So with talents coming out next week I've been looking at the builds atm and looking for a tanking build for my pally. Kinda hard trying to pick and choose with talents since we only have 61 points atm lol. I was thinking something along these lines;

Keep in mind that the 3 points in reckoning are mainly filler points, as I don't really find a better use for them atm. Any comments/suggestions would be appreciated.

Now granted my knowledge of perfect pally talents is fairly pathetic, I've always just relied on those of you in the forums with more knowledge to tell me what good talents to take, but my one question is why you didn't take the 3 points in reckoning and go with 2 in divine shield and the other point in guardian's favor?

I'd go with this.

Here you have the most basic stuff, some points into kings and 4 points left to spend. Remember that with high avoidance, reckoning becomes worse and worse, although that might change as we lvl to 80. There is also no need to get judgements down to 8 seconds anymore as most of our abilities and spells are on a 6 or 9 second CD, so a 9 second judgement fits right in.

Personally, I'd put my last four points into Kings and Jugdements of the Just (20% slower attack speed debuff), and pick up redoubt and seals of the pure from holy while lvling. 15% damage increase is pretty much :)

When I start raiding again at 80, I'll probably respec for more mitigation, but as a starter i think the build above is ok.

Also, the reasoning for Kings is that it's what most people will want. Unless ofcourse you're running with a 2nd pally all the time :)

I think you linked me my own build by mistake :p

As for reckoning, about how much avoidance are we talking about?

for reference; http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Bleeding+Hollow&n=Monotheist

And to the other poster, the reason I didn't pick up Divine Guardian is I don't really see a opportunity for me to get a lot of use from it. Since my pally has only been 70 for about a month or so, by the time I got it geared up enough to do t5 content and up the expansion would be hitting. So right now I'm mainly doing t4 raids (kara, gruuls, mag). And frankly, there's not really too many fights that have a lot of aoe damage that would make getting that talent worth it for me. Also I'm not sure but doesn't using your bubble still drop aggro while shielded?

edit: also does judgment of the just work on raid bosses? I assumed it didn't so i didn't pick it up, however if it does then it might be worth revisiting.

Not quite sure where it gets really BAD, but as it's a proc on damage, it's something you'll want to avoid :) Damage is bad, as a general rule for progression tanking. More avoidance means less procs, so it gets less reliabale as you progess through content. Pure avoidance is generally better (dodge, miss, parry). So as you move along, you'll want less "procs" and more reliable threat/mitigation talents. Reckoning is brilliant while lvling tho, so don't ditch it until you see small reckoning procs. And yes, this is something you'll have to figure out ;) It's not hard tho :)

Yes, it's our version of the warrior thunderclap. If you plan to tank any raids, get it. It's too good to miss :)

Edit:
I'm not sure why you opted for Pursuit of Justice instead of Precision. 3% chance to hit is very good :)

I got it for the reduced spell damage since I didn't really have a problem with missing judgements/shields etc., and I figured reducing spell damage (one of our weakponts) would be a good thing. The mobility is also a nice plus, shame they're changing that as well with the patch.

I'm still a bit undecided with the 3 points in protection, I guess it just comes down to what it is we need/want individually that will decide that. I don't think i'll put them in reckoning seeing as you have a point about it getting progressively worse. I'll see what I do, thanks for the help :p
