3.02 Leveling Specs sub lvl 40?Follow

#1 Oct 16 2008 at 10:24 AM Rating: Decent
I recently rolled a mage trying to hit 70 before LK, I'm only lvl 35 now, I leveled fire this far but am interested in frost, problem is I have no idea which talents to choose for either spec now with the patch changes. The guide here is now outdated, and while I know most people say just pick the spec you like and stick your points in it, I see that as a bit of a waste...

I'm requesting, that a knowledgable mage would post maybe two talent sheets for frost and fire to help us noobs out. One sheet to show the talents to choose for level 25, one for 35, (or 20, 30, etc, whatever you can do) for frost and fire to give us a little guidance here at the beginning. Thanks!

I'm not sure what you want exists yet. People are still experimenting with the new trees, and the min-maxers are busily crunching numbers. Another issue is that most of the knowledgeable folks are looking at potential specs for level 70 and beyond. I suspect it will be a good little while before somebody gets around to looking at leveling specs geared for low-mid levels.

I'm very pleased with the Arcane tree, but my mage is 70. I have no real way to know how an arcane spec (or fire/frost) would work at lower levels. Not trying to dump on your thread, just saying I don't think that information is going to be readily available anytime soon.

I prefer to level as frost.

Around level 40:

Level 50:

Level 60:

And I think you can continue from there.

Awesome, TY Anobix, exactly what I was looking for. If a fire guy would post the same would complete the idea...

I agree with you Kah, just being new (I've seens people asking for this on several boards with no responses) it's unclear how the talents will effect us where as those that have played/leveled already havn't had the chance to play the specs at lower levels, at least they know how they "should" work which is alot better than me just guessing, lol.

Thank you for that leveling build setup Anobix. Would you mind giving a possible rotation for a soloer? I got my mage to 45 fire, but now that her gear (almost all of which was fiery) will be spell power, I would like to try frost leveling.

Yeah, I'm in need of some help as to how to successfully level solo as frost. I was doing pretty OK with fire, but I wanted to try something new. I'm having difficulties figuring out exactly how to kill quickly and efficiently right now. :P

Anobix - Just out of curiosity - why don't you get Winter's Chill?

edit - I apologize in advance if this was previously discussed.

normally don't get enough stacks to make it worthwhile on an enemy unless it is a boss (or in pvp for dispel protection).

I'm only lvl 66 on my mage but I think I have a keen grasp on how to kill things as frost. If you have frostbite, then things will work out a little better, and with the new talents you are able to get it right off the bat!

I normally just do Frostbolt and hope for frostbite so I can get off a shatter combo. When the mob has Frostbite I toss a Frostbolt his way while spamming Fireblast to get a "shatter combo". Just wait til lvl 66 when you get icelance and it becomes waaayy too easy.

If you can't kill the mob before it gets you just Frost Nova and run to a safe distance and continue to Frostbolt.

As for Winters Chill, I agree with Anobix, it just isn't effective at lower lvl's or for solo play unless it's an elite ur kiting, or you're in PvE. Haven't dealt too much with the PvP aspect of using it as dispell protection.
