Now that the tanking gear has been reitemized, and anticipation give dodge instead of defense, I'm just curious what everyone is doing to make up the difference. I personally went from 480 defense (I use the Merc Glad Slicer) to 455 defense in my tanking gear. That's 71 defense rating that I now have to make up, and I'm not sure of the best way to do it. I currently have almost no defense gems (going purely for stamina in the past), so I can regem those with +4 def/+6 stam. I can also reenchant my bracers, cloak, and chest for defense (I'm using stam, agi, and stats currently). I'm guessing I'll have to do some combination of the two to reach the cap again, but I'd like to know what everyone else is doing.

you should have only lost 20 def. not 25.
aside from that. our survivability in general is up thanks to shield block value getting boosted, so i'm personally just swapping some stam with def for the time being while i work on getting another badge piece this weekend.

Gear was reitemized in addition to the change to Anticipation. A number of my epics traded defense rating for strength. Check your stats in game. I'm sure you lost more than you think.
I would not worry at all :))
The new stat values we have refer to the new set/type of armour that soon will be available to us very soon.
I believe it was a cunning move from blizzard to do that cause most tanks will not be ready for the new content of game..so will play more for that extra + def rating just to keep em bizzy with somthing till lich king. I logged yesterday and got 3 wispers from unkown player-tanks and asking me if i struggled for Def rating...
I noticed a drop in def rating too .. but didnt care as I had the Dabris Enigma and the Adamantine figurine in some bank bag.. saved for special ocasions...

all i done was swap one trinket and i was def capped again.
over the last 2 weeks i have got more gear and have swapped the trinket back again.

Fortunately I wasnt reliant on Anticipation to put me at or over 490, so my loss was nelegable. I just swapped out the SSO shield for Nightbane's and viola... I was back to 492ish.

Eh I'm not at 490 defense and I haven't noticed anything amiss, but I've only tanked Kara, ZA, and heroics since the patch. Maybe it is more noticeable in T6 raids. I am also uncrittable through resilience so maybe that's why I haven't noticed anything.
I've been finding myself frequently taking tank gear off and putting on pvp gear instead. The only negative I've seen is my shield slams aren't quite as high, but everything else is much higher so it's a very worthwhile tradeoff.
