Discipline and the X-PacFollow

Hello,

I am currently leveling a priest. Really taking it slow but enjoying it greatly. Mainly leveling discipline with holy up to Holy Nova as the shadow style doesn't appeal to me very much.

Was wondering about the level of viability on a discipline based priest in WotLK. Was thinking something like this . I think it will level well and even be able to heal or dps regular five mans.

How successful would this style spec be at healing or DPSing heroics?

Grace seems like something I would want as a tank; my main will continue to be a bear druid. The shields and mana return on them via talents seems sexy.

Would the spec be able to be a healer/dps hybrid in 10 mans? As I have seen Kara done with 2 or 3 healers depending on gear levels and how can be found to run. I think the spec could be fun as a healer/dps hybrid in 10 mans. The mana efficiency seems to be good as does the healing and damage. The spell power change also helps its potential to be successful.

Am I deluded?

Thanks for reading my wall of text.

tl;dr version: How viable will WotLK discipline be in PvE?

You can fill either slot with a spec like that. You won't do bigtime DPS, or even enough to keep up with real DPS, but you can take a 'supportive' role in which your most casted spells are Prayer of Mending, Shadow Word: Pain, Power Word: Shield, Renew, and Mind Blast.

AKA, the same supportive role as in 5-mans. Well, no. Basically because there isn't a need for a supportive role in raids. You could be a pretty efficient healer with it, but that's it.

A healing/supportive Disc spec is actually what I'm currently playing... I can 'DPS' (support) heroics, and I can heal Kara. But that's probably as high as it gets. Either way, were I to do what you're trying to do with your spec, I'd probably do this. The thing is, even when DPS'ing, using smite and holy fire will simply not be worth it. The only holy DPS spec that somewhat works is the smiter build which thrives on Surge of Light as a core talent. Result of this is that you'll be using your shadow spells for DPS, and that it's worth picking up things like IDS and rapture. Also, Aspiration is a pure PvP talent, you aren't going to need that in PvE.

As for that... We aren't sure yet. There's a pretty interesting post down here somewhere that talks about PW:S; apperantly, with all the talent investments, it effectively becomes *free* at a specific amount of spellpower, which means it could become useful for raids. But for now, sit back and watch.
