Soloing a druid at end gameFollow

I am wondering if it is worth leveling a druid to level 70 (80) with the intentions of playing solo. I do not enjoy pvp or raiding because I like to just play for fun and do not have the time to be a really committed player.

My druid is lvl 44 at this time and has never been in an instance or pvp'ed. I really enjoy just the solo play and find that a druid is great for this at my current level.

What I really would like to know is that at lvl 70 (soon to be 80) would their be enough content in WOW to keep a casual player busy while having fun or should I invest time in another job?

I really like the fact that if a druid gets bored, they can just respect to change their style of play. Feral-boomkin for example. Because of this I would only have to level just one class.

Thank you for any input in this matter.

The only problem there is that once you hit max level, there is only a limited amount of stuff you can do. If WOW was a single player game it would never have been released it just wouldn't have been good enough. It is the fact that it is multiplayer that makes it so worth playing.

I would encourage you to try a few 5 man instances as it is working as a team and meeting people that really makes the game shine. I have made many good friends in-game and it is playing with them that keeps me coming back. ANd many instances only take an hour or two to complete.

If you don't want to do any instances or PvP then no, I really don't think there is enough in the game to keep you playing for more than a month or two once you hit max level.

I will take your advice and try tanking in a few instances. I played ffxi for 4 1/2 years as a PLD. I know that this game plays differently, but I will read up on the proper ways to tank before I do this.

I just hope that it does not take several hours to find a group. One of the main reasons I quit ffxi is that you could be looking for a party for days and never find one.

This is the main reason that I wanted to know if you could solo WOW.

There is stuff you can do at 70 (dailies and what not) but honestly it would get old doing the same stuff. As long as you are feral or boomkin these things are solo'able. As I am finding out, going Resto eliminates the ability for solo play for the most part. Basically once you have mangle, then lose it, no form does the damage you want it to.

As for the party finding, try to find an active guild with a decent number of players and they should be able to get you ready to tank, help you understand what to do and give you access to parties whenever you are ready. They may have pick up raiding (a bunch of people doing dailies and then saying hey you guys want to run ____) or they may have set times, either way it would be better for you than trying to get a PUG when you want to raid. the guild would also give you the chance to know the people you are playing with and make friends if you want, if not at least know their play style so you know what to expect. And there are plenty that don't mind people that can't spend 30 hours a week playing so for your casual non-committed play style you can still find one, just be up front about your play time limits.

I would say that it isn't a question about if a druid is able to play end game, but if you are able to tolerate the solo end game content, because that isn't going to change no matter what class you are.

They are adding a lot of achievements with patch 3.0.2 (this Tuesday). If you're really interested in playing solo, you can entertain yourself seeing how many achievements you can complete.

Personally, I want this.

Greatest. Achievement. Evar.

Yeah definetly, the achievements will be a new feature to keep the casuals/solo'ers at bay with a WHOLE new set of stuff to do and achieve.
There's solo achievements and party achievements aswell of course but its definetely a boost to the mind. (and we'll see if they ever implement a way to spend the achievements points or will they just be like the Xbox live ones)

Offtopic: hey astar where did you found out that the 3.0.2 patch was going live on tuesday?

It was in a blue post I read copied to either MMO-champ or WoR, I'm looking for it now. It was about the cut-off for the current arena season, the end of raid titles like "Hand of A'dal", and no more Amani war bear.

Edit: Only thing I could find this time was on WoW Insider about season 4 ending on the 14th, and a different blue saying 3.0.2 is coming out with the end of season 4.

OP, I am in almost the EXACT same situation as you are. (only difference is that I simply do not have the time to go into instances; I do not like to drop out after 30-60 minutes because I have to go attend to my kids. PVP I do a little, but almost the same reasoning applies there).

I play a toon, enjoy it thoroughly and work my way up to level 70. But as the replies above me say: once I hit level 70.... there is just not much to do! You can complete all the quests, explore all the areas, perhaps try to gear yourself a bit, but there is not much excitement in gearing up for.... stuff you can solo already with your quest gear!

The only thing I like a lot about my druid (and rogue) specifically is that I can enter instances with improved stealth talents and just look around, enjoying the view. Now THAT I like a lot. When not doing instances (X-man or raiding) you are missing out on a lot of cool content that Blizzard programmed for us to enjoy. While in stealth there are a lot of places you can go to solo where you could otherwise not go or with a LOT of troubles.

And, after I have seen it all, I just start a new character and work that one up to 70. It is almost starting to get old now, but I will survive until the X-pac /wink.

I don't do many instances either and have just started PvP's on my 70 druid so I can understand your reluctance to join a group. I prefer the solo work too, but I do realize I have to try new things. Remember it's an online game and if you ***** up they don't know who you are. However, you may meet new friends along the way.

As far as your content concern goes, there is plenty of things to do. I entered Outlands at level 58 and dinged 70 from just Hellfire Peninsula and Zangarmarsh. That was a number of months ago and I have only recently cleared most of Nagrand and the solo quests in Shadow Moon Valley. Still tons of other zones to go to and explore. I do take "days off" from questing to go fishing and cooking to break the monotony. Mix it up, try new things, and everything will be good.

If you're going to solo at the end-game, I highly recommend PvPing first. PvP gear can be gotten almost entirely solo, and for little effort compared to a lot of other gear. You'll notice a huuuuge increase in your longevity and damage with PvP gear. Then you can try to solo whatever you want!

Achievements will keep you busy come WotLK. Other than that, there isn't a ton of content to solo unless you want to go back and solo old content (like I do)!

I played FFXI for 3 years and i understand where your coming from...WoW is not like FFXI. Especially if your a tank or healer. When i put myself in queue for something and put tank as my comment, i get groups very fast. If your on a large pop server then it makes things even easier. Same goes for healer. DPS is a little harder to get a group as, because dps are a dime a douzen, but i still didnt have much trouble on my rogue. I remember sitting in jeuno as a DRK for 2+ days without a single invite. Question is something u can do solo. Instances are more for just getting items imo. PvP is just plain fun. Alot better then Ballista, and the other crap in FFXI. Classes are actually somewhat more balanced then in FFXI. Grouping system is better. And raids and such are actually accomplishable with crappy gear (aslong as skill is good). So dont be afraid to try some instances, and a little PvP here and there. WoW is so much better then FFXI (though i do miss my galka DRK, WAR, PLD) and Taru SMN. Tauren FTW! NELF FTL!

I would like to thank all of you for your insite and support. I plan on practicing tanking techs while I solo to get a hang of it. Than I will try a few instances.

I will have to join a guild and try to make friends within it. Most of the time I just sign charters and than leave.

I am looking forward to the new X-pac. I still have a lot to see in the current game, and this will just add to things I will be able to do.

If I find that getting instances is easy and fun who knows what I will end up doing. I also like helping others while playing which means that I can help lower levels do quest, so I am sure that keeping busy will be easy.

Once again thx for all your support.

A feral druid can currently solo things that make most other equally geared classes soil themselves. We have top notch physical damage mitigation coupled with single target dps in bear form that makes warriors and paladins choke on their spicy crawdad. With WotLK, however, this is being altered somewhat...our obscene armor in bear form is getting nerfed and replaced with a talent that only offers a benefit when there are people in a group with us.

I've done group content solo that I never would have imagined possible, but keep in mind that this was largely due in part to my gear, and my gear was earned in group content. Chosing to play primarily solo will severely limit the content you have access to.
