Patch Notes Posted... <-- Allakhazam version - no specific class notes included, but links to them are there.

Quote:
- Spellpower:
All items and effects which grant bonuses to spell damage and spell
healing are being consolidated into a single stat, Spellpower. This
stat will appear with the same values found on items which grant
“increased spell damage and healing” such as on typical Mage and
Warlock itemization.
For classes which do not heal, they should see no change in the
character sheet other than new tooltip wording.
Healing characters will see their bonus healing numbers on the
character sheet decrease, however, all healing spells have been
modified to receive more benefit from spellpower than they received
from bonus healing, with a net effect of no change to the amount
healed by their spells. Some talents have had to be rebalanced to
accommodate this change, but the amount healed will remain roughly
the same. In addition, some talents will provide only healing spell
power.

So does this mean that resto and balance could share a set of gear? I guess there are other stats that would come into play, but if a balance druid were to get some heavy "spellpower" gear it would be a decent set for a healer? I apologize and may be jumping the gun as I have never looked deeply into the Balance tree and gear recommendations for it, but I can't imagine it would be much different that a healers gear, +healing and +damage aside.

If this is the case, I may have to give moonkin a try. Can you please tell me if I am correct or explain why I am not (aside from not having researched balance gear)?

Thanks

The simple answer to your question is...yes.

There no longer is such a thing as "+healing" gear. All caster gear will be +spellpower. Basically, regardless of class, healing and spellcaster DPS specs will sare the same gear. Now there are other stats (crit, penetration, etc.) which I believe still exist. These may cause a DPS spec to choose one piece of equipment over one a healer might pick. But the answer to your basic question is still yes.

Yes they can share a set of gear, however, the changes are definitely better if you had spell damage gear than healing gear. Healing gear was generally focused on pure +healing and some mana regen (either spirit or mp5). Balance spell damage gear focused more on crit and damage. Now that we have a unified spell power, previous Balance gear will be great for healing, but the healing gear will be lacking the crit necessary to make a Balance build work well.

Actually, you won't notice that big of an improvement over your previous healing gear, of which 33% was converted to damage. Now you'll basically be at 50% of what your +healing was.

I over-slept for work today. I actually went in late. For me the patch and maintenance would have been done at 11 am. If I had not gone to work that is around when I would have woken up.

WHY DID I GO TO WORK? I even thought about calling in but didn't for some reason that I am not aware of and am regretting.

Sorry, just had to get that off my chest. I am so dumb some times.

.... So now that i've stopped foaming at the mouth and acting like the angry german kid.... I just got done looking at my gears new stats on wowarmory and looking at the possible upgrades. it seems as healer druids we'll now be fighting for gear in instances from mages locks priests and balance druids.... I'm going to go kill something now.

(edit for spelling... and oops still have my FFXI tag on here O_o)

Why are we going to be fighting with clothies? I mean we use Leather... and there's pretty much nobody that uses Spell based leather, maybe shamans but they get their mail.. <.<

Because as a resto druid i'm expected to (at least on my server) use whatever is best for my healing be it cloth or leather.

This change is amazing for all of us ferals with no space left in the bank. It means that now we won't have to keep a healing set and a boomkin set.

ah you guys your still gonna want spell hit crit and all that **** not just the spell power. so really you wont be shareing the same gear yeah a few pieces here and there but i think the boomkin is gonna be lacking some of the spell power you would use for healing and haveing crit/hit/pen on it wich wont make it good for healing seeing you could have one with out the added stats and have more spell power. so all in all i still say you will need to sets of gear if you wanna be the best you can. some inter changeable ofcourse.

Pleause use capitals and/or paragraphs.

On topic: Aside from spellpower there are, as previous posters suggested, other relevant stats either to restos or boomkins, that differ from eachother. Crit chance and hit chance come to mind. Boomkins still want to get 152 hit, which restos won't need. Then there's crit chance which will be more important for boomkins than for restos. This will make for some gear differences. Though the difference are going to be smaller than before, so you might get away with healing in boomkin gear better than before :)
What nobody mentioned yet, is that Spirit will actually be a stat in common with both talent trees now, seeing that boomkins get spell damage from it, if they take Improved Moonkin Aura.
