Pulling CastersFollow

#1 Oct 01 2008 at 2:00 AM Rating: Decent

Hi

I would like to know from an expirienced Tank what type of silencing/disrupting spells/attacks other Classes have in order
to make caster mobs drop their casting habit and come as melee towards group.

If someone could plz tell me the class, the talent requiremnts of the class and the spell name. ( duration if possible ?)

It seems that when I pull the mobs by running away from my party and make casters approach the group is not that sufficient:

Most of times a group member (Although I tell them when to engage in comabt)will attack before I come back to my group and gain aggro... and wipe. (Heroics-suck ... heheh)

Thanks

Caster and Healer mobs are the ones that you want to use you group's CC abilities on, if you have that Luxury.

Either that, or charge the caster and force the mob to fight in your face, and have the group use their interrupts on it during the fight.

Those are the only real answers I could come up with. If you're running Heroics, you should have at least 1 solid, if not 2 CC classes. Just make sure you bring the right kind of CC given the instance.

If there are multiple casters then soon after pull, have one caster targeted and as soon as his cast is about halfway done....Spell reflect. You should reflect most if not all of the other's spells as well all while giving you a nice threat boost.

line of sight (LoS) use your range and run around a corner. if they can't see you they can't cast.

Line of Sight is my favorite, but sometimes if you're unlucky the mob brings some friends lol. Just be carefull of the path between you and him.

MM Hunters can Silencing shot it, then just grab it before it gets to the hunter. Not that caster mobs really really hit hard (unless it's the ones in Magg's room lol), so a hit won't kill him. Also, Hunters can and will Feign Death, so they SHOULD not die either way.

Then there's a few other tricks, spell steal and silence. I know silence makes pretty good threat for the clothie, but a Taunt should take care of that.

I'd agree tho, cc them if possible (sap, sheep), try to avoid having a hunter trap them... We can do it, but it's such a PITA lol, and stops us from doing the Dee Pee Esssss.

I do love using Reflect tho, the spell they cast helps boost your threat to crazy levels. Example the Overcharge mobs in TK, Wooo Weeee that's some big TPS.

line of sight is my fav also, shoot back up out their range and that makes them come to you.Dont forget to tell group not to hit until you do.If 2 casters try to cc one.

If you're lucky enough you'll have a mage counterspell them to pull them to you (if it's not a marked sheep target). I sometimes do this on my mage to help out the tank after I sheep my designated target.

LOS of course.

for a while I had imp. shield bash cause I could run up, silence and pull back, but I lost that in favor of other talents. At the very worst, when there's NO los pull available, and there aren't any classes to cc or silence or anything, spell reflect is ftw.

Honestly, sometimes I put a caster as the last target anyway and tank it with spell reflect till it's either oom or we're ready to deal with it. Usually gives us a decent start on its hp too, since mobs do a lot of damage, especially on heroic.

Hi

I found this video tutorial on the net

This guys just makes some points in LOS tanking and using TC while charging (eh?) and use of The stun cone

Comment:He seems to be using charge a lot, but in the jeneral case its difficult to charge when groups of mobs are everywhere

Each pull is situational Some pulls ill range pull the caster he will stay put ill reflect tank him while we take care of the malee, by the time the malee is down the caster about killed himself or is oom and heading my way. Can be done with more then 1 caster. The pull/spell reflect/los trick pull reflect most if not all incomming spells duck around a corner... here they come. Healer and dps needs to hold off till they are on you. If you need to move him use shield bash to interupt and kite the caster back. If its a nasty caster a shield bash, conc blow, shield bash rotation pretty much does the job.

if you have a hunter in the party,

have the hunter misdirect you, then you run back around a corner out of LOS or range. Have the hunter make the pull, and the threat transfers to you, the mobs come to you, now they are lined up and near each other ready for shockwave

In addition to mages countering spells, I know that shamans can earth shock a caster; interrupting the mob's spell and silencing them from that school for a few seconds.

There are a number of ways to deal with casters while pulling:\

#1: Line of sight. Its been suggested by everyone for a reason.
#2: Basic CC- Sheep, Sap, silencing shot+trap, warlock Seduce (Only works for humanoids).
#3: Basic abilities- Warlocks Felhunter can spellock, mages can spell lock as well.
Priests can silence I believe, Hunters have Silencing shot, Shamans have earth shock.
#4: Deal with it yourself- This is my new favorite way to deal with casters:

Charge the group (Since you don't have to stance dance for charge anymore) once you hit target (Preferably the caster) use Thunderclap then Shockwave to stun the others and then shield bash to daze and silence the caster, intervene or just run back to your group and finish them all off.
