so ya im level 40 and im trying to start aoe grinding, i specced prot, and have a sword and board with a shield spike, but all that happens when i try to aoe down like 4-5 mobs is i get raped and kill nothing, im using these spells

seal of light jugdement, seal of wisdom
holy shield

Well I have a level 43 and 53 pally (odd i know but w/e they are on diff servers) and when im AoE grinding I have Seal of light judged onto the mob and keep seal of light on me. With that I can take on about 10 mobs with the only problem being I will probably low on mana after the fight in which case ill just drink.
Also, those 4 or 5 mobs should be at most your level, non elite. Usually it's better to aoe tank a group of 8 to 10 mobs that are 2 or 3 levels lower than you.
In case any of them is a caster or a ranged dps mob, you're dead as well.

Having used a aoe grinding spec from 1-60 i shall now impart my knowledge unto thee.
First stats are very important for you but only 2 of them Stamina and Intellect, stack them regardless of all else.
Second get the best shield spike you can it counts as a vast majority of your damage.
Third use Seal of Wisdom and Judgement of Wisdom if your life gets low you can bubble and heal to full if your mana gets low your screwed.
Fourth while caster mobs and ranged mobs are difficult they can be made much much easier just by abusing Line of Sight and forcing them to come to you.
Finally using these tips the maximum number of mobs you should be able to kill should be between 8-12 your level or up to 3 higher.

Erm... considering the huge chunks of experience you get from turning in quests now, why would you AoE grind except for giggles? Slowest possible way to level, even as a Prot. Good practice for dungeons I suppose, but other than that a waste of time unless you are AoE grinding mobs you need to kill for a quest anyway.
With the new patch, use seal of light which only needs to be renewed every 2 minutes, and judge wisdom periodically, which does NOT consume seal of light. You won't ever run out of health or mana.
Using line of sight to make caster groups come to you and get within your melee range is also SUPER IMPORTANT! If you are fighting caster groups use fire resist/frost resist/shadow resist auras depending on what the caster mobs are doing to you.
If you are only fighting melee mobs, use Devo Aura and other than seal of light and judgement of wisdom, Blessing of Sanctuary and consecrate, consecrate, consectrate as they beat themselves to death on you.
If you can't kill 8-12 non-caster mobs that are the same level (and non-elite) as you and still have at least 50% of your health and mana by the end of the fight after the latest patch changes, either your equipment sucks or your talents are set up wrong, or both, but it sounds like what you are doing should be fine for the most part, especially with the new patch changes!
