Well, by now we are all experiencing our first taste of the LK changes, at least for those of us not lucky enough to be in the Beta or PTR. It took friggen forever to get the patch and all my add-ons up and running.

I'm trying out an 'off the cuff' TLAR build. It's pretty wild. Morris is liking the changes, he's boasting he's a freaking chainsaw now. I, am kinda wierded out though.

The Good:

Pet is noticeably faster. I mean he chews through focus and targets now. Lots of crits on the pet side. Pet appears to hold aggro better too.

The Bad:

It appears my dps has dropped nearly in half. That's manual weaving or old macro, they appear to draw about the same dps. Went from 800+ to 450-550. Now, that's tests against the dummies but I'm calling them about the same as a Dr. Boom test. My crit score has taken a nosedive and while some things are lower in the trees, it's actually more points to get to BW which forces lower points in MM.

The Ugly:

Pet animations are hosed. They say they are working on it, Morris looks like a spastic idiot if he gets off to the side of a target.

The Odd:

Even though my dps has dropped, against live targets I seem to be dropping them faster. Targets that used to always make it to me are dropping long before they even get to me. Initial impression is biased positive but until I try a few builds, there is no way I am going to be able to know what I'm ******** up to get my dps as low as it is. I am burning through ammo much faster than before, I mean seriously faster. I'm using a freaking slow bow too... Mana use is better as well. Some of the talents to regen mana appear to be working well. I can keep a target under full specials fire for noticeably longer than before.

Good: love the new pet abilities, my BM pet is useful in so many ways now. Mongoose bite changes are nice. Like the 10% speed increase in the BM tree just because it's kinda fun.

Bad: my shot-rotation is screwed up, speed is 1.96... steady shot is 2.0 now, but i'm planning to get a new weapon anyway, so no biggie there. Kinda not liking the way they do casting interruptions now, it's going to change the way I do things a little.

Unsure: Aspect of the Viper was my best friend when grinding/leveling/etc, not too sure what to make of it now... the decrease in damage is pretty severe, has anyone found a good way to keep mana up w/o it? Invigoration? Roar of recovery? Mp5? just switch between Viper and Hawk maybe? or do I just bite the bullet and carry around a couple of stacks of drinks? Any thoughts?

Overall though its nice to have a change of pace, the world is upside down now, and I spent some time in SW just watching all the commotion in trade chat... real funny stuff. One hunter made a macro he repeated every min or two... /2 was being bombarded with 'how do I train my pet' questions... general ruckus in guild chat as people tried to figure out what to do with talents... it was a good night for mayhem :)

Viper works great for grinding. Much better than the old viper, 1 mob killed = full mana bar and switch back to hawk.

Not so sure about damage loss in raids on this however.

PVP is another story.

I was testing out the tallstrider i had on my lowbie draenei on garona and their new skill "Dust Cloud" is nice but you cant keep it on autocast or they use it right when ya send them in to attack and it pretty much wasted cause it doesnt hit the target.

I have yet to download the patch because I just reinstalled WoW on a new computer. I am really excited for it though. I can't wait.

So far I am liking the changes. I certainly attract much less aggro than before the patch...my pet keeps their focus so much better.

One thing that does irritate me...my warpstalker no longer warps to the target. He waddles on very short legs. And when I get jumped by a second mob, he doesn't warp back after the first one dies, he waddles back. Blizz seem to have taken away the one great aspect that made me pick up a warpstalker.

you need to remember steady doesnt clip autoshot anymore. so rotations are pretty much out the window.

I noticed last night on my lowbie alliance hunter that just dinged 20 you get Aspect of the viper at 20 now.

Well, I tested on a few dummies and while the 80's were the worst, I got the results on the 70's. I discovered it was due to two separate factors. #1, the UI was not allowing Steady Shot to fire correctly so the manual spamming of it was off in dps, and the other was that I used the old 3:2 macro and the !Autoshot was messing it up.

I fixed both issues and I'll start a thread on the macro testing I did last night.

I've found that my DPS has actually increased slightly--I'm now over 800 pretty much all the time, occasionally up to 1.3k.

Things to keep in mind:

-Viper is awesome--you only need to keep it up for a few seconds.

-Kill Command kind of sucks now, but is still worth popping.

-Steady Shot no longer clips autos, this means you need to chain cast it, not spam a macro. There IS no shot rotation, unless you want to throw stings into the mix. Also uses ammo for extra damage, instead of wasting it. Yay!

-Hunter AoE is WIN. You can keep one mob targeted for autoshot and burn the rest with Volley. I'm in love...

The only problems I've seen so far are that you can't use volley while you have a mob targeted (but you van target a mob and start autoshot after =o), and Roar of Recovery has to be spam-clicked if any pet abilities are on autocast. Blargh.

I was volunteered to be the guild SV spec experiment, particularly to see how well Hunting Party works in raids. I was SV spec before and the designated EW guy, so it made sense. All I'll say is this:

Gorilladin + New Volley + Explosive Shot + Lock and Load = mass murder on a Pol Pot-like scale. OMG...just farming warp stalkers for meat, I was like one of those mages you see pulling entire schools of mobs at once and taking them all out with killer AoE. I was giggling. I depopulated the entire warp stalker/wolf/moth zone south of Shat with three combats - not the Veil, mind you, just the beasts. Having nearly full mana after all that was just gravy.

It makes me nervous for WotLK. How ******* insane are the mobs there that Bliz pumped us up so much?
