Which Class should I pick for my DK?
Undead :25 (50.0%)
Orc :25 (50.0%)
Total:50

So xpac is coming out soonish and Im having a hard time deciding which race to go with.

Orcs have quite a bit of nice racials which will be nice for extra damage. 2h axe expertise and pet buff.
My only complain about orcs is there animations. IMO , they arnt the best and get very boring.

Undead have no extra damage modifiers but do have a will of the forsaken and also have canabalise.
Undead have no flaws and I like there animations. But they dont seem as beefy as orcs.

My main rolls at 80 will be what my guild needs. But I do plan on being a DPS main roll. If my guild needs a tank
a certain night, i will respec.

So given this information what do you all think? Will the orc have a huge advantage dps wise?

I was having a long think about this one and in the end decided on Orc (I'm a hordie). Trolls and Belfs....no. Tauren, best for tanks with the extra health but not much else. Then Undead for PVP and maybe faster levelling (cannibalise)...but I'm not really a PVPer.

And since I love orcs anyway my choice will be clear - extra damage for the ghoul, better axe expertise and more AP every two minutes. Even fits in well with the lore!

This is actually more important than people think. Choosing a char of which you don't like the looks or animations will mess you over in the long run. It's like playing piano for a year or 2 while knowing in the back of your head that you'd rather be a guitar player. It may sound cliché, but if you think you prefer looking at an Undead rather than an Orc, go for it.

Aside from that, Orc DK's would look... odd.. Undead DK's will end up looking h-a-w-t! ;)

Undead

Neither one. For Horde-side, I'd pick Tauren. Alliance, I'll still go with a pink-haired gnome.

I love the oversized everything of Tauren, but for some reason they look funny on horses. To me it looks like the horses' legs are about to snap or its legs are about to break around the flamy ankle part. My baby DK is an undead, but I made a pre-made orc and both seem good to me. It really is a hard decision racials aside.

I might make another baby DK, but an orc this time to maybe help me decide.

for serious PVP a belf must be and option along with Tauren, no? Belf silence could be golden if timed well and a Tauren stun is always great. The undead racial nerf seems to much. Alliance is Gnome.

Aren't Humans getting a racial similar to gnomes a well as a WotF clone?

Voted Orc! Because 'Zug-Zug' sounds so much better coming from a DK.

That's not helping you much, is it? Smiley: tongue

For main focus on DPS, I would go either Orc or Troll.

Orcs get the extra expertise when weilding Axes, but Trolls get their racial which gives them a haste buff.

I have rolled every race in various tests. I was initially set on undead, my warlock was undead and I loved cannibalize as well as WOTFing whenever I saw another warlock beginning to cast fear at me. Nothing beat seeing the immune message cross my screen.

Tauren had health. Orcs had the free AP, but gave you the MS debuff. Blood elves were kinda cool, but mana tap sucked and nearly everything was immune to the silence. Trolls had... lol troll?

Then I actually started to play beta. I found out with death strike, I rarely, if ever, had to cannibalize. My immune message was removed. Voodoo shuffle was a good idea, but we already have death grip and some attacks you can do out of melee range (icy touch). Tauren health was nerfed. Blood elves gained the ability to use their torrent without having to mana tap (HUGE, as mana tap was 90% useless). And orc had its MS debuff removed.

So I set about rerolling horde DKs, testing out each race. Looking at everything from how often my racial came into play to how the character held and swung the weapon. I found out that I already had so much RP in most cases, the torrent was meh at best. Shuffle was nice, but since I'm not a big PvPer, it wouldn't actually come into play often, and haste (berserking) is largely worthless as a DK. Tauren health was barely above other races. Orc racial was now useful in ALL situations, you no longer had to worry about not being able to get the full health from DS while under the MS effect. You also have your ghoul damage increased, and if you're unholy, that's HUGE. Lastly, nothing owns a DK faster right now than a stunlocking rogue, or a ret paladin. The stun reduction is extremely nice in world PvP (the only kind I really do).

At this point I can't see why anyone would want to roll a Human DK unless they planned to focus entirely on PvE DPS with Swords. None of their racials have any PVP utility anymore, they really are a PvE server toon for Diplomacy and Sword/Mace DPS.

In terms of PvP, on Alliance side it has to be Gnomes. I've said it before, in a class that is hampered by mobility issues Escape Artist is the strongest tool you could wish for. On Horde side it's a bit more complicated, Tauren got nerfed but Warstomp is still nice, Orc stun-reduction is actually quite good even now, but I'm gonna cast a vote for Blood Elves.

Melee-range AoE silence at just the right time synergises very well with existing DK abilities and it returns Runic Power without that irritating tap mechanic. Don't know what else you could really ask for, it's enough to give you an extra Frost Strike in a pinch and can stop a Mage Frost-Nova'ing straight out of your Death Grip for a couple of seconds, and it's off GCD. Oh, and 2% all-round magical resistance is perfect for an 'anti-caster' tank.

Plus, Blood Elf DKs a) look bad-*** in DK gear and b) due to the recolouring of the eye glow now look like 'real' Sin'dorei Elves for the lorefetishists.

Except for the fact that humans get a free PvP trinket right? Or did you forget that.

Free PvP trinket? When did they get that?
#15 Oct 08 2008 at 6:59 AM Rating: Decent
"Every Man for Himself": Removes all movement impairing effects and all effects which cause loss of control of your character. This effect shares a cooldown with other similar effects.

It does put your PvP trinket on cooldown, but this means you can have another damage/healing/stam/etc. trinket in that slot instead. In addition this gives human a racial PvP superiority to even the undead's will of the forsaken, as WOTF only gets you out of fear, charm, and sleep, while this gets you out of everything.

Ehm... I didnt include that because to be honest, when we are talking PvP I simply assume people are wearing their epic PvP trinkets. If they arent, they need to get their *** into AV for a week, to be frank. The Human racial does not allow you to stick a stam/AP trinket in the slot because then you lose the Resilience on the trinket, which has a measurable effect on your PvP performance.

The Human racial will only be of use to people just starting a human character who havent ground out a Medallion yet (World PvP) or PvE encounters where there is a lot of CC. On a tank, the new racial is damn tasty for fights where the tank gets sleeped/stunned, as a PvE tank needs no Resilience. Like I said, it's now a PvE character choice.

And it isnt superior to WotF for the simple reason, WotF doesnt pop your trinket cooldown. Double Fear break is immeasurably superior, as the third Fear lasts no time at all and makes you immune to Fear subsequently.

And the cooldown's shorter.
#17 Oct 08 2008 at 7:19 AM Rating: Decent
Oh come on man, let's be honest here. Nearly all PvPers have been able to get to the resilience cap super easy. I don't expect lich king to be any different. Just like some people gem for resil early on then are able to regem for damage/health/etc. you may need the resil from the trinket early on, but eventually you can replace that trinket with something that is vastly superior to just giving you resil. All you'd do is do a little comparison between whether using that trinket slot for resil is best or is it better to use that slot for a PvP trinket and get your resil elsewhere.

Are you seriously saying that if you had the resil cap from all your other PvP gear, not including trinket slot, that you would STILL use that slot for the pvp trinket? I think you'd get laughed out of arena. Early on it may not have much advantage, but give it time, this will be the best PvP racial in the game, mark my word.

That depends. Sin said the cooldown is shorter. How much shorter? If it's a 2 minute vs 5 minute decision, hell yeah I'd pick the epic trinket over the racial.
#19 Oct 08 2008 at 8:19 AM Rating: Excellent
the racial is a 2 minute cooldown. Why are we talking about alliance races anyway? The OP is obviously horde.
