Ghostcrawler just posted on the O-Boards that the mana cost of Fireball, Frostbolt, Frostfire Bolt, Arcane Blast, Arcane Missiles, and Arcane Explosion will be reduced. The thread can be found here: http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=10863437336&sid=2000

We think mages are still having mana problems and don't want to reduce Evocation's cooldown anymore. Nor do we want to buff mage armor too much more or using e.g. molten armor seems pointless.

Instead, we reduced the mana cost on Fireball, Frostbolt, Frostfire Bolt, Arcane Blast, Arcane Missiles, and Arcane Explosion.

I commented on the article, but I'm gonna repost it here too:

I still think one of the biggest problems(for fire mages, at least) is that Hot Streak's Insta Pyro is a full cost pyro. Either an across the board reduction in cost of that spell like the others are seeing, or making Hot Streak cause the pyro to cost less would go a very long way towards fire mage mana issues.

Its a start. Hopefully, they continue looking to fix Mages with some of the issues they have.

Not bad, if they only added pyroblast (as pold said) as an instant free (or half cost) cast that would be perfect.

As much as this might help - I think that lowering the CD on Evoc would have been nicer.

1. It would give us a lock like ability to get back mana.
1a. Lock is instant cast, but small
1b. Mage is channelled but large
2. It would have created an interesting dynamic. You'd have to stop casting on a regular basis to get mana. On boss fights you might need to LOS. You might need to burn IB Cool Downs to scrub DoT...
3. It would counter the major change of Potion Sickness.
4. It would reduce Solo downtime while still being an incombat tool that requires a bit of intelligence to use. (Simply saying spells cost less doesn't really mean I have to behave differently...)

Although I do understand that they want to make mana matter, it just seems that reducing the mana cost is a bandaid, I think that the biggest part for us would be to have mana regen at the cost of dps (similar to warlocks). One of the guys on the beta forums had a unique idea -- mana shield, while up returns mana at the cost of if you get hit you lose mana for the damage taken (as it is now).

I could see that mechanic rendering us useless once we hit our first OOM in a lot of current fights. I prefer the suggestion I read about making our armors more like auras. Free to switch between(well, you use a GCD) but with different purposes. The mage armor the person mentioned reduced damage we did, gave us some strong mana regen, and did something or other else useful.

I would prefer to see the damage increased on Pyroblast rather than making Hot Streak give the spell no mana cost in addition to its instant-cast. As an instant to shove in between rotation/nuke spam, you can simply stop using your Pyroblasts if you're having mana troubles, the exact same way that you can with Living Bomb. If you have mana problems, stop casting the Pyroes and LBs. If you don't have mana problems, use those spells.

True, but that could be potentially unbalanced in PvP.
