My guild is a small guild and we are starting to run kara. I know we will only do the first 2 bosses, maybe the 3rd not sure. What i would like to know if you think my gear is ready to MT the first and second boss at kara.I have OT kara before but the guild was strong in DPS and a very good MT. MY guild isnt so strong with the DPS but they are decent and very few have even been to kara.So here is my link to the armory I logged off in my tank gear, thanks

You need to get your Defense up to 490 first of all maybe switch out some gems or put Def Rating on your chest.
Id say you can tank the first few easily with that gear and it always helps to have a good healer.

I guess your ok.

I have main tanked in Kara with more or less your gear the first 4 bosses... no problems.

Group composition plays also an important role.

I ve tanked with epic healing team and epic dps team and it was really quick but loss of aggro was something noticable
If the dps (Mage-warlock) got 2 or 3 criters then it was bye bye for him... ( i added +expertise + hit rating)

I ve tanked with epic healers and medium to poor dps. Aggro was very easy to control but the boss fights took longeeeeer...

So the conclusion is that if your group can hold you alive and you can keep aggro over them then your ok.

Small notice:

Pay attention to stats like hit rating /expertise ( they improve theat a lot).

Pay also attention to any stat begining with block ... value/rating .

Honestly, I've gone thru all of KZ with very little +hit and zero expertise lol. I honestly did not have any problem with threat. Not saying don't focus on it, but I think a tank that stacks dodge/stam/parry, is better than one that stacks +hit/+expertise. *note* this is T4 area we're talking. Later on when everyone is doing insane amounts of DPS, then you'll want to miss as few times as possible. Eh, I guess there's a few types of thinking when tanking: 1) Stack up on dodge/parry to save the healers from having panic attacks lol, and 2)stack up on +hit/+expertise to ensure you're grabbing as much threat as possible, meaning you're going to get hit more often... and in ZA getting hit more often will possibly wipe the group lol (bear boss, in bear form = outch).

Not really by choice, but I focused on dodge/parry/def rating. Starting off it's a very fine line on def rating, and I tried to skip +def gems to get me capped. I'd rather use the gem slot for more stam or dodge/parry.

IMO, once you get T4 gear you should not have to really worry about +def gemming. I'd look at saving badges and getting the badge pants, those will last you a long time.

All that being said I never went far out of my way to get the +hit/+expertiese. Badge wrist have them, King's Defender has it, Gruul's shield has it. I'd like to see how other people handeled the hit vs max avoidance issue. I went the avoidance route lol.

Your gear is fine for Kara.

After the patch, be sure you're still uncrittable (490 defense).

Block rating has little return for warriors. It's generally a Pali stat. At least it was before tomorrow. We'll see how gearing changes with the new talent trees, and the gear changes...

Hiya

Hit/expertise vs Avoidance ?

Is there a conflict between those 2 ?? I didnt know that...

My noob theory says :have enough hit/expertise/SBV not to lose threat over dps/healers and have enough stam/armour/dodge/parry/block to survive the incoming hits.

I belive that the Tank is the one that should get hit-more accurate hold aggro- all the time... you accomplish that with hit/expertise/SBV .
The other part is how this incoming damage is going to be manipulated : Dodge vs stamina or Armour vs Stamina or bla bla thats up to personal preference...

I dont believe there is a conflict between threat generating skills with defence skills . One can not survive without the other. Some items will may have one stat , others the other stats. There has to be a balance.

If ,as a tank, I have Zero expertise and zero Hit rating then ill probably get dodged , parried and have misses all the time and the epic dps in my team is going to get scr ...d by my loss of threat.

I only mentined Hit/expertise cause

1.They are good threat generating tanking stats
2.Two epic items offering Hit/expertise/Block value are available when exalted with shattar Offensive (easy obtained)
3.Early 70 players dont have T4 gear and probably wont aquire it( level 80 soooon) :(((
4.Early 70 players are not ready for heroics (the vast majority) ,will never get enough badges to buy stuff ( lvl 80 soon)
5.Early 70 players will probably not go to ZA ( level 80 sooon)- My guess is only kara... (unless the guild is desperate)
6.Early 70 players cant stack much dodge. With what gear? Felsteel set ?? The bold Armour ?? I know cause i have the both :((
7.Parry is not so nice stat from my limited expirience and early 70 tanks have limited access to items with this stat.
8.The dps and the healing team in Kara (my)run Where EPIC and loss of aggro WAS a fact ( not from bad rotation or poor play)
9.Gruul's shield ? Kings Defender ? Are items a:rare ,b:heroic difficulty...most people early in 70 will (probably?)not see them... ( me too)

This is my feeling so far... I m no expert though... just enjoing the game...nothing more ,nothing less

Block Rating isn't horrible come... well, come today. It's still not that great of a stat.

The main difference, actually, is that DEF is now our best overall avoidance and mitigation stat. It's barely worse than pure Dodge Rating in terms of avoidance, and the SBR it grants is actually useful now; useful enough to use it over alternatives.
