I have noticed in the next patch that they are changing spells to consume X% of your base mana. How exactly is that going to work? I mean for example a spell costs 5% of base mana and you have 100 mana. That would be 5 mana correct? If you have 1000 mana that would be 50 mana. If that is how it works what is the point of getting more mana? I must be missing something here?

That question has been asked and answered before a couple of times... Perhaps we should include it in the sticky? If it isn't already there that is.

base mana is your mana before any buffs/gear. Basically the amount of mana you have before spending any talent points and completely naked just hitting 70.

If you have a base 100 mana, and it costs 5%... it costs 5 mana. If you have 1000 mana, it costs 5 mana, 10,000 mana, 5 mana. As long as your base (number at that level is 100, or whatever).

More specifically, Blizzard has stated that this "base" mana is calculated as though your intellect were 0, based entirely on your class, race, and level

I'm reasonably sure this change was meant to make downranking spells pointless (since lower rank spells would now, essentially, cost more at higher levels) rather then actually ***** with how mana costs currently work.
