Affliction is the best DPS spec right now yes, falling dismally behind other classes but it's currently the best option. Jenova's wild claims aside, getting destro to compete with Affliction is currently impossible; it just doesnt work out mathematically. With Pandemic, Haunt and Shadow Embrace DoTs are doing more damage than ever; Destro is stuck with passive improvement talents and the iffy Chaos Bolt for DPS increase. Fire and Brimstone actually works out NOT worth the points investment.

I'm not sure what you're talking about, Jenova, when you refer to Destro rotations. You only have four spells to use and their usage is sharply dictated; Chaos Bolt, Immolate, Incinerate x whatever, Conflagrate. There is no more complex rotation than that, it's just plain old rinse and repeat. Chaos Bolt by the way is NOT the highest-damage single-target nuke in the game because talented it remains much poorer than the normal spells Mages have. Talents don't improve Chaos Bolt very much but they do improve Fireball etc. It's not all about the base numbers. Back in early beta when it would cut through a Paladin shield it was a great spell; now it's just another minor % increase gimmick that can get you locked out of both trees

I never said chaos bolt was the highiest. i said it was the 4th highiest. soulfire is the highiest and in terms of rotations:

immolate > chaosbolt > inc until 12 seconds into immolate, > conflag > imm > chaosbolt > inc with CoA and COR being kept up as much as possible otherwise. also don't forget that the imp is constantly dpsing. fire and brimstone is definately worth it imo purely for the conflag part. now if only blizzard would fix conflag so it's properly affected by ruin...

in terms of dps, it's been reported that afliction is the top runner with destro close behind. personally I do love destro, it's always been my favourite spec for pvp and pve and over the next week I'll gather some good data as my raids start again.
