Ok, maybe I am just a noob, but does anyone use this totem?

I mean if you are in a caster group in a raid, would you rather have the 101 spell damage bonus or 20% less threat. Now I understand that a dead caster = 0 dps, but shouldn't that be on the dps to be able to control their aggro? Mage invis, Warlok shatter, stop casting, etc.

Just curious if anyone actually uses this totem and if so, why do you use it?

Maybe I'm missing something...

It hardly even matters anymore as this totem just went byebye.

The idea USED TO BE that you'd set Tranquil Air by your mages and hunters and things so they wouldn't draw aggro from being alive and doing what they do. I suppose there must have been situations where you'd use this instead of Wrath of Air but... probably not

when I played I often used tranquil air totem for 10 mans and trash in 25 mans. On trash if you drop this totem and have salvation you can go all out every pull, shame we losing tranquil air totem and paladin salvation I hope the new improved tanking abilities work out better.

As everyone said, this totem is officially DEAD when servers come back up.

It REALLY shined in two situations:

1. 10 mans where you didn't have Salvation. This allowed one group to at least have 20% threat reduction.

2. Threat Sensitive Fights. If you ever did naxxramas where priests had to chain mind-control adds and use them to tank the boss, threat was a BIG issue. Constantly changing tanks means all the dps had to stay below their threat. Salv + Tranquil air helped greatly with it.

As someone else stated, it also allowed dps to go all out with salvation + tranquil air. If your dps outgears the tank, the extra threat reduction is more beneficial to overall dps than the extra 101 spell damage because it allows them to do 20% more damage before having to "hold back."

they are taking out salv and tranq air because they are "baking" in more aggro with tanks, all tanks are gunna generate like 25% more threat now anyways, so tanking shudnt be a problem, now when we have only 1 paladin in a group, everyone gets there buff they wanted, not salv! yay!

No tanking sill still be a pain, many tanks don't know how to play.

Anyhow lets look at it this way if a tank gains about 100 TPS seconds then his threat would become 125 TPS. If a tank generates 400 TPS then he is up to 500 TPS. You see 25% more threat doesn't necessarily make a bad tank good is my point they will still stay bad.

If memory serves me right as a ranged caster we had about 60-65% threat reduction with salv, tranquil air, Talents, and staying a distance from tank. I still hadf little to no problem stealing agro with a lucky crit, or having to wait about 30 seconds without DPS after nearly pulling agro on a boss fight.

I mean I guess it is nice they upped the percentage of threat reduction elemental gets from talents and good tanks will do just fine, but we wont have the same threat reduction capability as we did in the past.
