Want to increase my moonkin dpsFollow

I've got over 1k spell damage and am hit capped. But my spell crit rating is only 15% (w/o moonkin aura). However, last night when raiding, my dps was only about 650-730 or so (depending on how many crits I get). When I'm soloing or in 5-mans, I can do much more damage. So, I'm trying to figure out why I'm struggling in raids. Is it my low spell crit rating? Or my spell rotation?

My usual spell rotation on trash is moonfire and then wrath until the mob is down. For aoe (depending on situation) I'll send in my treants and cast Hurricane. For bosses, I'll cast insect swarm, moonfire, and starfire until moonfire needs refreshing. I'll also send in my treants on the boss if he's not doing any sort of aoe.

I'm not expecting to be tops of the dps charts by any means...but I don't care for being at the bottom either. Here's my armory: http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Hellscream&n=Stardream

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Well... isn't wrath more dps than starfire? I think on bosses you should always keep insect swarm and moonfire dots, and between them spam wrath. Lag also makes a big difference. Get Quartz addon, it shows real latency on your cast bar. That should also help you get higher dps.
Hope it helps...

I have the quartz add on already and have been using it. I thought that Starfire was better dpm which is useful for long boss fights?

But you want to increase your dps, so you need to look for it, not dpm. If your regen is low, maybe throw in some spirit/mp5 gems. With 60% mana regen while casting you shouldn't get oom so fast. Buy some mana pots and use them every 2 mins, very big boost in a raid.
I'm not a big expert in moonkin dps, but that's what I'd do to increase my dps.

Not saying this to be a smartass, however, if you want to increase your dps wait till the patch. The entire mechanics of the class will be changing. Spell damage and healing all rolled into one package, means that maybe what is currently healing gear will end up with more spell damage, maybe it wont. All i am saying is i would really not worry about making any huge changes now. You will be forced into big changes in a week or 2.

If my problem is gear, then I'm not going to worry about it since Wrath is coming out soon. But, I am concerned about whether or not my skills at my class need improving. After all, if I can't master my class now, who's to say I will in Wrath? Then again, I may be better at it after the changes in the next patch than now..who's to say? Either way, I just want to be able to do my best in the here and now. Make sense? :)

My boomkin gear is slightly less than yours. I have 1004 +dmg and around 14% crit(19 w/ moon aura). I have no problem doing around 750ish dps in 5-mans. I joined my guild in an SSC last night for the Mogrim(sp?) and Karathras(sp?) fights and had no problem pushing over 800 dps with my gear. Also, in those fights you have to deal with watery graves(Mog) and dodging a tornado(Kar), so I don't think you should have any problem as far as gear is concerned.

My spell rotation on trash is IS/MF/W/W/W, and on bosses it's usually IS/SF/SF/SF. Using MF on a boss can be mana-intensive, so it depends on your mana regen. If you want, you could try replacing your food buff and/or your weapon oil with a mana regen instead of spell damage. Also, lag does play an importan role in it. I can cast another SF when my casting bar is around 3/4 finished, so if you're waiting for it to be done, that could be a problem. Look into addons and stopcasting macros to fix this problem.

First thing, You're over the hit cap. So I would look heavily into replacing your cloak. If your guild does Gruuls, I know high king drops a spell damage/spell crit cloak which is awesome. Just replacing that cloak will put you exactly at the hit cap where you should be.

You need to replace your spell damage/stam gems. Getting gems that have either spell damage/spell crit or spell damage/int is even better. I'm not sure on how exactly the ratio goes but I'm pretty sure its every 72 or so intellect is 1% crit. A lot of your dps is dependant upon your crit rating. In my boom form I'm around 25-26% crit and I've done over 1000 dps in a gruuls run. I average around 900 with just IS/SF/SF/SF/IS.

It isn't your spell rotation I don't think, so work on your crit rating.

the is always a big debate about sf or wrath...

in my experience as a raiding space chicken i have found that early on (kara/ssc/tk) you will want to use mf/wrath on trash and is/sf on longer boss fights, maybe throwing in a few moonfires if you can use your own innervate. once you get to about 1200 spell dmg (and hit capped of course) you will want to switch to mf/sf on trash and mf/is/sf on bosses (mana pending)

right now with the gear i have i usually put out around 1200dps on boss fights where i am stationary most of the fight and dont get much pushback. on more hectic fights (bloodboil, archimonde) i usually put out around 900 just letting all the dots tick.

as far as gear goes, get all the badge gear you can because there isnt much besides cloth for us out there, and with a set of badge gear you can get into hyjal/bt without many problems. also i am not positive about new 3.0 changes but you might want to invest in an innervate staff.. grab the staff from MGT it has the most base spirit of any staff + gem slots. 3 +10 spirit gems and the +20 spirit enchant from zg rep and you have a completly full mana bar while casting on those longass mana intensive fights (council)
