It isn't necessarily the "best" feral tank weapon, but it is a good weapon. Some of the other options may not be attainable because of raid access, though. Check out Emmerald's lists for options.

I recently upgraded from Braxxis' Staff of Slumber to Earthwarden and really like the upgrade. Earthwarden has over 400 more dps than Braxxis', which is a really nice boost to aggro generation and for solo play.

But, really the answer to the question is: it depends. How are you approaching the Xpac? Getting from honored to exalted with CE takes some work. Is that how you want to spend the time before Xpac? Earthwarden will definitely help with leveling when the Xpac is released. So, it won't be time wasted necessarily. It just kind of depends on how think you want to spend your time before Xpac.

I am contemplating this same thing. I feel like I need to grind rep to get better gear, but to grind rep i would most likely need to switch back to feral from resto. CE has some of the best feral gear, so there would be the optimal grind. I came in long after TBC Xpac so going into the 60s was easy to see the gear upgrade. I have read that WOTLK will not be as drastic, so I expect I will just continue to farm honor, maybe advertise a +570 healer :( for some mid level OL instances to gear a little better, but not jump into trying to get exalted.

Also there are alts to play with... I suppose time is a factor too. I have only a few hours a week to play, so I don't have the time to get to exalted before the Xpac nor necessarily the drive and desire. 5 years ago I may have felt different when I had 8-10 hours a day available to spend in gaming if I chose.

In your case I would say stick with what you have, it is considered a great tanking weapon, so no need to grind mindlessly when you could have more fun elsewhere. just my $0.02
