I was looking at the Beta Druid Talent Tree and one of the first possible talents in the Balance tree "Genesis" has me a little confused. At first I thought this would be a viable telent until I payed closer attention to the wording.

Genesis
5/5
Increases the Damage and Healing done by your Periodic Damage and Healing effects by 5%.

Correct me if I am wrong but Periodic by definition means "recurring at intervals of time" so this talent would only effect the ticks of spells such as "Insect Swarm" and "Moonfire." This Talent may not be wasted too badly on Instance/Raid Moonkins looking to "Swarm, FF, Moonfire" every mob in sight or for Healkins looking to "lifebloom x3 and Rejuvenate" but other than that I think the talent is only partially useful. Especially so for PVE day to day grinding.....

I could see myself going through a respec at 80 to include it as I am a Restokin that likes to "Swarm, FF, and occasionally Moonfire every MOB in sight, and throw up ticking healz when/If needed and then Starfire when I can. Not before 80 though! ]=)

Any thoughts in regards to why I should or should not leave this talent in the dust would be appreciated.

Cheers,

Don't forget Rip, Rake and Pounce bleed, Lacerate also but definitely no room in a tank build. I have seen some cats sneak a few points into it but only 1-2.

Talent actually affects a lot of spells and abilities. 5% damage increase is decent for that high in the tree. It is just a matter of finding the points for the talent.

From a balance perspective I don't think it's worth all that much. Most of your damage output isn't coming from DoT styles of damage, it's largely from your Starfire/Wrath spell progression. I personally don't use IS that much at all if I'm raiding boomkin apart from giving a tank 2% more mitigation.

Of course, if you're going to be an IS/SF/SF/SF/IS spamming druid than yes, possibly having Genesis would be beneficial.

From the resto perspective. 5/5 Genesis is imperative. With the nerfs to lifebloom, HoT style of healing may be falling to the wayside so anything to improve on it is too useful too pass up.

my guess is maybe haveing two diff types of bal druids. one to keep FF,IS,MF up on mobs and any other debuffs we may get from tallents. The other just pure all out dps. maybe even have the debuffer also toss out spot healing instead of more dps. not sure if mf has a bonus from tallents or not seeing haven't looked at them a awhile but it would be another thing to help out with some dps insta cast. thats the only thing i could really see it needed as for balance. i havent kept up with resto but guess it would help some from the nerfs i hear about from time to time.

just my 2 cents
