So my new resto shaman goes to heal Kara. His gear is crap, but the people I'm running with are op, so I'm not too worried. On Attumen, http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=28508;source=live drops for me. A huge upgrade.

Then we down curator and I get my glove token. Very exciting; I'm a raiding noob and have never gotten a tier item before. After we wrap for the night I shammy-hearth to Shatt to find http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=29032;source=live has virtually the same stats as the cloth glove drop would when gemmed. The main advantage seems to be armor and the set bonus.

So an evil thought comes into my mind -- should I sit on this token in case I respec to grind in WotLK? I don't know whether that's the right thing to do just from a don't-ninja perspective, since I did outroll the pally in the group and the supposition was I'd be using these for healing. And if I get another piece of the set I imagine the set bonus would be worth me wearing the T4 gloves. But the difference appears so neglible. Advice?

Spirit does not equal mp5 and that is the main difference between a cloth/leather piece and a mail/plate piece (other than the armor value itself, of course).

But most of the T4 pieces are meh at best (the helm might be the only nice piece out of the bunch). If you are switching to a leveling spec when WotLK launches, then you might want to use your token for that. It should help you until ~level 75.

You also didn't say which off-spec. I know the T4 Elemental hands are "bad" on live (they have +hit, no +crit); however, come Beta, Elemental shamans are losing 9% +hit from their normal raid spec. That's a lot of +hit to find somewhere else.

I'd probably return to enhance, since I have a mage to take care of my caster needs.

Protocol-wise, though, do people think this is a poor thing to do, since there was competition for the token and I won in a roll?

Also, what if any badge purchases should a poorly-geared resto make? This guy's an alt so he hasn't been stockpiling like my main, but at this rate he'll get a few dozen before xpac.

Look at it this way, in our guild, if we ever found out a guildie rolled on a T4 piece (that's supposed to be main spec... this is with others rolling as well for a main spec), and turned it in for an off-spec, they'd be kicked from the guild.

Between the two you linked, the T4 is much better. As Calindc said, spirit does NOT equal mp5. The T4 has a lot of mp5, along with a tad more intellect and stamina. Even if you gem the other gloves with the +9 healing gems (without going to the epic ones), the bonus heals will still be higher on the T4. If you're saving up badges for whatever, the badge chestpiece is the best thus-far that you can get (Wave of Life Chestguard).

Without knowing what your gear looks like, it's hard to say what you should spend your badges on.

Nocturnal, thanks, I figured that was the case and it felt wrong to consider using it for an offset. Wrong, but....tempting.

I figure it's the wrong time to spend badges since this guy is a fairly new 70 and is going to get a lot of gear upgrades in the final weeks before xpac. I'll probably come back and ask that in more detail in a few weeks.

I'd definitely wait for 3.0. A lot of gear is "changing" in that gear that was once considered substandard for one spec is now quite good for it. Healing and Damage are all being transferred to "Spell Power" which ends up homogenizing a lot of the different gear sets. Healers will generally still prefer MP5 and DPS will still prefer +spell hit. Crit is nice for both. The only stat now that all healers will find "useless" is spell hit for pve, but otherwise there is at least some use for all other stats for both healers and dps casters.

T4 are definitely better. I consider T4 almost better than T5 for resto shaman (I passed on T5 multiple times because I wasn't even sure I'd use them). I'd use badges to get Sunwell badge upgrades since those won't be replaced until 77'ish in WotLK. Also come 80, badges will only be useful for epic gems to sell (and then I imagine there are new epic gems/recipes). The belt isn't replaced until Sunwell (T6 belt off of Brutallus). The Body isn't replaced until T6 body off of Illidan. The Legs can sort of be replaced in Hyjal (Sun-touched legs, I forget which boss drops them but I know it's one of the first 4) or by T6 off of Council in BT. The only other badge items worth getting IMHO are the mace and the feet.

Then again, you could just wait and sell gems from your badges and not worry with it. :P That's my current plan.

Bottom line: ask your GM if it's ok to use the token how you want. If this wasn't your guild, disregard.

If, as you say, the supposition was to get the healing gaunts, then you should get them. But if that's before you knew the stat difference between the two, then explain to the GM your situation. Stats are similar, you can get by off-healing with the cloth, saving the token for dps/leveling gear will help you level faster thereby helping the guild...

If the people you run with are really geared/OP as mentioned in your post, chances are they won't care what spec you get with the gloves as long as you get something that will be useful to the guild.

At this late in the game, especially with the expansion next month, I see many different variables as to whether it would be poor form to use the token the way you want.

How geared was the pally that you beat out for the token? Was this an upgrade for him? Is this toon his main? Or is he just gearing up an alt like you? Or wants the token to change specs for leveling in the expansion? Or wanted to get the S1 pvp gaunts (the T4 token can be used for S1 arena gear). Is the pally a friend? Have you asked him about it?

Anyway, if your guild ran you through, ask the GM. If it wasn't your guild, but maybe a guild you might join in the future, ask that GM. Otherwise, I'd save the token for the gear you need to level in the expansion.

I have to say T4 much better, besides that it is Kara you can Pug it weekly with ease, no reason to fight over tokens you can get them easily.

I'd say use the token for offspec purposes; the gloves from Maiden are actually a sidegrade (and can be gemmed!). But that's just me; the T4 from what I understand really shines the most with a 4pc set (and the helm is actually not bad, and an upgrade to my S2 helm - haven't really taken a look at the other three pieces, but the chest is nice, too).

Thanks for the advice all; I ended up getting the resto gloves, not even raising the issue with the guild. It's a new guild and I just joined, I didn't want to cause trouble right off the bat. I got the chest the other night and just hope I get the head token from Prince when we clear Kara again later this week. It all seems vaguely moot since this gear will be replaced soonish in WotLK.
