Tanking vastly improved. Perhaps too much.Follow

So I just got done tanking a Kara badge run for my guild. Me main tanking with another paladin for OT. I didn't need him at all. In fact, unless I let him pull the mob off me, or he taunted and moved away fast, I ended up with everything every pull.

Bosses went down faster than I had ever done them. Sure, the 30% HP nerf to all raid mobs made most of that, but I could tell everyone's DPS had gone up. Especially mine.

This guy, right here, had first place DPS through the entire raid, except on bosses. I did take first on Illhoof, because we lacked any other AoE. I had 5% more of the total damage than the next guy. 800 DPS at the end. Some fights got me as high as 1500 DPS. And since most of that was holy with a +90% threat buff, I had TPS's that sat up at over 2400 at times. And not just Curator, I held 2400+ TPS for the entire time Illhoof was at less than 35%.

BoSanct is truly awesome. I simply could not run out of mana in combat without a drain mana spell on me. This was with me in a constant battle with the GCD. Against an undead or demon at below 35%, there is ALWAYS a threat-producing move off CD. I even had the +2 seconds consecrate glyph. I was always mashing something. And still never running out of mana.

A few people had not known to download the new Omen, and just decided to test the in-game threat meter. It took someone pulling a mob I didn't even see was in range for anyone to get a threat warning from it. Threat production was that huge.

I did find a few problem, though. Hammer of Justice does NOT currently interrupt casting on mobs immune to stuns. The Exorcism glyph made up for that, but it's still annoying that I took 3/3 Imp HoJ for something that didn't work. Also, Chess bugged. Half the raid didn't get their piece bar, and then when a piece died, the controller kept the buff for controlling a piece and couldn't more until they dispelled it. Chess ended with three pieces.. me as the king and someone as a healer, vs. Medhiv as his king.

I did the first 4 bosses in Kara last night. Maiden used to be difficult for me and my guildies. This is no longer the case. She was dead in less than 1 minute.

Don't be TOO hasty saying that tanking has improved too much, you aren't 80 yet, but you have the level 80 talents available in your tree.

The raid bosses AND THE TRASH for all TBC raids have 30% less mana, 30% less HP, and 30% less damage output than they had before, and Prot Pallies generate a TON more threat and deal more damage due to the new itemization and talents.

We had about 2000ms (2 seconds) of lag on my server while my group was in there and we still downed 4 bosses in 78 minutes, even with the lag. Romulo and Julianne went down within 0.5 seconds of each other, so getting them down within 10 seconds of each other was certainly not an issue.

You have to remember that with our new talents and the raid nerfs, the TBC raids are not meant to be difficult any more, but you can bet that the dungeons and raids in WOTLK WILL be challenging!

Enjoy being totally OP while you can enjoy it, and get some raids in before WOTLK that you thought you might never get to. I thought my guild would NEVER see SSC by November 13th since we were just BARELY finishing Kara and it took forever. Now I see us clearing Kara and ZA weekly and hopefully doing Gruul's, Mags, and SSC before the xpac comes out.

Enjoy!

Of course, I knew it would be a lot easier. My biggest thing was that I, the prot pally MT, did top DPS by 5% total damage more than #2, which came to about 23% more damage than he did.

I'm used to 6th or 7th. Not 1st. Even if the fights were easier, I never would have imagined doing as much damage or threat as I did.

I need to get my guild to try T5 stuff..

Also, I love the new Lay on Hands. 20 minute cooldown for a free full heal? Awesome. 32k LoH crit? Totally unnecessary. The druid I threw it at had only 25k max. :D

Yes, I need to get my guild into Gruul's, Mag's, and hopefully at LEAST SSC within the next 4 weeks too! I know EXACTLY what you mean.

Also, remember this was Kara... if you were doing your normal rotation as well as popping exorcism and holy wrath every time they were off of cooldown, you were doing ridiculous damage. I didn't do recount on my partial Kara run last night, but I would not be surprised if I was #1 or #2 on damage recount.

That and the rest of your dps was subpar to say the least. Take a ret or 2 with you next time so you clear faster:)

Next wednesday I'm going again. I'm going to do what I can to convince the other pally to go ret, and then I'm going to put the whole thing on WWS.

Cleared Kara yesterday in 45 minutes. 3 pallies at the top of the dps charts (Ret, ret, prot) and that is after DS and SoC nerfs. On nightbane we 2 ret pallies did over 2k dps in T4 gear. Even going full out we couldnt pull aggro off of our tanks who would hit the mobs once before my 4.5k SoB crits and still keep aggro.

As I understand, 30k hp isn't unusual for lvl80 tanks... And still onlt naxx is on the beta, so that number probably will rise.

I've been prot for months, recently went ret to try out the new spec. I'll probably go prot again for a week or 2 just to get the feel for it as i want to tank again at 80.

Soloing Kara has always been fun :) I never bring an off tank. I am excited to check out the new changes though, goign to be interesting to see how the stats on my gear has changed,

You think Kara was bad?

We went into TK last night for lolz and cleared the place up to Kael in about half an hour by just continuing to chain pull the entire instance. We AoEd the entire place down and the tanks NEVER lost threat. Most of us are in PvP and T4 equivalent gear. We killed Solarion so fast she didnt even have a chance to spawn adds.

We ran with 3 tank, 5 healers and 17 dps and the place was cake. Unfortunately it seems the Kael fight is bugged at the moment as at the beginning of phase 3 the whole fight lagged out completely. This happened at exactly the same spot in the fight 3 times in a row so we just called it.

Black Temple is the new Kara.

I got into a pug for Gruul's/ Mags yesterday. I'd say we finished the entire thing in a little under 30 minutes.

After Kara, we went to TK for ***** and giggles. 17 of us 1-shottted VR and would have done A'lar if it was like 1am... as it was we wiped on stage 2 thanks to melee DPSing an add down and wiping out half the raid. I feel that we would have had little trouble with Solarian either. 30% is a BIG nerf it seems.
