I dinged 70 and after a few days respeced to resto. In my hunt for gear I have pretty much decided that since no one will run anything with an under-geared healer (I understand I hate wiping) I need to do BGs and get honor gear to get started. I did the Cipher quest line in SMV and got the Staff of the Redeemer. I am not well geared and + healing is only 550. I was directed to the Merciless Gladiator's Salvation by a guild mate.

My question is since I have a blue staff with +194 healing should I save up 25.2k honor and get the one handed mace with +423 healing and open up a hand for my weak trinket Karaborian Talisman or should I focus on spending some honor on things like belts, shoes, bracers... Might give less +healing, but would have better all around gear.

I know with the expansion all points get wiped. Makes sense why. Since I am just hitting 70 and starting on the BGs (did some at 29, but a lot changes between 29 and 70 lol) I want to know where to best budget my points.

One final ? I am guessing that the new gear from the expansion will within a few levels replace anything currently available. So would it be better to get trinkets and idols that do things like Brutal Gladiator's Idol of Tenacity does - +131 final lifebloom heal? There is an 8k honor one that does +105 to final lifebloom or that for 1k arena points.

Thanks for any advice. I enjoy healing and constantly find myself in the top 3 in most BGs. I am still trying to figure out grid to use it to it's full capacity, but it helps a lot. I hope what I hear about a real rez on the expansion is true... it is a decent part of why I am staying resto. Though I do miss DPS/tanking = alt leveling time.

And yeah you can see my sweetness gear with the armory link in the sig...

You do not have to do PvP to gear up if you don't want to. Having said that, many do go the PvP way because it can be "easier". You can run BG day in and day out without lfg etc. Between AFKing and losing pre-mades it is all too easy to farm honor and even arena points.

Personally I dislike PvP and geared up without setting foot in a BG or Arena at 70. If you want to run instances you certaintly can. It is better if you start at 60 and and run them while they give you exp, but you can certaintly start at ramps now and go from there. As a lv 70 restro you are not undergeared for the lower level outland instances (you are under geared for the lv 70 ones). There is easily enough blue gear from Ramps through Seth halls to get you ready for SL and the TK instances. Then running SL, SH, Mech, Bot can get you ready for MgT and Kara.

But, assuming you are set on PvP to gear up, focus on +healing and +Mp5. That and work through the math. Decide what you need and how much it costs. Compared to the staff you have now the mace would give you +264 healing (including your off hand item) for 25k honor. Can you get close to that from a combo of other utems for ~ 25k? If so it might be worth the incremental upgrade path. If not, go for the mace.

Those idols you listed are not worth it IMO. When LB is used property you rarely let it actually bloom. You usually keep a "rolling LB" going. The best idol is simply http://www.wowhead.com/?item=27886.

Also take a look at http://druid.wikispaces.com/Healing+Gear+List for a good list of Resto gear and where to get it.

One last thing, if you do gear up through PvP, please, please, run easier instances before you try to raid or run higher level instances. Running BGs will not give you the right experiance on how to play your characture and perform the healing role in a PvE group enviroment. If PvE is not your thing that is fine don't worry about it stick to PvP. But if you want to raid in the future get practice first and BG is not the place to do that. There is nothing worse then a decient geared person that really does not know how to play their class. I have seen too much of that from people all in PvP gear.

Thanks for your input.

I've run some instances as feral, but not the healer. Healer wise I've gone to heal for some bosses (Cipher quest, brewfest BRD boss and a few others) though I have not main healed an instance.

I was planning on starting with some guild/rl friends. When I hit 70, some of us were trying and then the guild leader (friend of a friend) got the elitest attitude of you guys are undergeared we can't even do heroics forget it. So ready to go I have a prot kara ready warrior, a lock who is almost ready to go past kara (these assumed according to http://be.imba.hu.) and me.

I wouldn't think getting a group to do some instances (not even 70, just any) would be that tough, but we have had some trouble. Mainly people join look at gear and split. Not even giving a chance. So I just figure I would gear up a little in BGs and then start running some high 60 instances and work my way into 70s with friends that would be much more forgiving of a learning healer.

As a result of the above incident, it has caused us to consider searching for a different guild that would be more willing to help get gear and such. Personally my biggest issue is having a family at home, when they are off doing something I can hop on for a few. But I never know when I am going to have to be torn away from the game for whatever reason. This is the main reason I choose the BGs. I've seen people join up and be in the same BG as me for multiple runs and each time they just sit at the main spawn and do nothing. I figure if I can get in and contribute a little, but might have to get torn away then it is not THAT bad. My situation also limits me being able to invest in the time to run instances or join a raid guild.

I will check out the link you put for gear at a quick glance it seems to have good info and I can make sense of it (unlike some others I have seen).

I would recommend switching guilds. Prior to reaching the Outlands I was in a guild that was small and the officers didn't want to build it up. As my interest was in raiding I knew I needed to find another one. I saw a message in General chat one day, asked a bunch of questions then joined the guild. Best decission I made. Ran Shadow Labs for the first time with guild mates (tank), and even though I screwed up a few times they never flamed me and were understanding of my being a new level 70.

So keep an eye out in General Chat for guilds recuiting and ask a bunch of questions to be sure they are what you are looking for.

The first boss of shadow labs on regular drops the Idol of the Emerald Queen. This is by far the best healing idol you could ever ask for. It will add an 88 healing across your lifebloom ticks.

Secondly, when you gear up for healing don't hesitate to check the auction house for greens that give a ton of +healing. When you build a resto set at first it's just a pain as you can hardly heal so sometimes sacrificing stats like spirit and intellect are better when you have a green helm that gives 103 bonus healing.

Don't be afraid if you go oom after every pull on the regular instances either. You have food and water to get across that.

Another good thing is if you have the Lower City rep to be revered pick up the two Lower City Prayer Books from the quartermaster. They aren't unique and come with some very good stats, 75 bonus healing if I remember correctly.

If you are an herb/alch or know someone who is, eating some consumeables before you do your runs will also help. Golden Fishsticks give 44 healing and 20 spirit for a well fed food buff, Draenic wisdom gives int/spirit and Elixer of Healing will give you 50 more healing as well. Superior Mana Oil will give you more mana regen, I believe it's 14 mp5.

Another good thing is to optimize the group for cc/buffs. More cc will lead to you have to do less healing plus having a mage for intellect buff is nice. Personally I think your best bet would to find a guild with an elemental shaman that is starting out near your gear as well. They generally will drop Wrath of Air totem which is going to add another 101 bonus healing.

When I first started healing I was off spec healing as a boomkin and I was hovering around 1k heals in random greens and blues. After one Kara run I was in 4 shiny new epic healing pieces.

PS: Don't be afraid to wear cloth.

Thanks for your advice. I am talking to my friends about moving guilds... I may go and let them know what I find to see if they want to come as well.

As I am researching and trying to figure out the path to take to get the gear I notice that the PvP stuff seems to all be +Stam and +Int. I am guessing it doesn't have much mp5 and Spirit because most PvP battles are there and gone in a few seconds, where as i hear about some Instance bosses taking 20 minutes or more to down. This is only speculation however.

I expect that with WOTLK I will respec feral (as healbots don't seem to do too well solo grinding/questing from what I am seeing) and grind up to 80.... I wonder how long that will take.
