift gives me 'special versions of the same heal' (Aka; insert = gheal, shift+insert = Binding Heal).

Anybody noticed what's missing yet? Exactly, DPS spells. This is why I find my new UI so brilliant. I've actually macro'd all my heals to heal or DPS depending on what target I've got selected. It sounds a bit more difficult than it eventually is. Let me give an example

If I push insert with no target selected, I cancelcast gheal on myself.
If I push insert with a friendly target selected, I cancelcast gheal on the target.
If I push insert with a hostile target selected, I cancelcast smite on it.

I've effectively created 1 button to do smite-dps or heal a MT! Pretty much all my other spells work the same. Holy Nova AOE's or casts Devouring Plague depending on target. Flash heal casts Holy Fire when an enemy is selected. And best of all, it feels extremely natural. I used to often find myself casting the wrong spells due to pushing the wrong hotkeys or something as stupid as that. That doesn't really happen anymore due to the simple fact that my macros check 'what I'm trying to cast' by looking at the target and automatically dish out the right spell.

So what about you? What does your interface look like, and - what kind of 'clarity moments' have you experienced in it?

I've never used Alla's image thing before. Are they public? Will it work if I link to it? Let's find out:

My Interface

That's me solo, but I use Pitbull, so if I'm in a raid or party the frames go in the upper left, Omen next to the minimap. I don't usually show target's targets and stuff like that because the screen gets too crowded.

Your way sounds very cool, but I think I'd get all befuddled. I don't select targets to heal, and I usually have a hostile target selected (for SW:P, maybe shackle, maybe just to see his % life if it's a boss) while I'm healing.

Basically my buttons are a big-*** cheat sheet; I don't click most of them (except maybe Cooking or something like that), but I like to be able to see the key bindings. :)

I think my biggest UI moment was getting a good unit frame mod. Doing everything that raid frames and a healing mod used to do in one spot really frees up some real estate.

Screenie seems working to me.

That's the funny thing though; if I wanted I could turn them all into mouse-over macros with the same effect. The only downside is not having the hotkeys/icons of my damage spells shown anywhere; I've got to remember where what goes. That's not too big a deal, though.

A unit frame mod might be my next step. I usually just use the normal Blizz interface in raids, but a mod would make stuff a little easier.

I can't be ***** to find a recent screenshot and upload it, but this Ye Olde one ought to be enough: Clicky

I use Caith's UI, modified to suit my needs. In the umptheen levels since that screenie was taken, I've heavily modified the hidden stuff like Omen and Recount, DoTimer and so on. With Shadowform now being a shapeshift/stance shift, I've been able to further clean the UI by putting all the Healing stuff on the same bar as all the Shadow spells, freeing up quite a bit of barspace.

I don't bother keeping stuff I don't use often on a bar. Mind Soothe? Meh. I've also changed quite a bit of the keybinding since that Screenie was taken, and also added several mouseover/stopcasting macros. I've also moved some of the racial stuff and consumables a bit.

It still looks quite similar, but it's even more efficient than that screenie shows.

Yours is a bit too sci-fi for my liking North, but it looks nevertheless effective. I used to ignore stuff like Mind Soothe, but then I figured that whén you needed it you'd constantly need it. I remember the days back at 60 where I had to sneak into Dire Maul to meet my group without aggro'ing all the Ogres. That's a situation where you want Mind Soothe at hand.

I liked yours by the way, Teacake. It's nice and clean. That's the only thing that bugs me about my own; the stupid chat window ensures I'm left with some kind of 'open spot' in the lower right corner of the screen.

This is an updated version of my ui. It has a couple of action bars immediately above the two that are visible which only show themselves when I mouseover. Other than that I mainly designed this to be a mixed mode ui suitable for both healing and dps roles.

Very basic but shows me everything I need to know.

ToT pops up to the right of the target pane and is about half as thick in height. Focus is to the left of the player pane at the same size as ToT

The patch screwed up the ArkiveUI compilation I'm using, so I'm using the default UI for the first time in... four years.

Not an armory link. My recommendation would be not to click it.

Well... I'm unsure what would be best for you too, since I'm not sure what you're looking for an add-on to do. Smiley: wink Since you mention specifically being holy, maybe you'd like something to make healing a bit easier? Personally, I'd say Healbot is the easiest add-on for beginners to set up and use.
