Hey guys, looking forward to the new patch and the new talent trees that will also come. But I'm having some trouble on where to place points. This is my current build that Im looking at. I know I still have 3 points left just unsure if I going a good route.

I've always been a healer and after seeing people talk about going into ret for somethings, I've been confused on where to go. I'll pretty much be healing in dungeons and soloing most of the way to 80. So any advice if this starting spec looks good? Thanks

At 80, you'll probably want to pick up Conviction and Sanctified Seals for 8% spell crit. Your Holy side looks fine, and the rest of your points would go into Ret.

For 70:

And 80:

That's just me, though.

Are healers not going to have kings now?

It is looking like the only build with points available to get kings is ret/dps; even that might be questionable if ret is using SoV and thus needs seals of the pure.

From what I've been reading (and hearing about from people in beta) is that Kings is turning into one of those things that everyone wants, but most people can't be bothered actually speccing into because, well, there's better things to do with your talent points. I reckon it could end up being one of those things you take because it brings a benefit to the raid, even though it costs you something.

I just don't see Holy having enough points for Kings. Prot and Ret can pick it up without losing something as important as 5% spell crit.

It'll be especially easy for ret. After spending points on every PvE talent in Ret, and 5 points on Divine Strength, there's still 5 more points. No where to put them but Kings.

THanks for the reply guys. Its going to be a bummer to lose Kings, but I only use it in raids and some groups. At least the Ret pally that I usually run with will get it.

Spiritual Focus, actually.

Unless you need to HL yourself in the middle of a fight, with the shear amount of heals you can give yourself, you shouldn't need to, there's really no reason to get Spiritual Focus. Kings would probably be a better investment for PvE.

I think this is really the crux of the matter. In its new and improved (/sarcasm) form, I don't see Kings as the clear-cut choice to dump 5 talent points for what is, essentially, only the third blessing for half of the classes - which assumes three pallies in a raid to see some usage.

If you also run 5-men besides raiding 25-men, I'd contend that SF can probably help you main heal out of a pure Ret build and end up more useful than kings (assuming it is actually possible to heal a heroic with a Ret build in 3.0.2, which may be a big assumption)

Which I read as only worth considering if you're part of a pretty stable 25-men comp which does, indeed, use three pallies AND one of them Ret. For 10 men raids it's probably a waste of points.

The situation changes in 3.1 with dual specs, though, when you can switch between a holy build with SF and a ret build with Kings. That being said, we could probably debate of the wisdom of having Kings remain in the prot tree if suddenly only retadins spec into it.

Kindof ironic if you think about it. Anyone else remember when Blessing of Kings was the top tier Ret talent? >.>

LOL. I had completely forgotten about that. Looks like we're almost coming full circle on this.
