With the new talents and abilities, and a wider variation of pet families, what do you think will be the new arena pet of choice? Will scorpids still be required for viper sting protection? Will having roar of recovery help with how weak aspect of the viper will be in arenas? Will bloodthirsty from ferocity pets be better than a tenacity's pet blood of the rhino for surviving?

I haven't been on beta or ptr so I haven't been able to see how these changes will effect hunters and pet choices in arenas.

Your thought?

As to appease what I did to Aethien (having him disagree with me), I shall recommend that you use a scorpid. According to what he said a while back, when I asked this question when the talent trees first came out, he said the the protection for viper would outweigh:

1) Any pet talents that you would gain access to by not having a scorpid.

2) You have teammates to get you out of melee, so things such as Tendon Rip are worse than Scorpid Poison.

I expect Rhinos and silithids will be the new PvP pets. A rhino's knockback will rule, closely followed by the silithid's netting with poison DOT. However until WotLK comes out, we'll not have rhinos. ;)

Except for the fact that they are both exotic, which means that you would have to go BM.

Yeah, so? I've yet to see a good reason not go BM with WotLK. :p

Less drain? No silence? Unless drain becomes worthless in WotLK.

I'd probably go core hound or serpent--nice anti-caster abilities, and ferocity has a few things in it that I think would be especially fun for pvp.

But then, I'm sticking with my Cunning wind serpent for raiding, so I'm a bit weird. =D

Well, BM vs. MM in PvP will continue to be a hot debate until all of the wrinkles are ironed out. I honestly don't expect any kind of realisitic consensus HERE until perhaps after Christmas, and even then, it may drag out a while. Not only is the theorycraft changing by the day at this point, but the impacts of the talents, the combinations of pet talent trees, etc. are all factoring in for many siginificant possible changes in how a hunter gets played in PvP.

I am already seeing champions of each approach but given the time needed to TRY various approaches to see what works and what doesn't, well, I certainly wouldn't be willing to make any sweeping statement of support to BM or MM or SV for PvP or any other use. We can't even nail down a realistic autoshot count on PTR/Beta by the looks of it. So the final 'release' of LK will only be step 1 in the process of vetting the theorycraft. Rinse, wash and repeat with each 'fix' and 'change' pass that LK will go through...

Rhino's look good for PvP (knockback/down is a great interrupt/stun effect) but it is just one effect of many possible pet combinations. I wouldn't doubt if we don't see Hunter/Pet builds customized for a given 'team' role. You'll probably see this more in 5v5 than down at 3 or 2v2. Rhinos are also good vision blockers, nasty for a player with a Rhino attacking them, and a big red Rhino can swallow a whole screen by the looks of it, then again, so can a 'saur. I think BM 51 with a Rhino will be a common pick for many players, PvP or otherwise. Will Raid bosses or Elites be subject to knockback? These questions and more to be answered...

Probably a rhino for the stun effect or the good 'ol scorpid for the poison for keeping the heals in check.

I vote for MM with OP scorpid and drain.

I dont see BM doing too great really.

I only play my Hunter for 2v2 Arena these days, teamed with a Resto Druid. I've currently got a Scorpid. But what hurts me most in Arena is when someone gets in my face. It's been a long time since a pair of casters has given us a challenge. So I'm looking hard at those pets who will be getting some kind of stun/hold/slow effect.

On the other hand, the new Disengage should rock.

So I guess I'll have to play it to know for sure what pet will .

What irks me the most is the change of scatter shot and readiness. These were classic talents in the MM and SV trees, respectively. So now you have to give up the 51 pt MM talent to get an iconic marks ability, which is crucial in arenas. Hell, now you can't get any 51 talent now without giving up a crucial 11 point talent (aspect mastery, aimed shot, or scatter shot). In the lvl 70 world, this is gimping us big time.

Chimera shot is gonna be a big help against casters, which are not as hard to handle as melee (rogues/warriors in particular). I haven't tried anything out yet in arenas, mainly due to the add-ons being bugged and my macros disappearing (normally happens after a big patch, hopefully they will return today like they have in the past). I hope to get in some tonight. I have decided, for the moment, chimera shot is not worth giving up scatter shot. Hence, pet choice may not be as obvious anymore, as we may need to supplement for either gimping dps or defensive utility.
