I posted this on the main news page, but thought I'd post it here, as well.

Blizzard poster Wryxian has posted a Death Knight Creation FAQ on the O-Boards. It can be found here: http://forums.wow-europe.com/thread.html?topicId=6104991838&sid=1

Quote:
Q. What races can be a death knight?
A. Every race has the availability of being a death knight.

Q. Who is eligible to create a death knight?
A. Players who have at least one level 55 character on a realm may create a death knight on that realm.

Q. What if I have a level 55 character on one realm but want to create a death knight on another realm to play with friends?
A. At the launch of Wrath of the Lich King, you will only be able to create a death knight on the same realm where you have an existing level 55 or higher character. In the future, we plan to allow the creation of a death knight on any realm (provided you have at least one level 55+ character).

Q. Can I create a death knight on one realm and transfer it to another realm?
A. Yes, you will be able to transfer a death knight, using either a free character move or a paid character transfer. Normal fees still apply.

Q. Can I create a death knight on one account and transfer it to a new account?
A. Death knights can be transferred with the same fees and restrictions as any other character.

Q. If I move a death knight to another realm now, can I get a refund later when the option to create a death knight anywhere is available?
A. We will not be giving refunds to players who have relocated a death knight to another realm prior to the open creation point for all realms.

Q. Can I create a death knight on the opposite faction?
A. You will be able to create a death knight on the opposite faction provided that it is on a PvE realm. The standard restrictions for character creation apply for PvP realms.

Q. Is there a limit on how many death knights I can create?
A. You will only be able to have one death knight per realm at any one time. Should you delete a death knight, you will still be able to create a new one.

A real big letdown for me.

I don't know how the general population feels about this, but a friend let me do some dailies on his account so I would have a startings funding for when my little death knight started on his server.
So...now I can either throw down 20 euros down the drain, and see dk's being able to create on each server a week after that.
Or I can wait and fall behind in the leveling's process.

Really really bummed about this :(
Ah well, back to my mage I guess.

EDIT : For some reason my spelling checker didn't caught the double real, weird :/

With the current system, I'm afraid you'll have to delete one.

wow... am i a noob. all this time, i have thought that you could only have 9 toons max. i didn't realize you could make a tenth toon and put him under the "create character" button. and i have deleted mules to make room for other toons i have made! lol it took this thread to make me realize, all this time, i could have made 10 toons :-)

Just so your hopes and dreams aren't crushed to much, the blue also said that the change was only temporary and would be reverted back to only needing 1 lvl 55 to make a DK on any server 'soon' after launch. I don't remember if it was in the same post or another.

This the part you were referring to jb? Don't mean to be doom-and-gloom, but what exactly does "in the future" really mean? With Blizz it could be in the first patch after Wrath is released, it could be 6 months down the line, could get pushed back to a year: who really knows.

"Soon", "when it's ready", all that type of language is basically saying, "We'll get to it when we get to it, so stop asking." =/

EDIT: just re-read my post and it sounded like I was telling people to stop asking, lol. Sorry if anyone took it that way :S It means "This is what Blizzard is really saying," just so no one gets offended :)

I was thinking it has something to do with population issues and people flooding pvp realms and that they would re-implement it in about the same timeframe that they allow transfers on to new servers.

That's just my random guess, however.

Super lucky! I have 55+ characters on 4 different servers, including PvP and PvE! So I can make a lot of DKs!

Sorry for those who weren't as indecisive as me :-(

I wonder....

If you only have 1 55+ character, and make a DK on that realm.

THEN, you use a paid transfer on the ORIGNAL character, will you be able to make a new DK on the new server, while keeping the old one?

Or do you think their coding "links" a DK to a "host" toon?

Once you create a character, it's created and nothing can remove it except you. You can transfer your old char off, and I believe you can also transfer the DK off. However, either would cost you extra money.

My unclear point in that post was that, if you only have 1 55+ character, but keep moving it around, can you create a new DK on each server without deleting the old one.

Yes, but there is a time limit on transferring characters. Cost + time delay on transferring = not a very good way to do it. By the time you transferred twice, you probably could have leveled a character on that server and saved yourself a ton of money. It REALLY REALLY isn't hard to level to 55.

Alternatively: Create a DK on realm 1 where your level 55 toon is, move the DK to realm 2. Create another DK on realm 1 and move it to realm 3, and so forth.

My question is does the DK replace the 55+ character or do you keep the 55+ character and just make a new DK character?

Your old character stays put, nothing happens to it.

I know it's easier than it used to be, but it's still not that easy >.> I play too much as it is.. and my highest is a 49 which took almost a month between work and play D:

this is stupid: If you can make a DK then instantly transfer if why nto be allowed to make a DK on a realm you currently do not have a 55+ char on.

Just a way for Blizz to get more money out of us.

Not that im making a DK, if i do he will be my new bank character.
