Ok I'm being daring. Rolling with sword and board. Love the added defense. Don't care about loss in damage as long as I can live longer. Is there a leveling build for protection or is it ok to use sword and board with a arms/prot build or what. Any advice would be appreciated!!! Thanks 2h's are just to slow for me. I like attacking fast. I know that may sound retarded.

I personally levelled from 50ish as protection. I didn't go down the sword and board build but duel wielded swords with a full on protection build. Things took a little longer to die but I was almost as invincible as a Paladin. Even now as full-on Arms I kind of miss spamming devastate.

I leveled prot from lvl 10.

It's not really noticable to shield block+revenge, but if you spec into imp. revenge, you can sort of stunlock a little (espesially with concussive blow)

By about lvl 30-35 you should notice that you're able to take on 3 or 4 mobs and not really get close to dying.

My advice would be to instance a lot, since imo that's the reason to level as prot (be the best tank you can be)

Also, this next patch is going to make prot awesome, though you won't notice it as much in the lower levels. I say go for it and tinker with the spec to find what's best for you :)

also, imp. TC is about to become a prot talent last I checked, so you should be looking forward to that.

It depends on what you enjoy, though. I've levelled one priest to 64 as holy and another to 70 as disc. I just hate the shadow tree.

Pre-50 most of your talents are worthless. There's really no reason to level as prot. The talents in the other trees are much more useful in the leveling process.

If you enjoy taking on multiple mobs as an indestructible rock rather than smacking them one by one and you can manage the speed loss, why not level prot?

Should I just use the full on protection build that is in the sticky. I'm really wanting to be a great tank. Allow me to explain. My hunter ran ramparts in HFP. We got to the boss that calls aid from his 2 cronies at a certain point in the battle. Our tank kept using all he could so close to the ones we were fighting. I was to take down one while a rogue was to take down the other. Well when he pulled the aggro from the 2 we were currently fighting he freaked and ran off with all 3 plus the ones that aggro around the corner.

He brought them all back and we wiped very very quickly. Because of lack of what he called experience. All he was told to do was keep hate from the boss but let us kill the cronies.

I'm tired of seeing so many bad tanks. Then when you try to explain what they did wrong they turn the blame to someone else. He said well the healer should have healed faster using some kind of speed heal potion ROFL! >< We all cracked up laughing. Enough said. If someone could link a level prot build I would be very appreciative. I don't like using 2hr's. To slow for me. And dual wield I use on my rogue. I'm going to be a great tank with a little help from you all. :D Thanks so much. This is were I'm at right now. Look it over. Only 17 but hopefully headed in the right direction. Thanks

That's because a majority of the people on this planet can't take critique and will generally use any way they can to excuse their own mistakes. It's horrible yes, but it's life.

Now I'll stop plagueing these forums with my humanitarian 'wisdoms' for a bit and let the hardcore Warriors do their job answering your question.

Oh, one more tip; making a somewhat decent prot levelling build yourself shouldn't be too hard. Just go for abilities that add damage in the prot tree?

unless you level a ridiculous ton, the LK talents should be out.
that said, protection is much more viable as a solo levelling build, but i wouldnt reccomend it until at least level 40 when you get shield slam. realistically, tanking the instances from 1-39 is about the same w/any build, and since shield slam will be trainable you can usually use fury to tank through the mid 50s if you want. (BRD is the first instance i had to respec to tank).
fury or arms to ~55 and then respeccing to prot is probably your best bet as prot gets a lot dps wise in that range.
i preferred fury because the self healing on blood thirst adds up a lot (over a 2 hour solo session it was about 1/2 my healing, the other 1/2 was bandage and gift of naaru, so it greatly reduces downtime).

either way go with what you want to, just be ready for it to be more difficult.

Well should I just use DW fury build or..meh what ever lol Stickies usually have end game builds. Not leveling builds besides the 2h. Don't know about 2h's. Seem to slow for me.
