elitists need not appyFollow

after carefuly choosing the name for this post, knowing that it would spark attention. i have 1 simple request, a guide thats not full of abreviations and % this and spec that, or atleast a point in the direction of a post that explains things to someone who may have just picked up the game today...as i have, who after reading the 1st 20 posts still knows very little about what this all mean, i understand what #/#/# spec listing represent and can see a little glimmer of why i should put points where suggested, but i dont want to be cookie cutter mage and if this game is as strong as it claims to be then i shouldnt have to fit into a A. B. or C. spec sheet to be effective. id like to be able to play around in everything, i dont care to be the best at anything, and i like small groups 5ppl max(often play solo/duo cause i like to take my time and read all the story bits and examine things closly) maybe im alone on this, but if not. if there is another out there who gets what im sayin please reply, im open to suggestions, but if you plan on flaming me then please save it...youll just be ignored

The current FAQ/Guide is more geared toward people who have played this game. Its intent is to help people out when they reach lvl 70, and maybe some additional knowledge while you level. It is a bit outdated, but what can ya do :)

As for cookie cutter - this comes up a lot. The reason there are cookie-cutter builds is that people have tried all the different combinations, and the cookie-cutter is what works best for that specific type of mage. Now, you are in luck becuase the talents are changing today. That means that cookie-cutter builds no longer exist. People will be playing around with specs for a while, so feel free to join in the fun and experiment.

For the post reference - yes, any new person would be confused. People are mostly discussing the new talents and how they effect the old talents. Without any backgrouond, you will be lost.

My recommendation - just play around and find what you like. If you have any specific questions, then relay them in this forum. But do so without trying to alienate people or act elitist (which your original post kind of does).

Specific question example - "I'm trying to sheep one mob while killing another. How the heck do you do that without getting killed? I'm a level 15 Fire Mage. My current rotation is to cast Poly on one bad guy, then Fireball the next one. However, the mob gets to me too quickly, and the hits make my next fireball take forever to cast. Then I die."

It'll include what your trying to accomplish, what level you are, and what you are currently doing that isn't quite working.

There are also a bunch of guides on different websites. For example, check out wowhead.com

To be effective, no. To be optimal, yes. In 5 mans it doesn't matter so much, but in raids, there's almost always someone else who is willing to be optimal.

to be blunt, the mage FAQ is pretty "pop-up book" compared to the other guides(see Holy Priest). it has every talent and is even editorialized. it tells you how a basic leveling build should work, but leaves it up to you.

feel free to turn on "tutorials" in the game to figure out what to do. then there is www.worldofwarcraft.com for the class basics(avoid the forums).

it would see to me that instead of putting the time in to learn what you need, you are looking for a quick fix. i cant tell if you genuinely want help or are just crying for someone to hold your hand.

thats a wonderful example of an out of context refrence to a different game (imo a better game, but we wont get into that) which is out of date anyhow now 70blm(thats black mage{a.k.a. burn specialist})i apologize to those who dont care but that person seemed as though they might wanna know what it meant
aside from that youve all been quite helpful, ive since checked out many other threads and posts from other sites aswell as this one which have given me most of the insight i was looking for and am glad for the feedback, mostly, only thing left is to toy with builds since everythings seems different since 3.~ patch and the adjustments of talents and there place on the tree has made things interesting early on being that my original plan to go into elemental percision 1st was taken away, but i digress...thank you again and see ya round(text wise anyhow)

p.s. sorry my spelling is lacking...looking back at the post riddled with red underlines ^^;
