Love my Ravager; is Beast Mastery worth it?Follow

I've tried training a Devilsaur and Silithid, but so far I prefer my good ol' Ravager.

The Devilsaur seems nice, but it's so mainstream. With Monstrous Bite and Rabid running, he does some serious damage, though. The Silithid's web would probably be ace in Arenas since it's ranged, but I like my Ravager's stun attack.

The question is, since none of the exotic pets interest me, should I dump Beast Mastery and spend the point elsewhere? Or are the extra four Pet Skill Points worth it?

depends on what you want to do. I went 50 into BM and use my ravager for BG's and duels, but for raids I've been using a cat and according to recount its around the same dps as a devilsaur

You can get all the dps buffs without the BM talent. Seeing as it's essentially a choice between readiness and that I suspect that with the current state of exotic pets people will go that route. We'll have to see though. If enough of the end talents are good enough in BM then there won't be enough points for readiness anyway, at which point you'll just go for the BM talent as it's only one point.

something like this

In a optimized raid build you probably wouldn't have aimed shot. This is of course if readiness actually increases dps more then say longevity and one more in cobra, or even going into the SV tree for the 5% tracking dps and the steady crit boost. I think cheeky does have a new version of the spreadsheet out, go check it out.

They've stated that they are going to increase exotic DPS to 10% above a normal pets soon. That plus the 4 extra pet points sounds worthwhile.

If that's the case, I hope that they give us a few that aren't ***-ugly.

I just tried my old windserpent out to test the DPS against my cat. My level 70 WS does about 100 less DPS than my level 68 cat. I imagine that results would be similar with a Ravager.

Personally, I'm not even touching Beast Mastery right now. I would much rather have the point into GFtT.

Current top 2 dps pets according to EJ (at least, last i read of it :P)
1: scorpid (yeah, poison is OP again)
2: cat.

so I'd personally go with a scorpid atm, and no beast mastery.

50/11/0 is probably the best build right now.
(shifting points between mortal shots and careful aim and invigoration and longevity depending on gear and mana issues)

edit: and neither a scorpid nor a cat needs beast mastery...

Given the way blizzard was talking about pets, I'd be very surprised if scorpids aren't nerfed.

go BM.

Try if u want DPS i know for a fact lvl 70 core hounds are vicious. But as for ur stun. Put 3 points into longevity and use intimidation more. You really won't have to worry about stuns if ur BM because the chances of a mob getting to you and avoiding ur pet are slim. In pvp it's helpful but it's a 1 min cooldown u'd b just as fine with intimidation and an extra pet skill. Those 4 points can be difference bewteen your pet being the main tank for group quests,

Before my gear and pet was not good enough to solo the elk queen in nagrand. My pet would always die and i would just barely beat her or die @ lvl 70. Now with those extra couple points and reworking of BM, not only do i never pull aggro when i fight her but my pet survives the whole fight and ends with like 5k~6k hp/ 8k. And all i use is ferocity and cunning. So a tenacity can most likely main tank HFC ramps at 70.

I've always had to do 1 pull at a time when i run ppl through scholo. Last night i was able to do just about an entire room and have plently of HP/Mana to spare, i was amazed with my core hound. I've been ran through there are other accounts with groups of 3 lvl 70 warlocks and i've watched them die and wipe before. So worth it? I think so

I agree... I love my lev 70 Core Hound. 51/10/0 is my current spec and though I dont do the same burst damage as the previous 41/20/0 spec I think the DPS overall is higher than before. AND my gear sucks *** bigtime right now... so once I get a little better geared I should be nearly topping the DPS meter consistently.
