I haven't really found an easy to understand answer to this, so please, bear with me if the question is noobish.

I notice that I can give my pet talents that will boost either Stamina, or Armor.

I don't really understand the advantage either has over the other.

If I understand it correctly, Stamina boosts my pet's over-all health?
While Armor boosts, well, its armor rating.

Since I don't raid (or really REALLY not often) nor do many instances,
but do a lot of solo and duo play in PvE,
is there one of those stats with which I should be more concerned?

Most of the explanations I've found (even regarding leather vs. mail and general Hunter stats) seem to be geared (no pun intended) specifically to raiding and level 70 material (soon to be level 80).

My highest Hunter toons are in their low to mid 60's and, chances are, they will remain there for a while yet. Since I only duo or solo, levelling is a slow process. And being a casual player, I tend to like it that way.

Anyway, thank-you all for your input (and for all the past help I've received from this forum).

Once Wrath hits i will be busting my *** to get to 80. I will be adjusting my spec to include exotic pets and tweaking a few other areas of my spec. Something like this, buffs me and my pet while allowing me to do decent dps http://wotlk.wowhead.com/?talent=cVbRzggRmuzekt0e

The pet i am going to use for the grind will be a gorilla. They fixed the warstomp to a 10 sec cooldown, with BM talents you can reduce that further. This makes them an AWESOME aoe tanking pet. Most likely when i do instances along the way to 80 i will still use my gorilla. My dps way not be as uber hawt as it could be but, it will still be more than i am pumping out now.

Gorilla talents at 70 will be something like this http://wotlk.wowhead.com/?petcalc=0hdhhoM00z

There is a lot of possible information to throw into this answer but I'll make it simple because after all the numbers are crunched and it's all said and done, this is the answer you'll get anyway.

Stamina > Armor, period.

Armor rating only lowers the amount of damage taken by your pet from physical damage sources, which is basically melee strikes and that's all. Your pet has the same health as it had before and is just as vulnerable to magic damage as if you had no armor rating.

Stamina increases your pets total health, so your pet can take more hits from ANY damage source, melee, spells, poisons, ANYTHING.

Stamina is better because it's a catch all, no matter what is attacking your pet, he will be able to survive longer with more health than with more armor.

Lets put it another way. Your pet has 1000 health and an armor rating that reduces damage by 20%, and every physical attack hits your pet for 100 before the reduction, so 80 after. Your pet would only be able to take 13 hits from that damage source before it died if it received no healing. Keep in mind though that this only counts toward physical damage only, so spells would still hit for the full amount, so 13 is at BEST. If you gave your pet stamina and now your pet has 1500 health, but no damage reduction from armor, he'd be able to take 15 hits before dying, from any source, which is better than 13 from just physical, right?

It's a very simplified situation, but I think you get the idea. I hope this makes sense to you, because this is how it made sense to me but I know we're not all the same. Good Hunting.

#4REDACTED, Posted: Oct 14 2008 at 1:38 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I'm about to say the hell with my hunter and level something else. I'm half way to 68 lol and have read all i've wanted to read on this. Most people are confused on the updates as well as myself. I use a cat. I solo and occasional instance for good gear upgrades. Don't raid yet or pvp(soon to change at 70). I just want my pet to dish out and take it. Now my talents are all messed up and don't know how to fix them =( I was a BM. What should I do now marksmanship. <.< >.>!!! <O><O>
