So as the expansion gets closer i'm thinking of starting a new toon out as the expansion comes out on a pvp server. i started out on pvp servers but gave up when my toons was in the 30's due to being ganked so i'm thinking of trying one out as everyone makes the mad rush to 80 thinking i wont get ganked every time i'm not in a major city like tarren mills is where it was the worst.

so my question is wich pvp servers do ya'll prefer, for mains or get away toons?? atm i'm on anivilmar pve wich from what i hear sucks for pvp. wich is something i'm wanting to do more/ get better at.

I don't think you'll ever enjoy the PVP server aspect if you left it once. You might sneak a few extra levels while everyone rushes to 80, but even AT 80 there is huge amounts of ganking on the island. There is 8v2 roaming gank squads on the island, rogues will kill you over an adamantite deposit, raid guilds will camp a summoning stone and cause 5 group wipes before you get inside a heroic.

If you didn't like leveling on a PVP server, I don't think you'll enjoy being 70 (or 80) on one either.

This.

I got my Shaman to 70 not long before patch 2.4 went live. I had thought that with all of the excitement and realm-wide cross-faction goals to progress the IoQD release event that the world PvP action would slow down a bit. I couldn't have been more wrong. Not only were the gank squads worse than ever, our realm was one of the last to finish working through all of the phases of the Isle launch.

Never underestimate people on a PvP realm. Remember...you could be on a realm with 2000 horde players and 2000 alliance players and all it takes is 1-3 of them to render a particular leveling spot unusable.

PvP server for life. Yea it sucks getting ganked and camped while leveling, but when u hit lvl cap and get to go off and do it. Its amazingly fun. Never gets old. ive gotten pretty good at my moonfires, and can keep an alli at 1-5% for awhile (unless moonfire crits then instant death) so they cant quest or log, and if they try to run i kill them. Toying around with people is so much fun.
heh when i first started the game i started an alli on anvilmar.....it sucked got to level 10 an left. I suggest Cho'gall for a PvP server. Its a central server, but very progressed in raids, and good at PvP. Its my server and i would never leave it for any other server.

Having leveled on PvP servers almost the whole time I have played I whole heartedly believe that PvP ganking is part of lvling. If you lvl on a PvP server you WILL have that 1 time that you foiled your would be Ganker(s), and it WILL be freaking Epic. you will feel friggin uber. That's what makes it soo worth lvling PvP. I can't deny that the revenge ganking is much fun as well but less so that looking as those ?? in your opponets lvl box and seeing him QQ as you get away. :D

I'm on Dark Iron as Horde and enjoy it quite a bit. Long gone are the days from my original MMO game where you could be just close enough to the city limits to yell GUARDS and have the would be attacker rushed into ghost land to sing the ooOOOOoooOOoOOo blues. PvP is fun, pure and simple. There are times where I am just trying to get something done and think I wonder what carebear land is like, but I enjoy PvP too much. I am no good at it, but sometimes when running about it can be fun to knock some alliance toon down.

You could always look at transferring your toon as they have recently opened it up from PvE to PvP. I guess I would say try it out first and start a new toon to see if the taste is still sour. Hillsbrad and STV suck pretty bad in terms of gankage, but if you can get in a decent guild to help level, or make a high ranked friend it becomes cake. And at worst, if someone is camping you, then you just go get a drink and come back in 5. they are not likely to be waiting still.

As I leveled I did experience some gankage. It wasn't fun, but only a couple of times was it over the line camping for no reason. One of those I emoted admitting the alli ??? was superior and wondered if i could just be left to quest and they did. Another a few calls on general chat and I had some backup there to persuade the campers to move on. Its all part of the game imo. To me grinding with out having to look for the incoming red dots on the mini map would be more boring than it already is.

As for end game, I haven't noticed too much of an issue on QD with gankage. There has been some, but it is on both sides and typically not too bad. Too me it seemed like a prison yard, everyone is going about their business and then 2 people from opposing factions go for the same mob or get too close to each other and it starts a fight, then everyone jumps in and all hell breaks loose. There is soo much activity that camping is generally not an issue and revenge can typically be easy and swift. Just make sure you don't wonder too close to the guards after getting your revenge. They are not very forgiving or understanding when you arrive after helping another or getting your revenge.

Overall I would say flat out, either you like PvP or you don't. If you don't then stay out of a PvP server, if you do, then know you have to pay your dues in the leveling process and try to do the gankville's in off hours or with a big squad. I revisit the areas I used to get ganked (or watch others get ganked - stealth FTW!) to keep the circle alive.

Oh man!! That brings back some good memories! I had some great times on the Pacific & Oceania servers back in the day. I had another look again about a year ago - good lord they have destroyed that game :(

I love the PVP servers. There is nothing more satisfying as when a would be ganker dies because you are smarter.

I play on Ysondre server and the amount of ganking I received was minimal, we're still a low pop server and the ratio between the factions is still pretty even.

I wish the server was up, I want to go gank now :(

Due to friends and family, I have always been on a PVP server and will admit that there are times when it can get a little frustrating trying to level an alt. Hillsbrad and STV are always going to be PVP-central - Hence, not conducive to leveling. But I really enjoy doing the quests in those zones because there is always horde/alliance battles going on to break the monotony. If I get ganked on my alt by a level 70, I can get on my main and enjoy the upcoming fight. PVP servers can be maddening if you are singularly focusing on the PVE aspect of WoW but it can be very enjoyable if you take it in stride. In fact the other night, I was in a 12 man raid in STV trying to defend Grom'Gol...It was absolutely great with the only bad part being a corpse run :(

I think whether or not PVP servers are right for you is generally based on "first impression". If you hated it then...you will probably hate it now. Despite that, I would recommend giving it another chance - there are less "pvp-centric" zones to level in (when compared to HB and STV).

Once you level past some of the crappy areas it can be enjoyable. Simple fact is on PvP servers you may get ganked... but just the same you may get to gank. It can be a nice break from the grind and to taunt a ganker can be fun too... especially if you leave them looking all over for you and you leave the zone.

A long time back some 70s ganked a friend and camped him and my buddy started to taunt them, then left the zone without them knowing. Go back about 20 minutes later and them player was still running around looking for them. (Was emoting __Player Name__ Come out come out where ever you are... and things like that.) It was hilarious that someone would spend that much time on that.

I didn't have too many issues in STV or hillsbrad until I went with a friend. for the most part it was like, got me once, ok good job. But then if they kept on either it was because I had done something to deserve it (I am no angel) or they were just being a ****. Then I would generally emote something asking them to let me level and they usually would.
